It had to be mutual too - which suggests we said “no future here, we know you have a move lined up so you either stay here and don’t play or move”.

Again our comms don’t look great on this - but every sentence is an opportunity to bash the club so I suppose that was always going to be the initial reaction.

Imagine the bashing the club/Levy would have gotten if they were haggling over a few million to rip up Doherty's contract and didn't get Porro over the line due to it

What’s funny is a forum of work-shirking transfer-fanatic football fans didn’t know anything about this either. Yet it’s OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS THING EVER.

Yeah it’s not great - or at least not presented well - but I’d like to consider myself well informed on this sort of stuff and had no clue about it.

Wouldn't surprise me if the club looked on here, realised that we couldn't have 9 out on loan and terminated his contract. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised with how we are run.
Agree used to make fun of West Ham for stuff like this but sounds like we’re similar to them now. Really poor planning from us.

I remember Trix saying something earlier in the window about us terminating/releasing Lucas if necessary & we have previous with Aurier so I don't find this that surprising we were willing to write Doherty off, especially as he'd only have a year left in the summer.

We're awful at shifting players at the moment.

(not saying this wasn't a monumental fuck up by us btw)

Ins don’t affect outs.

Not the 'Club'. The fans make the Club.

A select few at the top making these decisions.

Important distinction.

Yeah but it's not our job to know that.

It's our job to shirk work. :sneaky:

Oh wow, contract terminated for Doc!! ?

Very poor. Paratici should be sacked. Not enough that he's currently found guilty in Italy of cooking the books at Juve, he can't even do his job competently at Spurs. This type of issue is entirely his responsibility = structuring the squad and being the deal maker requires you to know the rules and constraints you have to work under.

Come on, It’s their job to know, not us!

Not sure that has to be spelt out.

Tottenham fans:
«Pay the extra 5 mill Levy, you cheap bastard!»

Also Tottenham fans:
«What, you terminated Doc’s contract instead of selling him for a bag of crisps!? This club is a disgrace!»

How about not jumping to conclusions, just this once…

What decision has been made here that you disagree with?

I'm frustrated with the club too. But mutually terminating an older, recovering from injury RWB who was not going to play much/at all when Conte has consistently said that he wants two players for each position is not the evidence of shambles that everyone is making it out to be. We've cleaned up RWB for the remainder of the season and going into the next. Think it's pretty clear that we hope Spence comes in to be the backup for next season and we sell Emerson.

We need communication desperately.

More than any signing I'd argue.

Is Conte staying, is Paratici likely to be staying and if not who is choosing targets ( and it better not be Levy, Cullen and co) and what's the plan?

That 'should' come out later this week i'm guessing, along with the clubs financial statement & response to the THST.

I was initially thinking, club knew what they were doing...

But the Atleti announcement - clearly stating their deal for Doherty is only till end of season....

This confirms its a fuck up by Spurs.

Anyway, Good luck Doc.

Random people on Twitter did and people who are paid to know this shit and hired by Levy didn't.

For starters, good CBs aren't in the market in Jan. Even PSG are waiting for summer to get Skriniar. Teams who have good CBs, dont want to lose them middle of season. Like striker, its one of the position difficult to fil midseason.

Also, What if the new manager wants a specific type of CBs. What if its Poch , and he wants 2 no10 (we dont have any today) & just 1 CB instead of 2CBs.... What if new manager doesnt want long ball Pickford but wants a intricate short passing GK like Unai Simon.

I just feel there are simply too many uncertainties with managerial position to go recruit key positions now. Last thing this squad needs is deadwoods because manager who got them isnt there 6 months after
Also wonder if we’re even that much of a draw would someone like Bastoni come to us when bigger clubs say even the likes of Dortmund would be in for him.
