Me too. I’m concerned that so many members of this forum took their eyes off the main issues with the Doherty announcement in that we didn’t sign a CB still and allegedly stop trying for several possible deals because we weren’t sure we could do any more loans (whether those loans would have been good for us is unknown).
Once again, if you're not a perpetually online spurs fan none of these things are really an issue, it's the January window.

Zaniolo was very meh to me and if we were going for a CB today we couldn't register him anyways, which to me seems like the main reason we would've walked away rather than a loan thing.

I would've liked a CB but I'd rather have a long term player there than a hopefully stopgap, which is always going to be difficult in Jan.

But why would Doherty agree to the contract termination? Unless he was going to get the remaining 18 months of his contract paid up front to do so.

That doesn’t seem a considered, financially viable decision to me from the clubs POV as we’d be spending the same amount on his wages but also losing a potential transfer fee.
My guess is that we’ve worked it with Atletico so that the loan fee they would’ve paid us for Doherty goes straight into his pocket instead of us paying his termination fee. And then he gets another signing bonus when he joins a different club in the summer so he will be up. There’s no way we paid off the whole 18 month contract.

My best guess is that we are close to a takeover / investment and that’s why Derek isnt spending Enic cash. Leaving more value to investors on the table.

that said I could be talking bollocks as this is his MO in general.
Im not sure how many times this needs to be said mate but ENIC dont use their own money.

Porro excellent addition albeit down to the wire. Actually like Danjuma and think he’s a major upgrade on Gil and Moura and if he works out a trade for Lo Celso possibility. Thankful we didn’t get Zaniolo and happy for Doherty to get a good club even if it was a shambles.

Aside from RWB we have 5 CBs that I struggle to believe we haven’t been able to upgrade at least one.

No idea why the complaints here are considered unwarranted by some. I guess most of us would be okay getting by with having just Danjuma and Porro in all honesty. But for goodness sake, cut out those stupid mistakes in handling Doc loan/termination and lame announcement video, even replying to Kim's tweet almost 3 fucking years ago.

Mr Levy, if you priced the business to be worth billions, then please operate it as the same level. Current standard in all departments except the manager are an utter embarrassment.

I'm angry at our lack of planning and the fact that we seem to look for opportunity but who cares about the announcement of Porro and Kim Kardashian. Literally makes no difference to the football

Well that was underwhelming to say the least and the fact that the most ‘excitement’ was caused by the supposed Doherty fuck up says all you need to know………. Just another episode that eats away at your undying love for the club and what it has become…….

The one single thing you (or anyone else for that matter) can do to improve your internet experience is to get yourself off Twitter completely. It's an abscess on the backside of humanity.

You are not wrong, but you can rather easily curate your Twitter feed into something positive based on who you follow.

I took a break from both Twitter and SC after the summer. One of them I needed to take a step back from because it was time-consuming, the other because of the excessive negativity. SC wasn't the time-consuming one.

I truly LOVE the work you and the others in charge do, and the info provided by all the wonderful ITKs, but the general toxicity on this place honestly affected my mental health.

Not trying to criticize those in charge in any way, but maybe it can be of interest to know exactly how toxic this place feel for some of us lately.

POK confirms the club knew about the 8 foreign loan restrictions so let's at least put that one to bed.
We have a huge amount of legitimate things to gripe about with the window without using one that isn't true

The same people asking for us to pay more to get players over the line quicker (‘just pay the release clause’ crew) are now also moaning about us losing money for a ‘possible’ future fee we’ve passed up by releasing Doherty.
I think you’re mistaken with this take. Most are complaining about the sheer incompetence of the club to make such a huge oversight and then be backed into a corner which has cost us money. It’s not about the loss itself.

I don't suppose any of the club's sources or journalists will say the club has made a mistake. We will never know the truth. But it doesn't look good however we see it.

He's not a club source. He's a fan who often criticises the club if you read back on his stuff.
I just hate it when fans moan about the club over things that didn't happen like ENIC taking cash out of club because it takes away from all the legitimate ammunition we have about Enic/ Levy. There's so much to criticise them about, we don't need to add in things that aren't accurate

not sure that guy is actually a trustworthy source at all. Why on earth would he know what's going on at spurs

The post mortem of this window should make for good reading including any further info on the loans that @Rob said we might have dropped based on incorrect interpretation of the loan rule.

Doherty one is slightly disappointing for me. I would think he could have still brought in atleast 5mn in the summer. And even in the squad gives another dimension to Emerson

Surely we must have got a decent loan fee too or else we’ve pissed millions up the wall?

Whoever made this administrative cock up has to be getting the sack surely, they’ve cost the club millions of pounds?

Whether or not the important people responsible for transfers in and out of the club knew the details and implications of loaning in and out a maximum of 8 players internationally in one season and how close we were to breaking that rule all along, one thing is clearly evident and it is this - By reaching this limit it is evident that we have kicked more cans down the road than there were that used to be tied on wedding cars.

Once again, if there's a rule that catches clubs out in a negative way, be it the rule around CL qualification and finishing in the top 4, what is guaranteed is that we're usually the first ones to be publicly caught out by it.

I don't recall other PL being caught by this, and going back to the subject of kicking cans down the road, having looked into this rule now a bit further it appears to be the case that the rules are going to get stricter over the next two seasons reducing to 7 and 6 respectively: https://www.skysports.com/football/...will-limit-clubs-to-six-loan-exits-per-season

What irks me a little is that rules that were clearly implemented in an attempt to stop clubs like Chelsea and Man City taking the p*ss on are ones that end up biting us on the a*se instead....

The underlying reason we have been caught by this though is the increasing tendancy by Levy to take advantage of "apparent" money saving devices of buying in so many loan to buy options which we have seen an increasing trend on, as well as not properly addressing the long term futures of players who are deemed surplus to requirements, in the way others big clubs cut their losses and move on.

Is this really saving us money in the way Levy hopes it will and making us more financially astute and better able to translate that into generating funds to invest where its needed to be invested - I.e. on the pitch... Well I'll leave that one there and let you all be the judge of that.....

Whilst I agree, I think we’ve had ITK that Levy has to approve all deals so it’s more than likely what rebrab said is correct and we haven’t lost a dime on this. It is levy we are talking about after all.
