im thinking about those RM Directors and that platform and how theyre enjoying their cornflakes today.
Whether he goes or not, the whole saga has been worth it just for that.

He will go alright, but his sale is far overshadowed (even in the press now) by the ambitious signings that we have made. We truly have overnight become a team that has genuine talent throughout the lineup and a spine that can match anything in Europe (possibly besides the one at Barca, and Bayern ). We certainly should not fear or be intimidated by anything we come up against in the PL or EL in my opinion. I could not have said that at the end of last season, even after the jaw dropping experience of seeing Bale score goal after goal.

This is (like for like) possibly the best side assembled since the double winning side under Nicholson and certainly (on paper anyway) a better one than that under Burkinshaw. If the leadership on the pitch can match that of a Mackay or a Roberts then we have an outstanding chance this season of making history. I truly do believe that a double of some sort is possible now given our strength in depth and talent that AVB has at his disposal.

Could it be that we are holding off announcing Lamela until Monday because that is the agreed trigger for Bale's sale which itself is the trigger for Madrid's sales to a variety of clubs in the Prem all of which we'd prefer to scupper ?

I get that, but maybe we should look out for numero uno in this case. That being us. Granted, some players may go to some other EPL clubs, but I want to make sure we get our business done first and foremost. If they get other players, so be it. I'm plenty confident in the squad we've put together despite what other clubs may do within our league.

Surely the trigger for selling Bale is simply...selling Bale. There's nothing stopping us from buying Lamela and then holding onto Bale until the deadline.

In any case, I believe Spain's deadline is the day before ours, so if we are going to sell Bale to them then we can't get around the possibility of them selling their cast-offs to our rivals.

Given we are probably staggering payments for both Lamela & Eriksen, these deals are not straightforward when you consider the volatility of the Euro.

That goes for Bale to Madrid as well. Any 100M Euro deal can easily change from 85m it would be today to more like 80M by the time the payment is completed if we do not 'hedge' the risk.

Theoretically Lamela and Eriksen could be registered right now and not announced until their names are published on the team sheet on Sunday. There is no rule stating a club has to inform the public when signings are made.

Perez knows it takes more effort for RM to move the stage than DL to move the goalposts
