It could be argued that a player, who has only recently broken into the national team after being ignored for a while, is talking to the audience of his country men and is trying to reassure them that he is good value for their admiration and inclusion into said national team. That being, comforting them that he is Champions league quality and worth his place in the national team that he has been chasing for a long time.

I am not saying that is the explanation of the quote, but it could be one plausible explanation. Like has been said, there is no context to the quotes as of yet. That or he could have had his head turned by a top 4 team approaching him.

He could see spurs as a club that has the potential to get in the CL. Loads of players say they want to win titles or what ever and join a top 4 club but only one of those clubs will win the title.

Di Maria being a good example. He went to Manure who had aspirations to get back in the champions league and if we/Liverpool didn't implode in March there was a damn good chance either of us would have pipped Utd to the top 4. Everyone could see we needed 2-3 key players last season who could help us maintain a top 4 fight all season... if we get them then there's no reason we can't do it next season. Whereas Southampton seriously lack squad depth and won't trouble the top 4.

It does not even have to be a lie. I think too many people take quotes from players or managers too seriously. he says he wants champions league - that's probably true, and if a CL opportunity came about, he would probably jump at the chance.

But, if the ITK is accurate, and we have bid full price, then Schneiderlin has to weigh the risk that a CL club will not make a suitable offer to Soton. Bidding full price demonstrates our ambitions. I think Spurs will give him a deadline, putting pressure on Schneiderlin to make a choice now, and not let this drag out all summer. If he really wants to wait on United or Arsenal, he won't have us as a safety net, as we will move on to our next choices.

If we fail then we fail, Spurs will always be trying for players that probably would prefer CL and will have other clubs that pay higher wages interested - sometimes it comes off and thats why we've seen some pretty amazing players at the lane in the last 10 years.

As for ITK - don't read it if it upsets you - simple. If Daniel Levy posted next with a completely honest and truthful rundown of exactly what was happening in negotiations as of this morning it would still be out of date by next week.

Why do you think I don't like it? What I struggle with is the hero worshipping that happens here, a lot of what is predicted doesn't come off yet some on here drool over the itks and get uptight when others bring a different argument to the table!

I like reading itk for the entertainment value but these people are no better or worse than the rest of us Spurs fans so stop putting them on a pedestal!

This is the ITK thread that only exists because of ITK. Yes take it with a pinch of salt, but treat them with respect and don't moan.

They will need time to source a replacement and get a deal in place.

Anyway back on to the topic as to why this thread exists....ITK....has there been any? And has JJ made any appearance since some ITK suggested we have moved a bit closer on Morgan S?

If JJ hasn't I expect it's means one of the following

He doesn't know anything about any movement for MS and therefore won't deny or confirm! Or

He thinks we are closing in and rather than confirm it, he is playing the smarter game and not getting involved yet incase an increase in confidence from Spurs fans side impacts our chances and results in the competition stepping up their game!

If JJ thinks it won't happen at all then he would have said by now!

As long as we keep our best players and bring in another striker I don't think that's an overly optimistic statement. For once we'd be building and not just reshuffling the pack.

I suggest doing as is always said, taking the ITK with a pinch of salt, and don't take this section of the site too seriously. Laugh at the transfer junkies who only turn up and post in the Transfer Windows and expect £25million signings and £50m net spends, laugh at those who take it all far too seriously and ask JJ 17 million questions a day on Twitter, laugh at those who have a shopping list of 10 players and a roster of 30, laugh at those who would be happy with one of 25 options to sign at left back because they are so desperate for a signing, and definitely laugh at those who try and argue for signing a lower PL/even Championship clubs 4th choice centre mid because they once saw him score from 25 yards back in 2009.

When it comes to posting, the artform is to post enough off-topic stuff to derail the seriousness, lighten the mood, and annoy those who are here to get their daily ITK fix... Without being dispatched over the horizon by ye olde ban-stick.
