Have my final exam of uni tomorrow (after 5 and a half years). Hoping for some serious ITK chat to keep me procrastinating.

If we went in light on CBs I guarantee we would find ourselves with 3 injured CBs the week after the TW closes!

All I know is he has some good sources - being freelancer, he is usually 80% right with his stories.
Question though is , if we want another CB, which CB goes out - surely there can't be 5 CBs in the squad

I think we need & want 5 CBs. And I think it makes perfect sense. I fully expect more ITKs about this position throughout the summer.

We don't need 5 centre backs. No other top team has 5. Chelsea won the title with 3/4.

2 players for each position should be the aim. Especially with squad restrictions in place.

TV revenue in the PL is pretty much double now to what it was and in European comps revenue is increasing, so player values are only going to increase. Add to that the fact that Paulinho wasn't pivotal to how we play, whereas a player like Schneiderlin is.

Also, Levy may feel that having Schneiderlin in the team, might give a more solid base for others such as Eriksen, Mason, Bentaleb, Alli and Lamela to perform, thus increasing their value. I think it is too single minded to just look at Schneiderlin's value for potential increase when looking at it as a value adding point of view.

This will be even more apparent for our defence, we could well see a far more coordinated back line, just look at how well Lovren has faired without MS.

In case Vertonghen, Fazio, Wimmer, Dier, Stambouli, Veljkovic and the currently still on the books Chiriches and Kaboul all get abducted by aliens?

I think we need a total of 9 defenders. 2 full backs on each side, & 5 CBs. Part of those CBs with the ability to cover for the fullbacks (as is the case already). Crying out loud, we had 2 LBs last season, and still both Bentaleb & Vertonghen had to play LB. We need 9 defenders.

All well and good saying bout having 5 but out of all them only really verts is experienced in this league and internationally who you want starting all season the others are either makeshift or young. Why not have two international defenders in verts and Toby and blood the likes of wimmer and dier in Europa, the likes of Kabul and chriches are what I would deem deadwood now anyway

Soton are well drilled with a decent midfield shield

Alderweireld individually is as slow as Fazio, but not as good in the air.

4 is ample, especially as we have Veljkovic and 2CV on the cusp.

I think we're done with defence now, other than shifting Kaboul and Chiriches

NOT ITK but I have a feeling that the Alderwield "interest" could be us using it as a lever to get MS , I.e. we'll let you have free run at Alderwield if you let us have MS.

If the Southampton Itk is correct then I am more confident that MS coud be ours

I'm just glad both signings so far and ITK have been defender centric. Yes it isnt exactly 'sexy' bu that is where our biggest improvement is required. Rose aside we were terrible at the back last season.

Back ups in other areas are nice but you don't buy a spare engine for your car if it has no wheels!

is wimmer left side CB? All others (apart from verts) are right and never do as well when need to cover verts. Toby is another. If wimmer is right then id be worried we're over-stocking on one side
