But isn't Bale only on the UK, Ireland and Middle East versions of the game? So they could pull it i guess and just launch the generic global edition with just Messi on it and maybe fine Bale!? There is never a guarantee that a player will remain, Bale has his EA deal, BT and now Lucozade, not to mention the NBC (?) and HP advertising and of course Spurs adverts. All suggests he is committed but the fact is he would have signed clauses that meant if he moved then he'd probably have to pay some of the orgs compensation yada yada yada

I can't help but agree with you here, the fact that Bale is considered one of the best players in the world, has been coveted for some time by RM, and there was an impending transfer window means that there is no way in the world that the fact a transfer was possible would not have been considered in negotiations.

Although shits would no doubt be given, there will be ways around it.

Yep, the ITK said that Levy still very much wanted Damiao & was willing to wait until the very last minutes of the TW, in hope of getting a call similar to the one he got about VdV.

Why is nobody talking about the little 'Levy lookalike' (Dharma Sheth or something like that) on SSN supposedly confirming a world record bid of £85m being on the table for over a week?

I find it amusing that people think that the fifa cover or BT agreement would stop a move of this magnitude!

Bale would lose his sponsorship that is all, happens all the time for various reasons. If he is contracted then he/Real would buy out the BT one which won't be much and Fifa will amend the cover so he is in a Madrid shirt.

They'd probably even champion the move as it means they have a Real vs Barca cover!

I'm not at all convinced the agent isn't just trying to get something approaching a "fee" included into any contract GB might sign with us this summer. New contract but if a could offers X amount, he will be allowed to agree terms etc.

I don't think DL will go for that but worth a try. Although, several people have intimated that DL and GB's agent are meant to be quite friendly so who knows really.

Net result of this speculation now is that just a few short weeks ago people were talking about £60m being the high end of a realistic price for him. We already have an absolute bare minimum now and which is significantly higher at £85m. This is doing our club zero harm right now. Only good.

That's exactly what I think. The agent is doing his job, by trying to get Bale 1 - a massive new contract (with a hefty fee for himself) and 2 - hopefully (for him) a release clause type-figure so that he can go to Real next season.

There must be tacit knowledge in the Bale camp that due to the massive sponsorship deals we've got going on this summer, with Bale plastered all over every surface in the shirt, and the expectation that he will be on tv/internet/papers constantly throughout the season in said shirt, advertising Under Armour and HP, that to leave now would surely trigger all sorts of penalty payments which the Bale camp would have to pay. This would not be the agent doing the best for this client.

Barnett doing the best for his client would be exactly what we descibe above - getting a great new deal, securing some kind of offer from Spurs that Bale could leave in the future under certain conditions, and still honouring all the images rights and sponsorship deals which have only just come into force.

Ultimately, though we may lose him next summer, will be massively in the money both this season with the sponsorship deals and when his transfer goes through next summer.

Weird, was just thinking about that transfer. Chadli was mentioned once or twice by media and ITK, then nothing, then signed. Had a feeling Vlad would be next.

That's actually a good point against the "Evil Agent" theories.
But, does he have the same guy taking care of his commercial deals and his career ? Just asking, I have no idea.
