I disagree - we all wanted a short-term pick-me-up, someone who was clearly ready to step into the 1st team tomorrow. But most of the signings in this window look like long-term prospects/players - all young enough to be playing key roles over the next few seasons if they develop properly.

I agree to an extent but did Poch (rather than levy/Franco) get the players HE wanted? That was more my point.

It's disappointing that it appears we won't be adding any apparent pace to the attack. Townsend and Lennon have pace to their games, but in the final third they are about as useful as a shit-flavored lollipop.

A player like Lacazette would have been a fantastic addition for now and for the future. It sucks we always have to look back on a window and say "ah, what could have been..."

....whereas Soldado had a similar scoring record before we signed him and this time last year, if asked, you'd say the same thing you're saying about Hernandez.

I celebrated Soldados signing at the time until I realised he was completely the wrong player for the system we had adopted.
This guys 24 and 15 mill cheaper. That's all I'm saying Nicola.

Gards hinting arsenal have signed both Welbeck and Huntelaar, and we couldn't even close 1 striker deal today

At the end of play they will strengthen. Once more while all around us strengthen, we'll stand still. Always hopeful, always let down.

No, but we're building a stadium and just finished a training ground many describe as the best in world football. We are NOT Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City. We don't have their spending power. If we want nice things we have to choose what they are. We can't have our cake and eat it like the clubs I mentioned. We're a small club by comparison, globally and financially. The sooner fans like yourself realise this and come to terms with that, the happier and less pissed off you'll be.

You see Everton? We're Everton. Now imagine Everton were to build a brand new 55,000 seater, state of the art stadium. Now imagine they built a stadium and then in the years while the work took place they spent as much money as Liverpool or Man Utd do on transfers and expensive players with huge wage demands. Do you know what would happen? They'd not be Everton anymore. They'd be Leeds. We'd be Leeds. It's that simple.

Most of us are are just saying for one window let's go out and spend so e dough on first 11 players that our manager wants. Just for once not every year juSt for once. The delusion is those people thinking that other clubs have not closed the gap to us and they have strengthened their first 11.

Hull spent some dough mucheck more than us it must be there Huge gate receipts they get eh.

I see many look at Liverpools success and point at them having the same manager for years and getting a well drilled team that way, but they also pay top dollar for the players Rodgers need to make it happen.

Even if we stick to Poch for the next few years it will be hard to get similar results when always making a profit every summer and opting for the cheap "players that can do a job" instead of the ones our manager feel are essential.

I made this exact point earlier today. The reason Rodgers has been successful, in large part, is that John Henry has given him a massive amount of money to buy players. Rodgers has spent well over 200 million pounds on bringing in players, and has had a net spend of approximately 90 million pounds since he arrived. Pochettino won't have the financial resources to bring in who he wants, unless he's willing to let top players he already has leave for big incoming transfer fees. So any comparison between what Poch faces and what Rodgers faced needs to be jettisoned, as the two clubs are very different when it comes to financial clout.

Like everyone else, he has no idea
While you're right that no one who's not involved at Spurs knows the finer points of our finances and what we do/don't spend in transfer fees and wages (at an individual level, not the overall figures published in the statutory accounts), do you think that it has been a transfer window that puts us in the best possible position to improve on last year's 6th place finish, AB (assuming, of course, that nothing else happens between now and 11pm)?

For what it's worth, I don't think the answer to that question is Yes. I'm not particularly fussed with the Schneiderlin thing, but I think that our side still lacks creativity and goals, and I don't think we've addressed that this window. I'd predict we will be 6th or 7th at the end of the season based on how things stand at the moment.

I am not one to usually moan too much (check my posts), but if we look at the sales:

Sigurdsson £10m
Sandro £10m reported
Falque £4m
Dawson £4m
Fryers £3m
Livermore £8m
Total £39m

vs. Ins:

Dier £4m
Davies £10m
Vorm £3m
Fazio £8m
Stambouli £4.7m
Yedlin £2.5m
Total £32.2m

So probably a profit of circa £7m when you throw into the mixer the small fee's for the likes of Obika!

It's kind of unacceptable considering the net profit last year also, increased TV money etc. when we have a glaring need to add creativity and goal scoring prowess and now Welbeck is off to Arsenal!

The squad at spurs is impressive, but we will finish no better than 6th/7th with this level of investment, and should not expect more.

Here's hoping we are surprised with MS before 11.00 :)

Stadium to pay for. We cant/won't spend money without balancing/ideally coming out making a profit.

I made peace with this after selling Modric and VDV and seeing dembele and Dempsey come in instead

Failing to off load Andros Townsend to not upgrade our attacking options has left me more seething than I've ever been in any window.

Add to that we've sold Sandro. Fuck me.

I think people keep forgetting that for the next two seasons, we will be playing at an even smaller stadium than WHL - if ever there was a time to over-spend a little it was this summer, because revenues are going to be even tighter in the next two summer transfer windows...
With the amount of revenue nowadays from TV deal, the capacity of stadium isn't as important as it was a few years back.. when the new stadium is built the extra seating won't be the money spinner.. The naming rights for the stadium is where the big money can be made

agree if we can't spend we can't compete I'm no happy to sit and wait for ten years for the stadium money to come good when we can be ambitious and get CL. We can't be afraid to fail. I might be wrong i haven't been a fan of the team as long as a lot of you. I became a fan because of Peter Crouch 5 years ago the year be4 we got CL so maybe I'm spoiled but i just want us to do well. and i feel that its about being in the positive all the time and never spending any money we can't get back a years or 2 from now.

there's so much emphasis placed on transfer deadline day that it's easy to forget that it's a good thing to not have to be overly active on the final day.
I remember the days of people moaning about not doing business early. We have bought 6 players evenly spread out throughout the window. He can't win.
