I can't help but feel we are taking a step back each and every year over the last few years. We have a very average looking squad (apart from Ericson, loris and vertonghen) at the moment. It's not bad squad but we are as far away from the top four as we were 8 or so years ago.

Hmm my MS expectation has been deflated. Close down the thread, there isn't anything further happening tonight.

So, after selling Sig, Holtby, etc. we are left with this.

Adebayor - capable of scoring a lot, not capable of creating said goals for himself too much. Also going to the AFCON this year I believe. Maybe 12 goals at best.

Soldado - ehh. Says a lot that he hasn't started the PL yet. I don't think he's tailor made for Poch's system. Intelligent player though - I think he can do something for us.

Chadli - good, but he isn't at the level of even Mirallas. Not really Jay Rodriguez level either. 6 or 7 if he starts.

Eriksen & Lamela - the only hope we have. Our only creativity, dribbling, penetration, set piece threat will come from them. Sigh.

Kane - honestly, this kid could be big for us. He seemingly is the only attacker we have (aside from Eriksen) capable of hitting it from distance and he's very intelligent. I don't think he's ready, but..

Paulinho - Not good enough in my mind, but hey. Maybe he just needs some time. Pleeeeeease let him get us some goals.

Townsend & Lennon - As someone who has never even been to church, I am absolutely praying, to any deity, denomination, even Glen Hoddle, that these two will somehow figure it out. Maybe Poch can put a lot of work in with them on the training ground and get them to work on their movement and passing. Maybe they might actually score a goal.

Personally, I think this is actually the weakest attack in the top 7. And the less said about our defense the better. My hope is dissipating.

Ben Arfa to Hull......I reckon he could have done a decent job for us.

The big criticisms are his attitude and work rate. I think that's a no go given that Pochettino wants his attackers working hard and he's not a good enough player for us to take a risk on him being a bad apple.

I think we will go big in January IF results show we need to.

Reactive rather than proactive. That how we roll and have done for some time.

Trust me, scratching around for signings in Jan will be even more fruitless than this window.

The failure to bring in even one single attacking player will cost is big time. We have no game changers to bring on from the bench and a massive over reliance on Ade and Eriksen.

I'm sure once one or both of them inevitably get injured the usual phrases bad luck and hindsight will be used, when in fact it will just be rank bad planning.

When Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend are going to have to play a big part in a team's attack, it's when you know you are going to have full matches bereft of creativity and quality end product. Both simply aren't good enough options. It's been obvious for awhile, but for some reason they are still here. If they aren't good enough for us, it needs to become the club's responsibility to lay it out to them that they won't get much time and they are best off taking deals at other clubs that are more their level. Instead, we will just sit through having them wasting space on the wage bill.

It's very frustrating for me because I feel as though we can just as easily give younger players these minutes and they simply wouldn't be much more poor to notice a huge difference.

Also, where is the creativity in this side when Lamela/Eriksen can't go?

Maybe this is where the youngsters come in... Poch has worked with small squads supplemented by talented, hungry youth players. We could see Kane at No.10, Mason, Ceballos etc.

We also heard earlier in the summer that Poch was most concerned with the defence, and was going to sort that out first and that's what it seems has happened. I also think we have been a bit wary of overhauling the squad again and have tried to strike a balance between signings and stability. This is going to be a season of transition, again, and that will annoy some but is what happens with a new manager 90% of the time and not everything squad-wise will be built in one window.

You've got to wonder what Levy is thinking to himself knowing that 99% of Spurs fans right now are furious with the failure to come through on this deadline day. Most likely "$ in the bank."

Another thing I want to comment on is the club's inability to get deals done, for me its incompetent.

Schneiderlin was an identified target very early, why on earth did the club not make him one our priority and first signings this summer. Losing Sandro and Holtby in the middle makes me wonder what we are really left with. By the time we went in for him Southampton were in a position where they couldn't sell him.

OK I know they have the money etc. but the speed at which Man City and Chelsea do deals is remarkable. Is it because they have the agents ear? Or because they don't really negotiate too hard. Whatever they do they get deals done.

I don't believe there are any illusions at White Hart Lane. We don't pay excessive fees or wages and we most certainly don't sell on the cheap. Amazing to see the way Arsenal fans moan still even though they are in a top new stadium and have spent a fair amount of money in the last 12 months.

Sadly I think we can look forward to another season much like last. Not enough goals and stupid mistakes costing us.

Lennon and Townsend wouldn't get in any other side in the top 8. I look forward to the same in January when we say "we've been poor but at least we can buy in this window" before the same happens again.

The most ridiculous thing about this moaning is that if we'd equalised on Saturday with Ade or Chadli's chances, and held the game to a 1-1, hell, even got beaten 3-1 in the end, there wouldn't be half as much dramatics here.

Did you all watch the game?

Was it not clear that there's a different mentality. We were physically outplayed by a Liverpool team who are playing to a system remarkably similar to ours. They had some underwhelming players in their side and a few players who are truly impressive.

We are very similar. What we don't have is the experience in our players of playing under their manager. That team that lost to Liverpool yesterday was a world away from the one that lost last year.

Anyone that thinks we're in for more of the same this year is mistaken. I saw a Spurs team that were making mistakes, but I didn't see a lack of commitment. We'll be fine this year. I saw enough against QPR to suggest we'll be blowing teams away in a few months and going toe to toe against the teams around us in a much more equal fashion.

We've a good squad. It would be nice to strengthen, but we're not in bad shape in anyway whatsoever.
I agree. I am glad I am not alone on this.

More like nothing happening because Levy fails to sign the players the manager really wanted (as usual)
