Another big disappointment about the failure to sign Moutinho, and the sale of VDV, is that it's dampened the reception of Lloris.

I think Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen were both top class signings that the club have done incredibly well to arrange. Unfortunately instead of adding to our star-studded team they - along with Bale and Sandro - pretty much constitute it.

Players on a season long loan in the Premier League cannot be recalled at all. :) Otherwise we could have recalled Caulker last year, just like City could have recalled Adebayor when we were breathing down their necks.
Cherers. Didn't know that, though it makes perfect sense when you put it like that.

Makes me cringe every time someone defends levy with the the 'do a Leeds' cliche, no one wants someone to blindly piss money away and run us into the ground don't be so thick. But at the same time I don't want someone who is clearly a business man, not a football man making the football decisions to swell the coffers for uncle Joe. His brinkmanship has become laughable, Vdv was a once in a blue moon deal not something you could count on every transfer window. We ask ourselves the same questions every morning after the night before - why did we piss around chasing unattainable pipe dreams and why did we think it would be different this time, why has he not asked himself these questions? Such a pivotal window, a new manager with a target on his back, star player wanting out, striker situation at critical I was hoping for so much more to the extent I am annoyed even though we signed lloris. More fool me though I guess

The problem is not that we failed to get Moutinho, but rather that by letting this transfer linger all summer, we couldn't even get a second option. Epic fail on Levy's part.

Yes. Very much so. But so was passing on Sahin by AVB because he was forcing Levy's hand for his one target. Fail on his part too. Lots of fools at this party. Only Doris is looking okay at the moment.

ade - ade
vdv - cd
lm - md
san - san
sp = sp
xx = gs

if we have gained anything there we r not stronger up top and certainly not in defense given yk injury.. and worse of all we appear to have kept jj yet again... that in itself is a joke

and also talk me thru this bulls...t deal we have with madrid..eh what a joke we look... what does it give us

Sacked the manager that gave us the best finishes for years and sold our best 2 players Levytime, fucking pisstake

The manager who also pissed our chances of being in the Champions League this season up the wall, but let's not get into a(nother) massive 'Arry debate. And of course, Modric had to be dragged kicking and screaming all the way to Madrid.

Can we not? Is that a hard and fast regulation? Recall clause at Christmas maybe?

I'm not arguing btw, I don't know about the technicalities.

In which case, I believe in AVB's mind his options up front are 1) Ade 2) Defoe 3) Dempsey 4) Bale. I know Bale's a last resort, but AVB's already experimented with that and I'm sure it's in his mind.

If we're playing 1 up front, that gives us sufficient cover IMO.

I'm a big fan of Kane's, so I'm sad to see him go out again in a way. But I'd rather he tear shit up at Norwich and come back to the Lane full of goals next season, than sit on the bench all year and get dejected at the lack of chances. The development curve he's on is similar to Walker's, and I'm hoping it has similar results.

Think there are even more options - for example think that if midfielders are fit that Dembele could lead line, relying on midfielders like Siggy to score goals. Although this TW wasn't perfect, think we actually have more players who score goals - and that is important.

Shelfy I think you're picking the positives as best you can but you can't ignore what we've been left with. We all expected Modric to go but not VDV too, not until recently and we thought we'd be bringing in one creative at least for these 2 top drawer players leaving. We really are quite a different team now, and honestly I don't think we're a better one. Yeah we'll do ok, yeah AVB will get the best out of them hopefully, but the hearts been ripped out of our team a bit. Every time we get so close we take a smack in the teeth and it's hugely frustrating, especially considering we've spent fuck all net this window (I think we've made a small profit).

I understand Mouts was expensive and difficult but what about contingencies? Similar but cheaper players who could've done a job in midfield on the ball? Arsenal compromised on Arteta for example but he's decent and a similar player would've helped us. In AVB's system we require a ball playing midfielder such as he had at Porto and as he wanted at Chelsea - we haven't got one unless you count Dembele but he's a very different player who likes to dribble.

I'm hoping AVB gets the best out of what he has as we all do. But whenever I see clips of the team from last season I'm gonna be a bit sad because we won't see football like it for the forseeable future and maybe not again for some time.

I get this Steve, I've been saying all along how we need brains to replace Modric, when VDV went this morning I thought we'd get Mouts done I really did. All week I've been saying how we needed to keep VDV, I think we could also have gone after Benayoun maybe too. It concerns me, I'm sat here a bit glum to be honest with you - though I remember thinking how I'd never see a player like Berba again for the forseeable future, then I got Modric and VDV soon after. We'll see what happens under AVB and we will build from there, I like that the club seems to be set up for longevity now, the new stadium, the youth set up, the new training facility.

It's just this whining neurosis of some Spurs fans that does my head in, that Levy only cares about the balance sheet - which to me is bullshit, we are a club set up for the long term future, not just Norwich tomorrow. We'll be fine.

Sounds likely, the shareholders thought they would get 15% of £30m = £4.5m but when Porto accepted £22m then shareholders would have got £3.3m - so that's quite a big percentage less for them.

Couldn't we have bunged them £1.2m in used £50 notes?

I know it's a lot of money but we made a profit this window after all...
