Wow, that is a very bold statement, if they end up selling this summer there will be riots in Southampton.

We've heard statements like this from our dear leader in the past though. Not sure it's final at all. What it does mean is that JJ was on the money again. This is obviously going to drag. Typical Spurs really, always late to the party.

Difficult to take him seriously, Saints have pretty much said they would not sell players, then they sold Lambert and Lallana..that was that until Shaw went...then they would not sell anymore right up until Lovren and Chambers went. He is blowing hot air out of his backside.

That's what I'm hoping.

Making themselves look very weak though and the problem they have, if they do sell anymore, that absolutely nothing will be taken seriously by their fans now..won't matter what they say. I suppose if the Club is getting sold that won't matter in the end though.

Could this link into the latest ITK?

Southampton board look like they are trying to hold onto their players; both hand transfer requests and refuse to play which makes the players look bad and the board look at no fault for the exodus.

Yes, very good shout.

That makes sense. They've made their public stance on the two players and then if transfer requests come it directs more blame to the players.

Or maybe it's simply because Levy has offered a packet of crisps.

BTW if you can bare to tune into Talksport, Southampton chairman is on at 5 or so. Will probably repeat what he has already said.

They've also said that they don't want to keep unhappy players. Can't see either player being keen to stay.

Plus both players only have 2 years left on their contracts. They need to sell them now to get decent money for them else they could just run down their contracts and they'll get nothing for them. The owners want the cash so they won't let that happen.

I reckon the stories that they were close to joining were very wide off the mark and Southampton leaked these stories to the press.

Then, today, their chairman says in a huge PR interview that they will be staying so it looks like they've finally said enough is enough and they are finally showing they have the balls to stand up to the big boys - when in fact we were nowhere near a deal anyway so it's all bullshit.

We still have a chance of getting them though- if they hand in transfer requests, Southampton could say their positions as the club were "untenable" and all that bollocks...

I think they are just trying to save face.

We know ourselves that its hard to keep players that don't want to be there. The club say they wont be sold, then ultimately sell them to us as expected.

They can then turn to the fans and say 'we didn't want to sell them but the players forced a move out' That way the players are vilified and the board still looks like the good guys in the fans eyes.

Whether or not the fans believe it is unknown. I don't think they will, the damage is already done.

Agree, there have been plenty of players that "were not for sale" and ended up being sold. Just a waiting game, we should be used to this by now.

I've seen this all before with Berbatov and keane. They will both be our players by the end of the window imo.

There's no doubt there will be a disparity between what Levy is offering a month before the window shuts, what he will offer later on and what they want.

Judging by past form, I'd not be surprised if Levy has put £18-20m on the table for both of them, and Southampton have quickly rebuffed him. We know that loads of work has gone into the players from us, they'll likely have indicated they want to move and Levy has put in a comically poor offer.

Time is on our side.

No doubt Koeman is trying to buy players in and getting knocked back because they know the club is selling it's future so this may be a tactic to reassure their targets, and Koeman, it's worth coming to Southampton, phoning SSN sounds like a bit of a desperate measure to prevent melt down.

Couldn't agree more with this.

It's all just one big PR exercise from Southampton, which is why this Kruger chap has been on the phone to SSN and is also scheduled to be on Talkshite later today.
