Seems someone has (or at least clams to have) made the effort to contact Bales agent:
http://theboyhotspur.com/?p=2266

@SpursNewsForum being bright, emailed Jonathan Barnett direct, in an effort to get to the truth of the matter:
@SpursNewsForum: Just trying to confirm these quotes from the Marca interview are attributed to you? Any comment on the matter?
JB: Yes I gave the interview which I hope you read the whole interview
@SpursNewsForum: Thank you for your speedy response. I haven’t read the whole interview. I must admit at first glance it didn’t seem great reading for Spurs fans, then again we know how Marca can twist people’s words.

JB:Words completely out of context.i [sic] also said we have not spoken to anyone and that gareth [sic] is a spurs player.
@SpursNewsForum: Finally, a possibility Gareth could still sign a contract extension at Spurs?

JB: Yes its [sic] a possibility.
@SpursNewsForum: Thank you for all of this Jonathan.

JB: Pleasure just don’t kill the agent.we are not so bad.
@SpursNewsForum: It’s not that I have anything against agents in general, but we have had agents disrespect the club and it’s fans before.

JB: I have never done that and my record proves that.spurs fans should recognise that and give me some credit
@SpursNewsForum: I understand. Unfortunately the media have a tendency to ignore facts and run with the biggest story.
JB: Thank you. Please let the fans know that

How does JJ's info that the wage demands are too high marry up with Barnett's assertion that no talks have taken place regarding a new contract?

Seems like the worst case scenario is we sell Bale and get a fairly eye-watering transfer fee of around £60 million. Even the trash media aren't suggesting we'd accept much less than that.

There are a lot of clubs with a lot of worst case scenarios than that.

I've seen us sell the likes of Waddle, Gascoigne, Klinsmann, Sheringham, Berbatov and Modric through the years. I've also seen our club captain and most valuable player join our most hated rivals on a free transfer. Each time the world kept turning and THFC lived to fight another day. We'll be fine either way.

This is all about there being negotiations about the contract. Bennet is turning the screw on Levy and Levy is trying to get the best deal. I don't think Bale even wants to leave, its just his agent pushing for the maximum possible for Bale (and himself).

What has happened is Levy has low-balled the initial wage offer trying to get the best deal possible, Bennet has whispered a few loose words to the media to scare Levy in to upping his offer. Nothing more. Standard tactic for an agent who is after another big pay-day.

Totally agree and said much the same a page or two back.

It's all just foreplay to those involved in contract negotiations.

I think you've got me all wrong there old bean. I wasn't insinuating it would have been good for him to leave Spurs I was pointing out that there were a lot of Spurs fans and posters on here who would have been happy to see him go. Massive amounts of expectation, him not recovering well from an injury and the whole "curse" thing meant that some fans didn't want him at WHL.

For the record I wasn't one of them....had words with two dickheads at a West Brom match on that very issue (that and the fact that his lack of stellar performances was apparently due to his nationality o_O)

No mate I totally understood you, I just couldn't believe that there were actually people who would have happily seen the lad loaned out or sold:wacky:

I imagine tunes change and dance around depending what info appears in the main stream

Don't panic folks, Lord Jetset will tweet tomorrow saying that he heard something vaguely interesting in the corridors of power and we'll all be doing loop the loop again (with or without baby oil)
The only itk I truly trust is Olderyid...I'm thinking of stalking him this year to see what mode of transport he uses to go on holiday...

No worries. TSH referred to an untruth from Barnett - I'm putting 2 and 2 together but might be wrong... Sorry on phone so can't go back for quote. :)

With all due respect to Barrett, he's bought a lot of the "agents are pricks" mentality upon himself.

I think I missed that part? I thought Barnett said it was a possibility and that they haven't spoken to anyone else?

Bale's new contract reminds me of Modric's imaginary new contract when he came back after all the Chelsea rumours. We were supposed to get an apology and a new contract haha. Wouldn't be surprised we hear nothing on a new contract for Bale

To rapturous applause, Modric came on for the pre-season friendly against Bilbao.
At the end of the game, a teammate turned to him and said "How can you leave after that?"
A tear running down his greasy cheek, Ratface turned and said "I can't..."

Remember that massive piece of bullshit?

Looking back, that was one of the funniest bits of 'ITK' of all time.

How come everybody is shitting themselves about the prospect of Bale being sold/requesting a transfer etc, yet, as far as I can tell, nobody has spoken of their concern that, if Bale is playing elsewhere next season, AVB may also reconsider his position at the club? He has openly voiced his opinion about how important it is for the club to keep hold of Bale, so perhaps we have more than just Bale to worry about?

POTL Re: Villa:
Just an FYI on this as I keep getting asked about it.
This has been ongoing for nearly 3 months. I see the press are acting like we have just made our interest known, this deal has been being negotiated for a while. Player has 12 months to go on a contract- we are not his only option, however with Neymar now confirmed and another forward to go into the club- player is available. This is not 'new' news.
If this can be concluded- Daniel will deserve a lot of personal credit.
