A purchase does not guarantee improvement.

Arsenal bought a left back because the last one they bought turned out to be a dud, Santos £5 million.

We have improved by buying Holtby so our squad has improved more than our rivals, in that respect we have stolen a march, if only a smaller one.

indeed you are right, a purchase does not guarantee improvement

but having options is important to deal with situations of lack of form from players, injuries and suspensions. Too many times i have looked at our bench and thought we have little chance to bring someone on to change a game when we need a goal.

Holtby helps a lot...........and possilbe relegates Dempsey to the becnh more so he might become that player we bring on. I just feel an extra goal scorer, putting some pressure on the JD and EA was needed, even if it was a short term solution

He really hasn't had much of a chance.
Don't disagree with you. Maybe that tells us something though? Not so much about Gyfi's ability (and I like him as a player, goal-scoring, or until this season with us he was, mids aren't all that common) but with how AVB views him and how he might fit into the way he wants us to play as a team? He's played Ade and JD together a few times and it's been ugly most times. Not sure why he hasn't given Ade with Sigs behind him a real look see but he hasn't.

Dempsey has had plenty of goes, and delivered in fairness. Again, I think this points to AVB simply not fancying Sigs though.

‘It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low'

As someone who remembers Division One football where the league title was THE thing, this really rings true.
I can't help feel irritation at the constant mantra of Top 4 as an achievement akin to a trophy. Did the home match versus Man Utd not prove that actually, 4th place is the lowest level for which this squad should be aiming? We are not far off challenging for the title and I just fear that the upper echelons of the club have forgotten that winning football matches can actually win you titles, not just qualify for CL. If we did aim high (as in higher than 4th), then perhaps the immediate need for a striker might have been more obvious and any associated 'risk' more acceptable. It would also make CL qualification more likely, rather than a reasonable doubt right now.

Looks like we did consider selling Sigg :(

And boss McDermott confirmed: "We tried to bring him back. We had spoken to Spurs and we made three offers.
"I thought at one stage we had a real chance of doing a deal, but unfortunately, we couldn't manage to do it.
That quote could just as easily mean that we have no intention of selling sigurdsson. They made 3 bids we rejected them all (including their club record - anyone know what that is btw?)
However, the reality is that everyone at Spurs is for sale at the right price because under Levy/ENIC we are a player exchange with a sideline in football.

Wise words mate and I agree. I was more commenting on the transfers though. Levy the arch negotiator has become a joke IMO.

He has done well for the club, there is no doubt about that. But I am worried for the future when avb tires of his meddling and penny pinching. Where did the money go that we bid for mounthinio in the summer?

I can't deny that it would seem that Levy likes the persona he has created, But I cant help but feel it is media created because, Fergie made an issue out of it when he got his fingers burned over Berbatov, Then the media jumped on it.

Again just my opinion I am happy (For now) for Levy to be cautious as I never want to see another Bentley, Rebrov, Raziak, etc etc at this club.

Nobody disagrees with that, but if the right player is not available at the right price, you do not buy.

Willian for instance went for £34 million, now that is over paying.

£54 million spent since AVB arrived, some penny pinching!

People who think that levy is mugging AVB off need to realise something....AVB is a very intelligent man, when he took the spurs job,he knew exactly what he was walking into,he knew we don't have the sort of money that chelshit and citeh do,and he knew that levy is not the sort of chairman to go and throw 20 million at a striker who's only ever played in south America.
It's not like the clubs around us have strengthened,a new left back is not gonna save the scums season, while we have picked up a QUALITY player in Lewis Holtby for next to nothing(relatively speaking)

What I do know is that pre Levy we were mediocre.....since he's been at the helm there has been a constant progression, year after year ,to the point where we are now competing to get in the CL year after year, which has been achieved by being bloody good at running a football club, both on and off the pitch.....but that's still not enough for some spoilt little shits, convinced that Levys currently swimming in pool of £50 notes that he saved by not buying moutinho,Leandro, etc last night.
So if last nights lack of activity has left you feeling pissed off, look at our league finishing positions 10 years prior to enic, and since......

For your info over the years I have supported levy and what he has done but now the landscape has changed and with that he cant compete and doesnt want to try which is his choice.

However im sure that a spend of around 20 million would hardly break us we needed one decent player but can't manage it thats hardly being a spoilt shit is it.

When bale goes and we start to drop off the pace lets see how you will be then cos levy will sell and take that money with it we will probably spend about a fiver of it

How are you sure of this ? Are you privy to all the financial ins and outs of the club ? No....of course youre not...your making assumptions based on guesses .....are you that dim that you think that levy personally keeps any money the club makes ??
HE IS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CLUB....seriously mate, shouldn't you be at school?

He's not going to spend money the business can't afford, and he's made it very clear that he's not going to base his spending on CL qualification. You mention Rasiak, but he was cheap and we made our money back. That's more than you can say for most of the Comolli-Ramos signings of 2008.
