Who we are paying countless millions to assess players. Lamela can either play or not. At 30 million he should be able to at least rub shoulders with players costing a quarter of what we paid for him?

Cry about it if you like but every player you bring into a new environment is a risk. There's no real way to tell. Either you accept that or you don't. No skin off my nose.

It's a strange situation really if true.

If it was me moving to a different country I'd be doing my best to find a house and learn some of the language ASAP.

Otherwise it would make the move that much harder.

I agree but also makes me wonder what the club has set up to help players settle.

Would figure we would pony up say £40k/year for a relocation specialist. As soon as players like Lamela/Soldado/Paulinho/etc land and sign they meet with the specialist who goes through all the pieces that the player may need...schools for the kids, what the favorite foods are, newspapers, do they like to go to the movies, what does the gf/wife do for a living? etc

Then you have the specialist draw up a plan for the players...here is a school for the kid, here is a shop where you can get those crisps you like, let me show you the park where you can walk your dog, we set you up with satellite and these are the channels that come in from your country, this is you club endorsed and paid English tutor for you, your wife and your kids etc.

I know clubs like Inter/AC (Lyon is also pretty well known for this) are known for having relocation people on staff who as soon as a player lands they make sure everything is set up, everything they may want is accounted for, they do all they can to remove the stress of moving abroad away from you and allow you focus on football.

My company has people who do this and none of our people cost the company £20m+, you would figure we would have a couple lined up in HR to make sure the player we are investing a ton of cash in can get their lives set up in a new country.

Suck on that. Show me one single PL club that has spent that money on homesick potential. Just one.

For that money i'd expect an odd 45mins of play whether he can speak English, Swahilli or Cockney.

Totally agree. For that we could have bought milner, veron or saved up to get torres.

Perhaps we should consider bringing in another Argentine to help him settle? If Vucinic is off to Inter then how about a cheeky bid for Icardi?

I don't think he needs that.

He needs to be enjoying his time here and that will only happen if he is given a opportunity to play which IMO and for whatever reason he clearly isn't getting.

My guess is he'll get some game time towards the end of the season, play well and prove he's better than most of our players.

this is my major gripe with spurs.. i am a firm believer we dont really have any scouts anywhere on the ground, a type of employee who has the inside track who knows about character and mentality oof players here or abroad.. we sign the fashionable players , those in some bit of form or going cheap and then get left with the shit once they get a fat signing on fee and big wage and tehn proceed to live the dream doing fuck all to earn it.

i appreciate lamela is a kid at 21 and is that type of character but at 30 million he has to show somethiong at least .. playing against a shit half arsed russian side does not count... i dont blame the lad myself as much as i blame levy and this italian chancer baldini.

He is 21 and moved to a new country that speaks a language he doesnt know. He seems to have had a few niggling injuries. ... maybe just maybe we should wait and see what he is like after he has settled and playing at 100%

id take a milner every day of week over lamela.. its gas on here no one barely hear of lamela , seen him play apart from on football manager yet they think he is the dogs bollix.. milner works his nuts off , scores some great important goals at times, very under rated player that every top team needs to wins trophies.....every team that is on top of its game and winning trophies has a milner.. we have a lamela who is homesick for italy and the easy life despite earning i would imagine 60 or 70k a week..

he might be a nice genuine lad who feels on his own and like i said i dont blame him completly , i would put more blame on baldini and levy who would have the insdie track on the type of character and mentality of the kid.. how come he made that transition from argentina to italy as opposed to this one..????? wasnt baldini basically seen him every day in training? surely he knew the type of lad he was? whats been proved is baldini hasnt a fucking clue when it comes to signing players worth huge amounts of money imvho ... yes its a gamble but when you worked with the kid before surely u would think he would know he would not be the type who is homesick and want to leave after 5 months!!

id hazard a guess on that but id get more wtf ratings haha

I'm growing increasingly tired of people saying "for 30 million he should at least show some potential".

That is potential right there. Perhaps he'll be able to show us some more if he actually gets to play.

I wonder if Lamela has noticed the riches Argentina can call on in the forward line? He would get no where near the Argentina starting 11 even if he was playing every week for Juventos

They all played, and if you think we can just throw an odd thirty million at a player in the hope he will learn a language (God forbid he actually plays) then you are deluded. It's obvious to all that Lamela isn't working out. Not his fault, but we have some people on here saying we should by another Argie to "keep him company" or employ Ardiles as a pen pal. Fucking plain stupidity.

They were all selected to play. I don't think there's any suggestion that Lamela doesn't want to play.

I posted an old scouting article on Lamela in the Lamela Thread, where we should probably all go with this discussion, before A&C starts looking for his anal beads. It's quite entertaining to read though.

Mate, I went onto an Argentina forum a couple of weeks back and a fair number of people wanted Lamela in the first XI!!!!!!!
