I think it also became clear through all the stuff he was saying at the end of the last season - play me or I have to leave. He is a maturing player and probably also a realist. He knows his route to the first team is seriously blocked. If not by Bale and Lennon, then now by the threat of new players on the wing. Couldn't blame him tbh - at least he has the bollocks to do something about it.

Or you could say 1/2 a season in the premiership with a team that got relegated is not enough to expect a starting place in a team going for 4th.

He could have tried to break through this season but to me seems like he's taking the easy route out and if he doesn't want to fight for a place then not the type of players we need.

Willian and Lamela in as Bale replacements plus others and I'll spare you you're life Levy.

One or the other and you dun goofed us.

If we bring in Lamela and Coentrao, plus a good centre back then as much as I'll be distraught about Bale having left, and as much as I'll have strongly disagreed with the decision to sell, I do think we will objectively have a better squad now than this time last year.

I was genuinely excited about the quality in our squad this year (still am in that respect), but there seems to be a lot of upheaval and disharmony entering the fray and around the club, Hudds remarks about dismantling the core- long standing players leaving-players wanting to leave, and its leaving me quite apprehensive about the start of the season. But I'm sure AVB knows what he's doing. Coys.
The only players leaving at present (who knows about Bale) are not good enough for a team that wants to finish top four. Any disharmony comes from those who are not good enough.

Can someone explain why if it was a transfer request why that's significant in terms of his bargaining position? Nothing changes they still won't be meeting our valuation and he's still under contract
It changes things purely because the Media have just been making shit up all summer. This would be actual proof he wants out, and would immediately alienate a large proportion of the fans (and possibly some players) a couple of days before our first game.

Obviously we could still go the Lolerpool route and refuse to sell, but it would burn a lot of bridges if nothing else, making the outcome look a lot more focused towards him leaving.

If it does happen i would love to know how Paulinho and AVB feel about it?

Agree with the horrible fans (similar to liverpool) and how shameless they are as a club.

But they'll be fun to watch if Bale (if he goes) Ronaldo, Ozil and Isco all click. not sure if they can play them all so one of them is going to have to miss out.

If Bale does go I worry for him slightly, it didnt work out to well for Owen or Beckham really. If he plays like he did for the first half of last season he might find himself on the bench often chatting to Luka. the competion for places is a million times better than what he is used to and the team wont be looking to play every attack through him, nor will he have the freedom to wonder were he wants to get on the ball.

no hard feelings from me if he does go, but he should be mindful. Though shit load of money will be nice:D

This, and, if it doesn't work out then what? With a transfer fee this high, he'll probably have to end up in France or Russia (or worse yet, the MLS or UAE leagues). When you move somewhere for a fee as big as he will, you're limiting yourself to only a few clubs worldwide, it's a big risk to take really

If selling Townsend in addition to the huge funds raised by selling Bale enabled us to get Willian and Lamela would anyone really complain?

Didn't think so :)

Hello

Just been told to expect some movement on the Gareth Bale situation today.

It wasn't good news.

Truckload of salt obviously.

Also the SP hold up is down to him but I can't elaborate in public yet what the hold up is.

Maybe it's not good news... Maybe, it's GREAT news!!! Oh, who am I kidding.

those players english core players were never AVB or Baldini though, that's the pleat/arnersen/redknapp era

I'm glad AVB/Baldini are molding the spurs into what they want. If they were good enough, they would stay like Walker, Lennon and Tom Carroll. Not sure what huddlestone is complaining about, the club has progressed

I so wish there was still an optimistic rating. I keep on telling myself the same thing, but do I really believe it, really? Personally I think either/or would be massive, but both? :ROFLMAO: Can't see it myself.

Edit - actually I can't see it being either of them!

Just hope Bale doesn't ever play in the Premier League again - because if he does, it won't be for us! Imagine him disappointing enough at Real that they cash in on him in a couple of years and he ends up running out against us for the likes of Man U, City or Chelsea.

That would be unbearable.

Sorry but I'm not doing the rollercoaster thing on Bale because of the latest ITK.
One person says this then the next says that.

So was A&C's post a cryptic of Di Maria? I've been out for the morning and haven't read through?

If so it is interesting as JJ said before we would be excited by players being brought in and seems to be a fan of Di Maria... Then today he posts about their being potential movement on the Bale deal.

Agreed, but we are a day away from the start of the season and things are shrouded in uncertainty without a settled squad or a core who know each other and or have played with each other much. I'm not doubting the quality, but I am doubting whether our squad is mentally prepared given what is going on or that the new players will have bedded into a team that is being dismantled and rebuilt on the eve of the start of the league.

We would still need back-up for these players, which you would think Townsend would be the ideal candidate...

I would think if the manager indicated he would get chances then he would stay. But when you see shit****s like Lennon put in no effort at all pre-season, get comprehensively outshone by Townsend, yet still retain his place seemingly, then I don't blame the kid for wanting to leave.

If we're selling Bale too there shouldn't be any need to sell Townsend to raise funds.

I'd much rather him being backup to say Lamela than Lennon in a 4-3-3.

Townsend isn't going to be the difference maker in getting them both mate.

If we are serious about raising additional funds then Lennon and Siggy would be higher up my list and would both command a better fee in today's market.

SP wants more money from us to go I bet.
