with the window opening mid May, will we be trying to get signings done before the WC, or wait until after?
i think poch (and us) would want signings done as soon as possible. also, there are players not playing in WC so WC does not matter at all

I think most players we would be looking at will be in the WC squads. I'd be very surprised if there are any agents not saying wait till you've played in the WC and showcase your abilities before accepting a move. No doubt a few will be agreed already but you'd be foolish not to wait.

As I said to Everlasting Seconds above, he said he would stay for duration of his deal
I don't think he has said that, actually. He has said that he has 3 years left on his contract, but he hasn't said that he would honour it come what may. I'm sure he has said that he doesn't like to break contracts, but he did at Southampton, and he is aware that clubs don't share his feeling. Espanyol sacked him. He is under no illusion that Levy would pull the trigger if he felt it was the right thing to do.

At the end of Poch's book there's a section with comments about him from some of the players and staff. Levy say's how happy he is with Poch and that he would like him to stay at the club for the next 10-15 years and become our Fergie.
If Levy can get him to sign a new deal I'm sure he will do it. The only real worry is if Poch wants more money for players than we can commit to when we've still got to pay off so much of the stadium, but you'd think with his knowledge of the project that he'd be aware of the constraints we're under and would be realistic with how much he asked for.

One thing that worries me a little - Poch does not have an agent.

Contract negotiations can sometimes get a little contentious. Agents help keep the personal animosity to a minimum - allows the club to negotiate its position without directly insulting the players/manager. I don't think Levy ever makes this personal, it's always business to him, but I would hate to see that relationship strained over the negotiations.

As for Poch's statement about not "demanding" a new deal - just because he does not demand a new deal does not mean that he does not want to be paid what he is worth. Poch puts the onus on the club to match s ambitions/expectations. If the club fails to do that, he is prepared to walk away.

And, for the "winning trophies" group, this is a bottom line business - when it comes to wages, or other expenses, those are determined based on the revenue generated, not trophies. Now, trophies can add to a teams revenue, directly, and indirectly, but those revenues pale in comparison to competing in CL, and in finishing top-4 in the league. Poch has more that earned a pay raise based on the additional revenue he has brought to the club, and the risk those revenues go away if Poch leaves.

Surely poch wanting a new contract is a good thing and it’s up to him to get the best deal and up to levy to get spurs the best deal. Not sure why there is a undertone of negativity about it.

Does seem a bit conflicted, when this is similar to what he's kicked Toby to the kerb for doing, ie demanding parity with the best in the league.
Its been said multiple times on here that Toby’s been kicked to the side because he reneged after Poch went to bat for him

If only he had a quater of the trophies.

if your going by Peps trophies at City, a quarter wouldn't equal a trophy yet still.

As others have mentioned perhaps this will all be resolved once CL is confirmed, so lets all prey it's confirmed very quickly, as Levy would be a mug to lose Poch, even if we finished 5th. lose Poch we could have an exodus of players wanting to leave

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I would say so. We signed Modric before the Euros was it? That kind of deal is rare though I would have thought.

Highly doubt we'll sign anyone before the world cup. I'd imagine things will be set in motion at the end of the season if we wrap up the CL. Suspect it will be Poch contract, a few player extensions and signings will mostly be left until the final few days of the window as they usually are.

I fully expect a mad scramble to do business come august 7th when levy realizes the window closes in 2 days

He does have a lawyer which will give him the advise/knowledge he needs. I think it's better. Agents always have a HUGE list of contacts. I think his heart is still with us... And I think this comments about leaving was to deflect the press form being to hard on the players after the lost to Man U.

Putting things together....
1. We all know he is getting a pay rise
2. He is still under contract
3. He isn't that badly under paid, especially after bonuses.

I think everything will be fine. Levy values him... Enough to give him a freaking nice car for his birthday.

I think there arent actually that many jobs for Poch this summer, he wont take Barca, Real will keep Zidane, he wont go to the Scum, Citeh, Man U and Liverpool arent available, i cant see him going to Chelsea or them wanting him and PSG are appointing Tuchel
