Its not just Levy though.
Cant remember who said it, but there is a team of consultants that Levy uses on transfers (reason why we take longer than other clubs?) and if they will be a good buy.
Think Pleat was mentioned as one of them.

Getting deals in place and getting the Redknapp situation sorted soon, then we can move on with the deals if we want to.

Yep I know it's more than just Levy, but someone needs to have an idea of what system we'll be playing next year to know what targets we should be going for. And surely that person needs to be the manager.

I dunno...if we're going for good players then there's a limit to how problematic it can be but it doesn't sit comfortably with me.

Would be shocked, isn't he getting paid £400k a week as a player coach in China?

Yeah but at the same time the chairman picked himself to partner him upfront (I think) in one game so he may have decided to go elsewhere.

Hope it's nowhere near us though.

I read that too, caused me a great amount of happiness... I hope we don't sign him

Nice one A&C - far too much hand wringing and melodramatics going on at moment on here.... Its a lot like my 4 yr old daughter on here at present. Headline or ITK states "DL has flown out to france" cue 40 pages of "have you got me a treat Daniel?"..... What will be, will be.... we will either sign someone or we wont, we will either be delighted with that signing or we wont, we will still end up following spurs at the start of the season with the same passion as we ended this one........Its really not worth risking the thrombosis between now and then is it?

My concern is that whilst I think Levy is a fantastic chairman, our transfer targets should be picked by the manager. There's also the concern that we sign players for one manager and then the new man (if it happens) wants something different. I think with someone like Vertonghen is fine because every manager will want a good centre back. Someone like Remy may be a bit different though as his style doesn't necessarily fit every system.

I think Archibald may simply be saying that the manager issue won't stop us signing Vertonghen. After that though I think we need a manager before we start splashing the cash.

Largely agreed but think Levy (and his team of moneyball consultants) will get on with the 'safe' acquisitions/disposals of players whilst taking the time pressure off the manager discussions (whether Harry or anyone else) - presumeably based on Spurs continuing the 4231 (and variations such as 4411) which are now being played from the first team to the academy at Spurs.

Agreed ideally you want the manager involved - but think I prefer Levy making decisions after the Ramos/Commoli saga where a number of their 'individualistic' acquisitions such as Bentley/Hiutton/Gio have caused us problems with Harry's desired style of play. After Vertanghen we need strikers and would not be surprised to see one arrive if the manager is not sorted - Remy might be individualistic but would be ok provided he is good up front (rather than right wing which I think is a Harryism which Levy would indulge provided he is good up front) or indeed Ade or de Jong (ie only top players) - but am sure Levy would also prefer to get manager position sorted first as well.

And a little snippet i have heard on the grapevine regarding adebayor. Spurs paid £70k a week last season, city paid £125k a week ..... so essentially for adebayor to sign permanently he will have to take a minimum £115k drop per week in wages.... make of that what you will
