And people can say what they like about Hugo, Dier etc but players with drive and hunger to win and compete at the highest level aren't going to just sit in the reserves for a year regardless of their contract circumstance.

That is the mentality we have built over the last 5 or 6 years.

Don't get me wrong they are more than entitled to do that, and I'm not slagging them off for sitting on their contracts. What I'm saying is I'll be glad to see the back of players with that mentality.

Hopefully we reach agreement with both and they are gone this week. I don't want players happy to coast, around a young hungry squad.

And that's what been so wrong with the culture within the Club in recent years.

He's been told he's not going to play. So unless things have changed I doubt he will be registered. Dav and Davies will be the back ups.

Dav has looked decent so far this season under Ange, let's get behind him and hope he can cover for us if needed until Jan.

Hopefully we can sort Lloris, Dier, and Tanguy out if possible and be ready to add at CB and go back for Gallagher (if Ange still wants/needs) in Jan. Only 4 months away with league matches and internationals...

I'm really glad to hear this. If we get a few injuries Phillips and Dorrington should be given a chance to prove themselves. It shows a really poor attitude from Dier to not want to go out and play, it's time to give someone else a chance.

I'll go into more detail when we do the annual breakdown of the transfer window but I'm fairly happy with what's transpired today because, leaving business this late, it was going to be nothing more than adding people who will be deemed not good enough in 1-2 seasons time we can't move on. We will most likely suffer this season because of it though but I think it'll be worth it in the long run if it's truly because we have too many players we can't shift.

So I say this as somebody who isn't full of disappointment about what transpired today. It is the constant moving of the goalposts that is infuriating people; told to wait until deadline day before people get annoyed, posts being told that people will still complain even if we sign 3 today, told to wait until the window closes, told now that it's a difficult situation.

If you never are willing to concede a little bit of your position despite, having to keep moving the goalposts to defend it, yeah people are going to get angry. How many seasons in a row is it now? If something is a problem that is out of your control, you adapt to the variable. Next summer 4 Non-HG players will be out of contract, deadwood cannot be something to hide behind next summer.

If Postecoglou said he needed another CB and Levy hasn’t delivered on that, even with all these new data analysts in tow, I really hope there is a very firm knock on the chairman’s door tomorrow morning.

Exactly this.

The pair of them (and others) would rather risk having no squad number and training with the U21s, then actually just leave and play and compete elsewhere.

If anyone needed evidence of just how cushy some of these players have it at Spurs - this is it laid bare.

The absurdly easily pleased on here will laud the pair of them as great servants blah blah blah.

In reality they would rather stay here and get paid to run down a contract, than actually leave and have to work hard elsewhere.

Great servants my absolute hole.

I agree on the cb but again, who knows if we're short or whatever that means. Maybe if we got in Tosin he would have been worse than Dier deputising this season. Or maybe Romero and VDV don't get injured.

I just don't think a squad is ever complete or perfect. You can always point out a weak link in every team that could have been improved.

I see us, in the last 3 years, being very active, making smarter signings, and building what I think is a damn good squad. Not a perfect one - the job isn't over, but as long as we're better after every window I'll take that.

And yes, Kane makes this a lot harder to swallow. We'd probably have been better this season with him, but certainly not next season without him and a chunk to reinvest in the coming windows.
Agreed. In the past two years (three summers), we've replaced our entire starting XI, apart from Son (but we have signed 3x LW), and no-one has suggested that the rebuild is complete. Some of the same people who have acknowledged the need for a "slow and painful rebuild" are essentially putting expectations on the club to complete a quick and painless rebuild.

Signings since June 2021:

---------------------Richarlison----------------------
------------------------Veliz-------------------------

Perisic---------------Maddison--------------Kulusevski
Solomon------------------------------------Johnson
Gil

-------------Bissouma-------Bentancur---------------
-----------------------------Sarr---------------------

Udogie---------VDV---------Romero-------------Porro
----------------------------Phillips-----------Emerson
---------------------------------------------Spence

-----------------------Vicario-----------------------
-----------------------Foster------------------------

Italics = signed as "one for the future".

No wonder we've been in such a pickle of late. We have too many players just comfortable in the nice training ground environment picking up their £80k a week. Go into the Bentancur thread to see how Ange has been speaking about him and that's the difference. I can understand the PEH one (at least till Jan) but massive questions have to be asked of Lloris, Dier & Ndombele.

With Munn due to start work (I've read) within the next few days (yet another shambles) is there any ITK belief that DL might finally step aside from the football operations side of things? Please god tell us (Ange aside) there is a semblance of hope/change in where we might be going.

I hope they don’t enjoy their lunch.

I don't think you can blame the players. In every walk of life some people prefer comfort and continuity over pushing the boundaries and I'm sure the club as a whole over the last few years has accustomed them to that. They have every right to reject any moves. It just does us no good to keep comfortable players around the new boys.

Fingers crossed Romero doesn’t do something rash and get a suspension first half of this year or go off to Argentina and get himself hurt. He historically does one or the other.
