Ah I know it's very different, put aside what happened, he's a generational talent and UTD really wanted to keep him. If he shows a fraction of his ability in Spain he will be sold, most likely Saudi, but for big money.
Greenwood a "generational talent" (🤢)? At being utter scum, possibly.

OK. So we should have spent a further £120m+ on top of £40m Maddison and £47.5m Johnson?
We sold players and have loan fees probably to the tune of 125 million - guesstimate?

I think, given our game changing stadium, we could have a couple of windows where we push the boat out. So yes. I think we could have had an extra 100 million outlay if we had desired or wanted to get what the manager needed

Very happy with every single player we signed.

But the fact we’ve only shifted THREE players permanently - one of whom is our greatest ever - when the squad was already desperately in need of trimming, is an utter disgrace.

Yet more abject mismanagement of the squad and negligent transfer dealings from Levy.

Let’s hope the rumoured bonfire of existing contracts starts very soon.

Pro: Delighted with our current first 11. Much improved and great age profile in most areas.

Con: Squad is as thin as a Rizla paper in a number of key areas beyond the first 11 though

Would have liked Gallagher but that was a nice to have IMO.

Depth at CB should have been non negotiable. The idea that Dier or Sanchez could get minutes still worries the life out of me.

But they won’t be involved and probably be gone in a few weeks. Most of you just aren’t realistic. We aren’t solving this in one window.

But we have a better goalkeeper, a better left back, a better centre back than last season. We have an attacking midfielder that we didn’t have last season. We have another promising winger who can play across the front line.
We’d all like another centre back and striker, but to get all those players in over one window is impossible.

I’m not complaining about a single one of our incomings.

I’m questioning the sanity of you celebrating the fact that Dier, Lloris and Ndombele are inexplicably still sodding well here.

But It does feel like when we need to spend, and he does, he spends it really poorly. It would have been better spend a bit more and get Nico Williams, and fix the HG issue in another part of the pitch.

Note: “a bit” more re: Nico Williams. I’m not sure how large that bit would be :)
Ah OK, it's just because he didn't spend it on the player you wanted? All the reports saying Ange really wanted Johnson, so surely Levy getting him is a good thing no?

I’m not celebrating. You just need a dose of reality.

I think it is fucking insane that we haven't signed another CB, especially when Ange said in a press conference to the entire world that he wanted another one. We should have signed a second CB ages ago, and invested significantly in that position. Shit like this will happen year after year under this ownership. ENIC Out.

But you know what....

I'm not going to have a full on meltdown. I am extremely excited about our potential under Ange, and we do have a solid bunch of very exciting players.

So whilst it would be tempting to go apeshit in here, fuck that.

I've had enough of the toxic feelings that I (and many others) have had towards the team/club recently. I'm just going to look forward to seeing what we could do with this team, with very little expectations.

And what about VDV? Where does that money fit in? Or Vicario?

I’m not saying I don’t wish we’d done it. I just don’t think it’s grounded in financial reality.

Levy never spends any money

*Levy literally just spent £47.5m on a player*
Great straw man. No one has ever said levy ‘never spends any money’. But spending less than half what you got for Kane isn’t something we should be high fiving ourselves about is it? He spends the bare minimum he thinks he can get away with and stay competitive, and he’s too clever by half

Watch the Newcastle documentary. The richest club in the world who have to be so prudent in spending money.

If Newcastle had our revenue streams and FFP headroom (and sold a homegrown player for over £100m) they wouldn't be.

There's a reason most top clubs are near the FFP limit and us and Utd are the only ones that aren't, and it's down to lack of ambition from the owners.
