And people can say what they like about Hugo, Dier etc but players with drive and hunger to win and compete at the highest level aren't going to just sit in the reserves for a year regardless of their contract circumstance.

That is the mentality we have built over the last 5 or 6 years.

Don't get me wrong they are more than entitled to do that, and I'm not slagging them off for sitting on their contracts. What I'm saying is I'll be glad to see the back of players with that mentality.

Hopefully we reach agreement with both and they are gone this week. I don't want players happy to coast, around a young hungry squad.
This is really my greatest disappointment this window. TBH, I was doing more refreshing in the threads of Hojbjerg and Dier than the incoming ones last night.

As the so called leadership group, would really have expected them to man up and play for a new beginning elsewhere knowing they have no future here, for the sake of the team.

Hojbjerg, could have been £30 million to Fulham, argh..... Ffs...

Comes to think of it now, perhaps this explained why we were underperfomring when it mattered most in games under this group of players, Kane included with his way of handling his departure, since 3 years ago..

If such practice continues, and I'm holding Levy partly responsible too, any long-serving players we have will hardly retain any legacies in this club.

Exactly. Both Lloris and Dier were first choice players under Conte and even more so under Mourinho. Lloris dropped off dramatically and, while it's fashionable to hate on Dier, the only reason he's now surplus to requirements is we're playing a high line under Ange - neither he, nor the Club knew that until Ange was hired.

I find the rush to stick the knives into two wonderful servants of the Club really fucking embarrassing. I totally understand @Trix 's point that we can't be having senior players hanging around picking up a cheque in a young hungry squad but this is on the CLub for not finding loans to see these players out until their contracts end. Dier especially cannot be expected to get tied down to a contract at a CLub he doesn't want to be at when he can make his choice (if there are any buyers) in a years time. Loans had to be found and they weren't.

Both those players are absolute professionals who have sweated blood for Spurs. How quickly we forget,
Sorry but what on earth makes you think dier or Lloris will get offers from better clubs and/or better money in 12 months time?
And if we cancel contracts they can’t be registered until January
Both have left themselves until sept 15th to find a club in turkey or Saudi
Loans were found and the players turned them down.

I don’t begrudge Hojbjerg being reluctant to commit to a relegation bound team like Fulham

Our manager asked for one position to be covered. Despite Ange’s great start to life at Tottenham we couldn’t accommodate his wishes. Fuck everything else, this is all Levy had to do and he failed miserably.

Lloris should have been replaced two years ago.
Levy bought NDombele to appease Poch despite the scouting department’s misgivings about his attitude and work ethic. To compound that error by giving him the second higest salary after Kane was utter madness on Levy’s part. He’s now reaping what he sowed.

Do we actually know that for a fact? Honest question, because I do not know myself.

Obviously has been a distastrous signing, but for once Levy really did back the manager.

Some folks seriously have their heads in the sand, I’m not sure if it’s some sort of coping mechanism but it’s bizzare.

We sold Harry fucking Kane and didn’t sign a replacement, in fact we were scrambling around on deadline day trying to get Lloyd Kelly & Trevor Chalobah, Jesus Christ.

Positively saying that ‘we signed Maddison, VDV & Vicario’ needs to stop - we’re the 9th richest club on the planet - these guys should have been signed anyway!!!

They replaced a dire Lloris, Eriksen who left 5 years ago and Vertonghen who left 5 years ago too. COME ON

Do we not have a fucking budget? Why can’t we sign players where we are in need without relying on sales?

Usually the sales covering our buys are the likes of Hojbjerg & Regulion, but we couldn’t even do that this year, and it’s fucking Harry who’s covering them. OUR BEST EVER PLAYER.

And people are saying it been a good window. Get a grip, we don’t have a striker that looks capable of 10 PL goals and we’re 2 injuries from Sanchez & Davies being mainstays again.

Just to clarify this point, if Ange has specifically requested a backup CB as a priority (as seems to be the case), and Levy has promised him one and failed to get it over the line, that’s clearly a big failing on the club’s part. I’m not denying that.

I just don’t think the overall situation is as catastrophic as some people are suggesting, especially given what a mess we were in at the end of last season.
I am glad you addressed the failing part, as being an international defender doesn't equate to being a good solid consistent defender.

Catastrophic is not the term used for this, it is embarrassing and failure to just do the right thing for once.

I am done moaning about Levy as nothing will change. I will sit back and enjoy the football as who knows, maybe just maybe with our fixtures schedule of one game a week, we might be able to cope till next January, then the same old adage of you can't buy quality in January.

No we don't know that, people are making that up now to build a story.

Wasn't massively hyped for Johnson but will be nice to have someone with raw pace and another option. Have to forget the price tag and wish him luck.

As for everything else we proved again there is no benefit for leaving it late. Could have signed Johnson a month ago if he was the main target.

Could have bough Gallagher as well and wouldn't have saved anything. Would have made shifting hojbjerg easier if we dropped him from the squad he might have gone to Fulham.

I don't think it's been a bad window. We were never fixing everything in one hit although that's what a lot of people seem to have been expecting. We didn't shift out enough deadwood but it's a very difficult market right now and some might yet move on. Either way, they will be gone either in January or at the end of the season. We've improved our HG situation which prepares the way for some non HG signings at some point which will provide more value for money, and Ange has got some of the players he wanted. I look around at other clubs and none of them have exactly blown me away with their business which I think denotes the nature of the market right now.

It played out exactly as expected so I'm mentally prepared to not be too angry.

However, there is a high chance this will change if I see another post with Kulu and Porro being included in a list of our summer business.

Is our hg situation not the same? Maddison and Johnson in with Kane and Winks out?

You keep hearing Ange talk about how we’re at the embryonic stage of where he wants us to be and I think that includes the squad itself. In fact I’d say the squad is much further along. We’ve hopefully got our first choice back 5 sorted (I know we didn’t sign Udogie this window but still new player that’s improved the starting team) Once Bentancur comes back we’ve got 4 top class players (maybe going a bit overboard with Sarr but hard not to) going for 3 MF spots, good back up for Son in Solomon and a new back up/competition for Kulu with Johnson who can play up top.

I would’ve loved to sign a Ferguson or a Vlahovic but you can’t have it all and Richy deserves a crack. We’ll see if he’s got the minerals at the end of the season and if not look to strengthen then.

I’d say it’s a solid 6/10 window maybe pushing a 7 but that’s including Udogie which would be cheating really.

Oddly part of the problem is the new and welcome change in the style of football. Players such as Dier, Pierre, Davies, who were reasonable squad players under previous managers, have found themselves, through no fault of their own, I might add, surplus to requirements. And persuading them to just uproot their whole lives for our benefit, rather than theirs, was always going to be tricky.

So if, they are at some point, due to injuries, suspensions or whatever, called in from the wilderness to play a part, I hope all those villifying them will at least support them in trying to do a professional job, however limited their abilities may be.

“Every penny is invested back into the club” - Daniel Levy

Harry Kane sold for £100m with £200k a week stripped from the wage bill. Brennan Johnson was bought for £37.5m who will be on a fraction of that £200k a week..

Summer 2022, the club had an additional £50m investment that wasn’t invested..

That should leave £112.5m in the club accounts..

Even if people argue where the match day revenue and TV coverage rights go, you can’t argue any of the above.

We are 2 injuries away from a crisis at centre back. With £112.5m to spend, we could have overpaid for 1 young centre back so not to leave Ange in the lurch.

Every penny has NOT been invested in the club, Daniel. This is quite simply a barefaced lie. Don’t lie to the people that invest in the club.

Ninth richest club in the world. Highest ticket prices in the league, and our chairman the highest paid in the league……. But this is the level of strategic squad management we get into the football side in return, always left short. Absolutely shocking. It continues to show the club is not run with intent of on-field success. How does Levy justify the ticket prices and his salary, based on what level of successful performance??

In some areas we are better, Vicario better than 22/23 Lloris, Maddison looking great so far. VdV has taken to the league effortlessly. But you can’t ignore the fact the drop off from our main two CB’s, which we knew and Ange openly discussed. And then the fact we’ve sold arguably our greatest ever player, definitely our most influential of the modern era. But have neglected to replace him, so much for ‘Project Kane’. The real kicker will come when we release Lloris and potentially Dier after the window closes, yet if we’d done it yesterday morning we may just have had time to bring the additional player(s) in that made the difference. Alternatively we’ll just pay them an absolute fortune to not even get close to playing till January when try again to offload them, knowing four months of not playing, clubs will smell out desperation to sell and only offer rock bottom prices.

I’ll get behind Ange, and pray he can somehow extract a bit more from the likes of Dier and Sanchez when the inevitable injuries, suspensions and international duties come along. But once again the board have under delivered and expect the manager to overperform in order to bail them out.

Already looking forward to January when we waste another 31 days saying ‘we need to sell before we buy’, and Levy will set yet more unrealistic prices so we are left scrabbling on the last day, and rehashing the same ‘we’ve been left short again’ comments. Same every window. Maybe if we went the other way and actually signed the players we need, the ones we didn’t would have got the message a bit clearer and stopped rejecting offers.

Only hope of salvaging something would be to see Lloris, Dier and Ndombele, maybe even Hojbjerg sold to one of the leagues still open, and then deals put in place for players to arrive at the start of January, maybe some of these talented South American youngsters when their league finishes, or perhaps Ange identifying some young talents from the Asian leagues. In the interim, try and get some minutes for some of the more promising U21’s if we’re winning games comfortably to boost their development.

Anyhow, I’m not going to stew on it any longer and let it ruin my weekend. Bring on Burnley. Let’s kick on, hoping for another clean sheet for Vicario and goals for Richy and Son.

Only disappointment for me was that we couldn’t get Ndombele out the door.

Keeping Dier, Sanchez, PEH, Lo Celso and Lloris is fine. They’re top professionals who I’m certain will conduct themselves properly, train hard and will give their all for team if selected.

Our problem isn’t our starting eleven as such. It’s that we have little to no backup in most positions.
we’re good at rb, rwf and lwf and 8
We’re not covered at cb, cdm or 9

Ali golds breakdown of this window on twitter is basically my take, decent window but more could have been done in specific areas, and the optic of the kane sale and hardly anything comming in after just looks bad all round.
