Ange had Phillips on the bench, clearly thinks he's ready for Prem football. How old does someone need to be before they're 'ready'? Evan Ferguson is only 17, and many here want to sign him! Aaron Lennon was only 16 when he made his debut for us in the Prem.

Ok to we end up at Arsenal with Philips playing and Hojbjerg being moved to play song side him at CB due to injuries/suspensions of Romero and VDV and take one huge beating due to a defence that can’t function. That may or may not happen but you massively increase the risk of an event like this by removing a CB who clearly fits this way of playing. It’s unnecessary risk for small profit, it makes no sense other than the club only thinking in money terms.

I agree in principle. And Ange will know better than us or any other body of fans - but the consensus from the Blackburn fans was that he wasn't Premiership ready when we bought him.

If Ange feels differently and genuinely believes he is at the level of Sanchez or more suited to his style then I'm fine with it. I'm just sceptical that this is the situation and it's not financially driven.

This would also be backed up by the fact we were obviously targeting another first team quality CB in the window just closed.

Don't get me wrong, I think Sanchez going is totally financial, he's the only sellable player seemingly of those we've wanted to move on, so I get the want to actually recoup some of his somewhat large fee!

Not saying he isn't ready, I have no idea, but being 'ready' to play CB, particularly in a high line, is quite different to being 'ready' to play further up the field.

He'll be constantly under pressure to avoid mistakes from the off . We could kill his confidence quite easily.

You could have said the same thing about VdV or Udogie - both showed - in almost no time at all - they were ready to handle the pressure. I trust both now, as though they are PL veterans.

I have no idea where Phillips is - but Ange has seen him train - the same way he saw VdV and Udogie train - and Ange will know where he is mentally and physically.

If Romero is injured we have Philips a young 18 year old to come in if Sanchez isn’t available. That is more than slightly exposed, that is taking a big risk. This is a very clear case of will the club put the interests of the football first or money first.
I assume that's a rhetorical question.

Or he could flourish? We don't know and know one apart from those who watch him train actually know. And Stephen Carr was 17 when he debuted for Spurs, Jack Rodwell was 16, Richard Dunne, 17, Nathan Ake, 17, Roberth Huth, 17, etc etc.....the upshot is, he could be ready, we don't know and its fine to sell Sanchez, Emerson can also play on the right side of the CB pairing too.

People can justify it all they want but we’ve sold Sanchez because, as ever, the financial gain has taken priority over the strength of the squad. Levy was never going to let him go on a free.

He’s our only back up CB capable of playing in our system, and it’s now more than likely that Dier will be playing a significant part in our season. One long term injury to Romero or VDV and we’re absolutely fucked. It’s a joke, and I didn’t think this window could get much more pathetic and ambitionless after Friday night.

But you don't know he is, we have Phillips, and Emerson can play CB too.

I’d believe that it is to make way for Philips or Dorrington but if so why where we scrambling to try and buy Kelly on the final day. To me this just seems a money over squad decision.

We might get lucky and Romero and VDV play every game till Jan or Philips steps up beyond expectation but it’s an unnecessary risk in my view.

I’m struggling to see one reason to sell Sanchez that isn’t money related.

Clearing the decks whilst we can so we can make moves in Jan. Sanchez may be a better fit for us than Dier right now but he has never been good enough for us so if the opportunity is there to sell him we should take it, especially if it means getting shot of Ndombele as well.

A long-term injury to either - and we strengthen in January.

Short-term, we have players who can step up - as well as any back-up CBs in the league outside of a very few teams.

I have confidence in Ange. It’s funny seeing some of the hand wringing going on here. Come on. Believe in Ange!
