Whilst watching the Werder Bremen game i noticed how we were not being troubled by them. my mind drifted to Dawson and how he is our first choice CB. it got me thinking as to who will be dropped when he is fully fit. a month ago i was certain that Dawson should be partnering Kaboul when he returns. Gallas recent form has given me food for thought. exactly who should be dropped.

Dropping Kaboul will not be good for his confidence and he gets better with each game he plays. he is young and is at a stage in his career where he needs to play each week. just go back to last year when Bassong partnered Dawson and how effective they were. he came straight from Newcastle and got game time. this year with limited game time he has not been effective. how do you guys think Harry will approach this conundrum.

It's a trciky one.

Dawson has always exceled when his next to experience..i.e. King.

To have to relatively young CB's in Daws & Kaboul might cause a few issues.

But, Dawson needs to make the next step up, being the main main, the leader of the team.

The future is defintely Daws & Kaboul.

For the good work Gallas has done recently, I can't look past the fact he's only on a 1 year contract and the chances are he won't be around next season.

King, well, sad as it is, his time is coming to an end as well. It's a matter of sooner rather than later.

This is my opinion:

---------------Edurado------------- (or realistic player we can afford that can play upfront alone)

-----Bale------VDV-----Modric------
------Kaboul-------Palacios---------
BAE----King------Galas--------Corky
--------------Gomes----------------

Kaboul as a sweeper. And Daws will get constant games because with 3 players, you are never going to have all 3 fit 100% every other week.

King and Gallas could easily play the sweeper role too. So not only will we utlise our best defenders, we also get Kranj and GDS as backup for the front 3 AM's.

And a Spice bench from hell.

Crottenham Hotspur - I think the mentality is just as important as the skill.

Agree with all your comments mate. should we not be looking to extend Gallas contract on the basis of his current performance and provided he performs at this level for the rest of the season ?. Dawson definately needs to step up and become our senior defender although he has done so for several seasons, on reflection. at this moment in time or come the Chelsea game and after i wonder who Harry drops as Dawson becomes available. i am not carried away by the bremen game as we know that as an offensive force they were lacking.

Isn't he on a 1 year extension if he plays x amount of games this season? So chances are he'll earn a 2nd year.

I think he already has reason to change it. We're not keeping enough clean sheets atm.

In fairness we've only had a settled back four for the past four games! It's not a miracle formula that just instantly clicks they need time to gel as a unit.

And also a bit of protection from midfield.

interesting line up Gibbsy, BUT we know Harry, he is not going to go with that formation. he is a traditional 4-4-2 man. he has such a problem with playing his subs let alone tweaking the team to such a formation. thinking of it could work though, only with Crouch upfront based on what we currently have available.

It will take time for Dawson to fully recover anyway, so it will be a little while yet. By which time all our centre backs will be injured and Dawson will be our only recognised centre back.

During the arsenal game a commentator noted that as individual defenders they were excellent but that they had not developed an understanding of each others game and thus we were not able to defend as a unit. there again having holding midfielder in font of the defence would help them defensively.

I think Dawson's a good player, but never going to get better. I think he's severely limited by a lack of pace.

Two questions then:

1. If you think Dawson is a better player than Kaboul, then which of his attributes are superior to Kaboul's?

2. In your heyday, were you on a football pitch: slow, medium-slow, medium-fast or fast?

Last player I'd drop is Gallas he's our best CB along with King. Daws could work well with Gallas but even so I wouldn't currently drop either. We're leaking goals from the flanks more than anything as our fullbacks tend to get caught out of position a fair bit. Ekotto has no competition so that's a problem as you need to be pushed to play your best. On the right Hutton has been playing pretty good of late but he's still better attacking than defending and does switch off from time to time. I think with Lennon coming back to form putting Charlie back in at RB would definately help shore up the defence as he's a far better defender but if his form doesn't improve then a new RB might be needed or move Kaboul their and get Daws in at CB.

I would not be at all surprised if he brings in Daws to partner Gallas and plays Kaboul at RB. Hutton has been doing well, but his defensive ability is still questionable, and Charlie hasn't been getting a look in recently.

Harry clearly rates Kaboul and has played him at RB in the past, so I think as soon as Super Al has a bad game, or Harry wants some more steel in the back line, we'll see Younes shifted out to the right.
