Fight

I'm not sure if i'm alone in this, but i'm a little concerned with this word at the moment. Dont get me wrong, we do need fighters in the team, but thats not all. When we dont have the ball, then sure, we need to fight tooth and nail to win it back. But its what we do when we get the ball which is our biggest problem in my opinion. I mean, i watched us against Wigan on Sunday and i thought we had plenty of fight defending for our lives. It was the lack of any invention on the ball and lack of getting players forward that caused us a problem. Its like the saying a leopard never changes its spots. Spurs should not change their style of play.

If Harry wants us to start bullying teams then what does that mean for our style of play? Does that mean we'll start playing the long ball game? If thats the case, then we simply dont have the forwards for it. We are a bit lightweight and i cant deny we need a bit more grit in the team. But those physical players need to be able to pass the ball, and pass it forwards. I mean take Dawson for example. When it comes to defending he is very good, throws his body in front of everything and wins a lot of headers. But every time he has the ball, he lumps it upfield. Where does it go from there? Straight back in our direction.

I just dont get why, by being 3rd from bottom, it means we have to fight to survive. We have 17 games left this season. So why cant we play the way we know best? Surely the best way to survive is to play to our strengths? Harry has said that we have plenty of flair players, but where? Giovani Dos Santos? Well he's on the bench and could be loaned or sold if reports are to be believed. Taarabt? No way is he ready for regular 1st team football. So we have Modric and Lennon. Both in their early 20s. Both still developing. They are our flair players. They are the ones who we rely on to make things happen. I like them both, a lot. But do they have the experience of a Keane and Berbatov? Thats why we need someone like Arshavin.

When Ramos arrived over a year ago, i was excited. Not because he had won several trophies in a short space of time. But because he turned Sevilla into one of the most attractive teams in Europe. Not only did they attack with quick precise football, but they worked extremely hard to win the ball. They had fighters too. But when they got the ball, they moved it quick. Thats what we need to do. We need to up the tempo of our attacking play. If theres a perfect example of how the game should be played, then take a look at Barcelona under Pep Guadiola. We all know Barca play some of the best football in the world, but its the workrate they put with it. Its proof that attacking flair does not mean you cant fight hard too.

All i'm asking is for us to fight for the right to play football. To play football the Tottenham way. Not to fight for survival.
To fight for Glory.

I think Fight is not the correct word, Harry described it best when he said we need men. Too many of our players jump out of 50/50 challenges, turn away from the ball when struck.

This may sound trivial but its what wins games, blocking crosses, blocking shots winning 50/50 ball to set up an attack - we dont do ant of this

we really need a creative outlet other then Modric and Huddlestone, as Lennon and Bentleys crosses are far too ertic to be relied on atm. With Pav and Defoe being a far more clinical attack then Keano and Berbatov they would score bagfuls if we could supply the balls to them, we also need to face it that Pav and Defoe are not bad players as they arent as creative as the 2 tossers who left

I think fight is important as well as skill, but the word that is really eluding us is... balance

i think the word that has been eluding us is consistency rather then balance

if youre consitently scoring goals doesnt matter if your team balance is wrong you will pick up points we have proved that the last 2 season lol...

I do take on board what you are saying mate

I hope that there are alternative options to Arshavin being looked at aswell. I mean experienced attacking players who can make things happen for us.

I get annoyed when we don't go for the second ball or when we don't close players down, but stand off and pretend to be holding up play.
We don't make as many lung-busting runs we used to, forwards or back to defend.Too often we don't chase a ball, but give it up as a lost cause. Other teams seem to have two men on our players whenever we have the ball, forcing us to pass quickly, and we often give the ball away. We don't close them down, and give them room to pass. We need to fight for every ball, force errors, catch other teams out on the break. Put in the effort!

Redknapp will see success as turning us into a steady mid table team i.e everton, bolton ,wigan. No more big star signings is this what we want ?

Mate,

he meant people who 'want it' and are prepared to show for the ball instead of slink away to the shadows...on Sunday we had a few who were hiding. not good enough. Again, Jamie O'Hara is skill-wise one of themore limited players, yet the boy doubles up on spirit and heart and as such is worth twice as much to the club currently as Bentley...

play the spurs way or don't play at all imo.

we've always been a team of 4-3's rather than 1-os. and tbh, i liek it that way. we're in a very priveliged position of maybe not being th emost successful club, but we are one of the most attractive.

i woudl take playing in europe with good attractive football over being in the top 3 scraping 1-0s

why should we bully teams? why should we fight in that way? we shouldn't. we don't have the palyers for it. we would be playign to our weaknesses instead of our strengths.

i heard ghaly's pretty feisty.. i mean fighty.

an element of the fans oust some grit from the team and we drift to the bottom end of the table. then they ask '' why is it so much to ask for spurs to have fight AND creativity?''

comical. tragi-comical

and if a manager did overhaul the squad and make us play like that we wouldn't have the archetypal spurs style any more and he would lose his job.

bmj had it right with a philosophy based on a balance of style and substance. even when we were witnessing some atrocious long ball tactics we would let him off as we knew an eye candy game would be just around the corner..
