Mercedes have managed to find a barrister in the Saudi Arabian desert and he/she is in with the stewards currently.
Don’t blame them. Have a feeling this will end up in court. Very bad look for the sport no matter what happens from here on out.

You either take away the title from someone who’s already celebrating or you admit that you didn’t apply your own rules.

Whether you like Lewis or not, that was a totally unfair way to lose a title. smash & grab of the highest order & not in a legal way either.

Well, they could have decided differently and given Lewis new tires and backed him to get past Max, who would probably need to pit again. But I agree they made the right call.

Right, and if Masi followed the regulations - the race either ends on a safety car, or Lewis has to get past the lapped cars, and would have no chance of catching Verstappen.

Mercedes did the only thing that made sense at the time.

As others have mentioned, it Masi wanted a racing finish, he should have red-flagged the race, allowed everyone on new tires, and let the best man win a 4-lap sprint.

THAT would have been exciting, and a sporting way to finish the season - and I probably would have figured Verstappen could have won in that scenario - given how aggressively he drives.

Hence why this whole thing has turned into a fucking farce. The sporting thing they could do is a winner take all 5 laps but even that would be a farce. It’s already decided & doing anything to overturn it would be absurd. The most they should do is admit the fuck up, fire Masi, apologize profusely, maybe asterisk Max’s win for this year in the record books but say it’s already decided.

But had no lasting advantage. That turn is what stiched max on lap 1
Not the same.

Max pushed lewis off on turn 1, he has no where to go. Under safty car no overtaking is allowed, so if you pass someone it's a clear rule that is broken.

You mean when Lewis had to take evasive action off the track because Max lunged at him and turned late into the corner?

Max got off to a poor start. Horner said as much too. The fact Max, who started on softs, allowed Lewis to build a 5+ second advantage on mediums, even after turn 1, is what done for Max.

They can’t Apply different rules just because it is the final race of the season and a championship on the line. You have to be consistent and apply the same rules you would have had it been the first race of the season, which means it would have finished behind the safety car. Masi has contrived an ending which has nothing to do with being sporting.

If I see Max fan boys use that Mercedes quote about winning on the track one more time, I am going to scream. That is quite literally what Mercedes did only for it to be taken away by a race director rigging the fucking result. Fuck. Off.

Unfortunately, "they" can do whatever "they" want.

The max passing lewis behind the safety car, I'm not sure what the rules fully are and lewis was ahead come the line, but max being along side would mean lewis couldn't take the lines he wanted so was impeded to start when he wanted?
