Just about calmed down from that.
Was pretty disgraceful to just hand Verstappen the race in that way by just disregarding the rules.
You let them all through or you let none through. To barstardise the rules like that just to get a lap of "racing" when one car is on its last legs compared to one fresh of the forecourt is tantamount to match fixing
As Nico said. Mercedes were basing the outcomes from the rules, for them to be changed with 1 lap to go would have changed their approach to it all

I agree with Leclerc - sadly.

This will make the start of next season much more highly anticipated.

I hate Red Bull - but lets be honest, their resurgence this year, as a proper foil, to Mercedes is what F1 has needed for a few seasons - since the Ferraris lost all of their pace.
It’s all set to change next season tbf. Mercedes were outsiders before the turbo hybrid era. Next season is a new car with new regulations. We could see a new champion come from anywhere.

Their resurgence was about rule changes which favoured their car and completely changed the aero on the Mercedes

Sure. But they took advantage of that handicap to the Mercedes high-rake set-up, when no other teams could.

Again, I don't like them, nor how they were handed the win today - but, F1 needed some team and driver to step up to challenge the Mercs. Max and Red Bull did that - and that made the season more compelling.

Mercedes were kind of screwed here - Red Bull were alway going to do the opposite of Mercedes at the end. Had Lewis come in for fresh tires, Max would have stayed out - and the race would have ended on a safety car, and Mercedes roundly criticized for giving up track position.

Anyone know why Perez was retired yet? I can’t seem to find an explanation. Seems incredibly fishy seeing as they’d pitted him two laps prior?

Seems unlikely - this is still a money driven, team sport, and Mercedes have the most money and best team, followed closely now by Red Bull (who have recently hired a bunch of Mercedes engineer-types).

Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, and to a lesser extent McLaren - will have the advantage going into the season - the other teams are there to round out the field.

Mercedes have lodged two protests about the result of the race. If it’s the stewards looking over the protest, they’ll come to nothing.
It's the equivalent of Spurs lodging a protest about the Sissoko handball penalty after the CL final had finished. Nothing is going to change the result now.

Can’t see anything happening now, would be absolute carnage for f1 if this was decided after a race. Even more so than the shit show they just produced

Would be surprised if the result is changed. Red Bull gambled on a yellow flag and won. Lots of close calls in the last two races but trying to let the pair of them race made for a way more interesting sport. Now if they made tracks with more passing opportunities the sport might be worth regularly watching again

It's not really though. You can't appeal dodgy penalties after the match.

In F1, there's an appeal process for rules breaches.
