Fabio looked so lifeless out there that I hope the transfer gears start actually moving now.

Can we not use this thread as a place to bemoan the current team etc.

I know it’s more relaxed in here now, but some of the off topic stuff in here is really tedious.

It’s supposed to be about genuine transfer talk and itk stuff.

Disagree with this. I never had any dealings with the playing side of the club, but spent 3 years working on IT projects with them and they penny pinched constantly, even if it actually ended up costing them more. We offered numerous times to help re-design some of their IT architecture (for a cost) so that they could cope better with peak website loads, but they always pushed back on spending money as it wasn't in budget. One month (when we hired Jose) the website went down and then when it came back the peak load cost something like £20k for a couple of days hits due to the badly designed architecture. We'd previously offered to fix this for about £10k and they said it was too pricey.

It's a pretty naive attitude that the club has, in the short term it can help save costs, but a lot of the time it misses out on the bigger picture of costs being incurred. The above is just one of many examples like this, and I'm sure if they do this on the club side then they do this on the playing side too.

It doesn't mean that we're skint, just that those at the top don't see the value in spending a bit more up front when a few £ can be saved, even if it ends up costing them more in the end.
Unfortunately that seems to be how they operate all over the club. There doesn’t seem to be anybody who can do an
accurate cost analysis of the short term and long term benefits of any spending decisions.
Look at Newcastle at the moment
. They realize they have a goal scoring problem with Wilson and Maxima injured so they are willing to make a short term expense to meet Wood’s release clause to get a goal scorer in NOW even if it is for the short term because they realize that if they don’t in the long term it will cost them more because they’ll probably be relegated. I know you’ll say it’s because they have loads of cash but it doesn’t change the fact that they see a problem and they are willing to spend in the short term to benefit in the long term
We , on the other hand, have a similar problem in the striker department which although not as severe as theirs needs fixing giving the possible season defining games we have this month. Nevertheless there does not seem to be any urgency on our part to bring in a striker which will stretch us financially in the short term but could benefit us financially in the long term. In fairness our interest in CDV may be for this reason but there doesn’t seem to be any decisiveness on our part to make it happen.
