Its well known we want Traore, lets not play the "we never wanted him" card.
But is he the number one priority? Or, as an example, would Conte forego Traore if those funds could instead be put into Vlahovic signing? perhaps he’s ‘on the list’ but not at the top so why push it through early then not be able to do what you actually wanted to do. Just my opinion but I can see how this scenario could well play out.

If we cant tie up a deal like this then what chance do we have with the rumoured names of Vlahovic, Dybala etc
Imagine if we went out and spent 40-50 mil on 2-3 players to come in and rotate only for DV's position at Fiorentina becomes untenable(looking more likely by the day) only for us not to have enough money to move for him? Could you imagine how SC would respond? The scenes in here from those same posters whining and crying because we've yet to tie a player up would be on another scale altogether.

All hypothetical of course but none the less........

When you say it's "always been the same" we waited a year to get both NDombele and LoCelso because poch didn't want alternatives. PEH was a first option as was Romero, they've happend in the last few transfer windows. Perhaps you could clarify what you mean by "always".
I take your point Trix, although some of the 1st choices looking at the names above have been shocking! Maybe that is the bigger issue. I thought Bruno Fernandes was first choice over LoCelso but there you go.

Probably helped Poch get the sack that call.

There was only a story the other day from Jaunde Ramos requesting Eto or Villla with the 80mil for Berbatov and ending up with Darren Bent and Pavlychenko. Historically we have not backed our managers. When we sold Bale we had 100 million and bought 6 speculative punts on players hoping one would take off. As it worked out 1 did, Eriksen. The rest poor.

In more recent times none of the below could have been first choice for a position. I am sorry if they were then someone needs the sack:

Joe Rodon
Vinicius
Jansen
N'jie
N'Koudo
Gedson

I think we can all agree we need to improve in the transfer market and the way we operate that is all.

As you said recently things seem to be better so with Paratici at the helm hopefully things our on the way up.

Regret to me is a decision that’s been made that you later deem nonsensical (and wished hindsight was indeed a wonderful thing).

Letting Edwards leave doesn’t fall into that remit for me.
I define a regret as something you didn't do, and a mistake is something you did do. I think there should be regrets around how Edwards was managed (comparing him to Messi etc, barely any loans or game time).

I don't think it was a mistake to sell him.

So we wont strengthen areas needed in the hope we have enough available for Vlahovic late on?

Lovely.

Hypothetical of course.

How often do we hear quotes a player is staying only to leave shortly after? Means nothing

Agree, fingers crossed we do but if we cant appear to pay £20m now for Traore, £75m plus for Vlahovic seems rather difficult?
I don't think that's the point, the point is that we're trying to minimise the damage that Traore does on our budget by playing the game with Wolves rather than handing them over a blank cheque and saying name your price, by doing this it then enables us more manoeuvrability in the market. If we don't do this then we may miss out but I don't think it means it's one or the other, it's about trying to get the very best on every single deal to enable us to do the same on the next one and the one after that.

That's the point, we might just be holding back our spending on the off chance we need the funds for Vlahovic.

Would you like Traore now, and no Vlahovic.

Or try and play smart in the hope he becomes available and we've funds to strike.

All of that is irrelevant. New manager, new DOF.

Going back 10 years to prove a point that has no bearing on the new regime is pretty pointless tbh. This is Partici's first January window(and we already have the gem that is Romero), and Conte's first window altogether. Judging them on what happened under Damien Comolli for example is ridiculous.

I know the come back will be "well it's still Daniel Levy", and my reply to that would be he's not going to have given the job to Conte, just to fuck him about 2 months later. He knows as well as everyone else how Conte operates.

If anyone at Spurs/Conte thinks we can improve the squad to a CL one, without spending 150 to 200 mill (i am not saying NET) they are dreaming
