Makes a mockery of the protracted spence deal though doesn’t it?
Negotiate for 6 weeks+ only to loan him out in the next window.
Not if we got the deal for cheaper? He’s a young lad he needs time to develop, a good prem loan will do him the world of good. Conte will have taught him a lot tactically so he can come back in summer and have a full pre season to fight for his place

I understand this but we’re also repeatedly told that we don’t want to fill the squad with players we don’t really want.
So we add to the squad- in a priority area- to sign the third rwb but now we don’t really intend on playing him and instead will loan him out.
It’s not the same as the udogie deal

Conte is not going to change his system to accommodate a classic number 10 so we need first team ready fast RWb and LWB to really push after Christmas

I told you all way before we signed him he was a compromise for Conte, a player who he thought had potential and was home grown. As I also said back then he was unlikely to get much game time early on.

You can't buy a player and loan him out within the PL in the same window. Even if Spence had been seen by Conte all along as someone who wasn't ready to feature for Spurs, this January is the first opportunity we have to send him out on loan (assuming we want him gaining PL experience rather than in a foreign league).

That’s really not the point I’m making.

But let’s see what happens in January

if we move Doherty on, and bring in an actual starter that goes ahead of Emerson then all good.
If simultaneously spence goes out on loan to a pl club like Brighton for example (forest makes no sense- they’ve already signed serge and neco Williams for rwb) then came back in the summer - and we moved on Emerson and had 2rwbs (spence + 1) then I totally get it.
would be interesting to see what happens in the summer with regreds to Perisic/sessegnon/udogie too

I see a lot of talk about our left side issue, with a focus on LWB..

This is a result of poor RWB options and Deki's injury.

There would be more impact from the left if teams had to concentrate our right side.,

This is why we need to get that RWB and a viable Deki understudy in.

Our left side will be freer and far more effective.

Plus Destiny is coming in the Summer.

Add a CB to that list and that would be an excellent January.

I completely agree with this. It’s offering little to no threat currently, and teams know they really only have to defend 2/3 of the pitch against us. It’s a massive disadvantage to us and it’s why I don’t understand us not giving Spence a chance when he’s at least decent in attack by creating space for himself.

Great post and this has been an obvious issue for quite a while.

How so?

Seems like this was a Levy-led negotiation, where he knew Spence would not be first choice, and thus no need to overpay. Getting him in early was not a priority.

My point was that we shouldn’t be having levy- led deals.
if he’s not fancied by the manager why are we bothering?
Thought we’d identified that being a problem and moved past that.
Anyway, my previous post sums up what I hope will happen

A lot of people have suggested Simakan and I believe we were linked so I texted someone who played with him and this was his opinion.

"so i am gonna give you my opinion about Simakan.
I have 2 different feelings, the first one i think he has the attributes to play in Germany or England in the top teams for sure!
But in the other side, he needs to make step forward by playing more consistently at the highest level regularly to chase the top teams.
Anyway, he is really talented!
Just last thing to finish, his best position is centre back even though he is capable of playing as a right back."

I followed up asking why he believes he's a better cb...

Because he has been formed as a centre back and for me he lacks some technical ability to play as a full bacK"

Talk from spanish media that Atletico are open to selling all of Joao Felix, Rodrigo De Paul, Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Lemar. Could see us being very interested in the first three, if not all of them ?

We will never pay 75m euros for a keeper but I'd happily do that. Costa would likely be our number 1 for 10+ years, and will likely be the best in the world in 2-3 years time
