Pochettino's statement was pretty stupid on various levels wasn't it ?

If we now have to play KWP, what's Pochettino's statement done for his confidence, what's it done for his confidence full stop ? If he does play him and he doesn't play well everyone will say "well, why did you play a player that you told everyone wasn't ready?". It's also announced to the world that we are desperate for a RB, which the selling club will have duly noted in an already crazy market.

Yeah its a shame - because the clubs probably would not have noticed we only have 1 experienced RB on the roster otherwise...

Tbh if you read back the paragraph with poch answeer. Its pretty hard to make much sense of it.He could easily turn round and say no that's not what I meant it was lost in translation.

Calm down and give Poch some slack.

He's already sold Walker at your behest.

How many favours do you want from him within the same window? :p

Over to you KWP. Time to prove a few people wrong.

Personally he is more than capable, but like others have mentioned it will either be Dier at RB or Sissoko at RWB most likely. I would start the kid that has played most of his youth in the position and not two cumbersome athletes, but what do I know. I do know that Dier under pressure is basically a turnover though, so for that reason alone I wouldn't put him in a position that is crucial to our buildup. If someone were to compile individual touches over the course of the year, our FBs would be up there with the most and thus players with technique need to be in that position. Sissoko and Dier are both lead footed.

Yup, can't see any issue playing him RWB at Newcastle to be honest. Then tighten up if we need to v Chelsea.

Well they wouldn't if he'd said "we have two Rb's here already because KWP is ready to play some games".

Even if he didn't believe that, and others didn't, it makes more sense to say that, for the reasons I stated, not least KWP's confidence. Why tell the world - and him - that you don't have confidence in him?

Given that Poch has never been negative in public over any issue, what he is said to have said must have been because of some deficiency in his English language. He has always been so careful with what he says that I can't believe that is what he meant.

I would've thought a slight hint that the statement was bollocks would be bidding for a new right back though?

What Poch says to KWP in private, we have no idea. Given what he's achieved so far, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to getting the best out of our young players.

It's a hard to understand quote, but he kind of did say that within it. In the bold below, he seems to be saying that KWP is ready to play in some games but if Trippier is out injured for a few weeks, we can't rely on just KWP.

"He's very young. It's true that to think and to give the big responsibility like Kieran, it's too much today for him. He's a player that needs to work with us and maybe start to play in different games but we cannot think that he is, in the case of Kieran weeks away from the team, only he can replace him. I think we are working, but we were working before that happened and try to find the solutions in different positions on the pitch.

For the first time, I do actually see what you are saying (he's saying). Definitely a case of lost in translation. Can you send this to KWP.

He meant he is not ready FFS which is what I have been saying along with others for a while :D

If Tripps is out for me KWP has to start.

Would just be silly playing Sissoko or Dier there when we have a proper right-back ready and available.

There's a slight chance that there was a hint of reverse psychology/motivation going on here.

In terms of it being a tactical blunder in negotiating terms for a new RB, that kind of presupposes that a deal hasn't been done (which none of us know) and that we are not just negotiating personal terms with a player.

In any case, I can't imagine negotiating multi million transfer deals for players are affected simply by an ambiguous statement made by the manager after a pre season game.

I think Poch might play him in this one. To me the comments are not to put too much pressure on KWP by having someone there if Tripps is out longer term at any stage. Would make a lot of sense to sign a full back that can comfortably play left or right for when we have longer term injuries and still need to rotate every one. Davies played a lot of football after Rose got injured and will carry that on till Rose is back in contention.
