Surely wont get much game time now for the rest of the season? I dont see them being involved in either the PL or the latter stages of the Europa league so what do people think we should do with them?

Loan them out or let them play for our U21 side for the rest of the season? I would personally like to see them loaned out so that they get competitive games under their belt and so that the likes of Parrett, Luongo etc get game time for the U21s.

Personally I think they probably should be getting regular bench spots. Townsend is our first reserve in the wing positions and can play either side... in all truth he should be on the bench pretty much every week.As for Carroll, pretty much the same. For me he should be ahead of Hudd in the pecking order, and as the big man gets a spot on the bench most weeks then Carroll would as well.

In reality, I think Townsend will stay given our lack of options. Carroll is the more likely to go out on loan if we could find a PL team willing to give him gametime, which I think is highly unlikely, so will probably have to make do with his current situation of mainly U21 games.

I agree with your points, though I would be more than happy for Carroll to go to a championship side. He hasnt played enough top level games to deserve a PL move yet imo. I would like players such as Carroll & Mason to go on loan and get regular championship games under their belt. The likes of Luongo, Parrett, Bostock, Obika also need to look at loans imo.

Problem is Sherwood earlier has said once the prospects have played in the championship it doesn't make sense sending them back especially since they already proved themselves at that level

Parrett and bostock - are gone imo, they both have talent but it just hasnt worked out

Obika - Not seen today's game I saw potential in him 3/4 years ago but then it went very wrong in the championship and even this season in the U21's, he isnt the striker we hope or want but if a chance falls to him he seems to score in the U21's. I heard he missed a chance today and feel sorry for him that he hasnt been nowhere near our first team and then gets thrown in today. He needs championship loan and hopefully he can make us a tidy sum

Mason - It seems he will be leaving unfortunately, he did very well in the championship his first time round before the bad injuries and frankly not many teams in the championship would accommodate him

Carroll - taken in account Sherwoods comments, its hard to think where he will go from here? it seems he will go back to championship but this will be a struggle for him imo as loan moves for his type of players dont really seem to work

Townsend - He was brilliant for millwall 2 years ago and helped them push for a playoff place that season but failed and did well last season for Birmingham, has to go to PL loan

Luongo - should go to championship and tbh his last loan went well, Pleat said the reason he went back was because that Ipswich squad had no experience so mick let the kids go back

As said these players are all dominating the U21's but unlike other clubs we havent a got a structure in place to bring "flair" players through our academy despite our academy more setup or focused to create these types of players now, it seems we want them to be our fringe player but players like Hudd who seem on the way out are ahead of them atm

Edit:
also we dont play them they will regress, Falque did well for U21's regularly and he got praise from AVB after his cameo for us in the EL and how he has ended up in the second division in spain is beyond me as the reason we signed him was because he was villarreal B's best player in that league and now we are sending him back after 2 years of EL cameo's. Even stranger that he has played arguably better than Lucas at Chelsea but one got sent to a CL team and the other to second division team

We need to give them game time and let them establish themselves in the squad, I fail to see what hudd offers now when we could give Carroll the chance to impress.

With the home grown squad rules now as well we really need to start getting more from our youth system

I also can't understand why AVB seems to prefer Sigs out wide when we have Townsend

I guess Tom carroll will go on loan provided that he was not in the match in both FA CUP and U21 match

Carroll should play when Dembele isn't. He can give us more than what Huddlestone does. I'd like to see Townsend go out on loan.

I felt some of the reporting of this was very unfair on Obika. He did well enough with the chance IMO, but was the victim of a superb last-ditch block by Peltier.

Both Townsend/Carroll should be loaned out to struggling/mid PL sides and prove themselfs the way Caulker did week in/week out. It's hard to see why they should get mins otherwise. Age/potential isn't enough for game time...you need to be able to do something.

It's best if you don't loan them out to struggling sides, losing every week doesn't do your confidence any good. We pass the ball so you should loan players to clubs who want to pass the ball like Swansea. It would be pointless sending a player to Stake or West Ham for instance, as one loves to kick and the other hoof it.

I disagree. I think if you are good enough you should be good enough anywhere. You might not get to showcase the best side of your game (e.g. if you are a passing type needing time on ball then you might not have it) but thats exactly why they need to fix weaknesses.

I don't think the purpose of the loan is to boost their confidence; they train with the first teamers so they should already know where they stand. I think they need PL games to up their speed of thought/playing style to the requirements of the league.

Tim Sherwood our Head of Development has already stated the importance of sending them to a club who pay the right style of football, destroying them young doesn't help us. Look at Newcastle the team who finished high up the table last season have totally lost confidence and are in free fall. Confidence is vital for a footballer, developing it rather than destroying it for younger players will give greater benefit.

I don't think the downfall of Newcastle has to do with confidence only.
I agree that where possible you would rather choose a team that plays good football e.g. Swansea but if a chance at a Stoke comes calling can an aspiring youngster say no? The choice is between playing 5 to 10 games (mostly europa/bench) vs more than double that against the same opposition. If i was Townsend i would take the chance. higher risk = higher return.
