Ah so tk opinion when its pro your stance is taken as gospel since its surely an educated opinion but when its not, you throw it away. Got it.
It has worked for everyone else this window.

You're funny.

If we don't sign anyone yet manage to finish second or third (again) and get to the quarter finals of the Champions league (for example), would you not wonder how well we might have done if we'd actually improved the squad? We have an excellent squad but it has very obvious areas we can improve (ie central midfield) so to not improve is potentially missing a huge opportunity to capitalise while we have some outstanding players and manager.

Despite being an excellent custodian of the Club, and I genuinely believe that, it is Levy's failure to capitalise on golden opportunities that he is at risk of being remembered for.

Yeh I agree with a lot of what you say.

The comment of mine you quoted was part of a thread. No one has time on a forum to check through the whole thread for the conversation like some sort of academic exercise and so peoples comments are frequently taken as a global statement of their beliefs when in actual fact it’s highly contextual.

My beliefs seem to be very similar to yours. We have gaps that by all accounts the club has identified. They are working towards making appropriate signings.

The argument I had been making was very limited - that we need to view the transfer window in light of the season. If the results are good this season then it would have been a successful transfer window.

Of course that doesn’t help us now. But as stated above - the club is being linked with signings that would take us forward.
I know, it’s always tricky developing a point in this type of format. My highly motivated 16 year old son is writing an essay criticising The Last Jedi; he’s currently at 9000 words and still feels frustrated he can’t articulate all his thoughts and feelings in the detail he’d like so what hope have us busy adults?!!
I think the anxieties of our fan base are manifested because we’re at such an important crossroads. The new stadium, consolidating the top 4, the potential to become a regular powerhouse in the CL. We know this is new, uncharted territory and for that we have to thank Levy and Poch. My concern is that a potentially disillusioned Poch walks at some point in the future because he can smell glory but never fully taste it. It’s all speculation and supposition of course, but given our long journey from mid table mediocrity to where we are now, anxieties are likely to manifest, especially given some of our more farcical moments over the years. Who could forget Moutinho and Daniel’s wonky fax machine?
Anyway, what this does genererate, at the very least, are some insightful discussions and an opportunity to digest differently nuanced views. I enjoy your posts, and I hope you’ll be there on Thursday evening to say “See, told you so. Nothing to worry about.’

Maybe in the majority of the fan base he’ll be remembered for this clusterfuck. But on SC where his sons run mostly unchecked? He’ll be remembered for all the good while the bad will be discounted and any dissenters will be sunned, drawn and quartered.

There is definitely enough quality in here to make it worthwhile. I’ve followed you.

Good luck to your son and see you Thursday ?

In truth there isn't a great deal of bad. He just needs to loosen up a little when opportunity knocks.

With the exception of Grealish, all the other so called transfer targets are based on speculation drawn up by an over zealous media and press who need to sell papers and get people to tune into their amateur discussions and justification of £70 per month satellite subscription.
They are responsbile for buidling up ths frenzy and we are guilty of being sucked into it.
I'm pretty sure Levy and Poch have specific targets, for what ever reason haven't yet come to fruition. It is always going to be challenge to add the desire level of quality to an already talented squad and better quality is rarely available at a price we can afford.

Poch quotes,

“To win trophies, you need to feel pressure. If I’m Kane, Dele or Eriksen, if there’s no competition, it’s normal to drop your level/motivation.” [August 2017]

“We cannot think we are the cleverest people in the world & that we will win trophies by spending small.” [May 2018]

Pretty much says it all ?

Those Edmonton quotes are worrying. Hoping it's not the most informed opinion, I think he's more of finance/stadium ITK isn't he?

ITKs and Rob/A&C seem to still be holding out hope.

As I have said, coaches at Spurs have viewed the transfer market as far less important than fans do. Why is this?

I’m going to work by analogy that (completely coincidentally) an academy coach at spurs told me. We were discussing why people buy lottery tickets. I said I thought it was ridiculous and irrational because the chances of winning are so slim. He agreed but said the reason people buy lottery tickets is not because they think they’ll win - but because the 10 minutes around buying the ticket every week gives them a chance to escape humdrum reality and fantasise about what they’d spend the money on. That is worth the couple of quid they spend every week.
.
I am really worried that coaches at Spurs are so bad at analogies. Thankfully they are football coaches and not philosophers or barristers. Buying players is nothing like buying a lottery ticket. A decent analogy would be buying a new car. If a regular man on a regular income buys a Ferrari, it will be fun for a moment, but eventually end in financial ruin and everyone worse off. At the same time, you cannot expect Lewis Hamilton to continue to drive a Ford Fiesta in competition.

I'm sorry, but do you genuinely think those defending Levy are in the majority here atm? There's barely a comment in the place that isn't criticising him or his approach to this window.

To me it’s quite simple. We have a first team that is extremely good, the best Spurs team I’ve known in my fifty years supporting, and several very good back up options. When we buy players now we are not going to pay the astronomical Neymar/ Mbappe type prices that would improve our first team instantly and probably not even the next level down type prices. If we cannot find the players at the price we are prepared to pay or afford then we are going to look at potential or try to find an unexpected bargain. It’s as simple as that and it’s why DL is such a hard negotiator. I see Spurs as a house of cards with the massive infrastructure improvements we’ve made at such a massive cost- one bad mistake could bring the whole lot crashing down or we can continue building extremely carefully until we are the strongest and best in the country. And not a Sheikh in sight. It’s the right way and patience is required. And I’m the bloke in the nineties that had a massive row with the wife over the astronomical amounts I was spending on the likes of Clubcall and TEAMtalk phone lines because I was so addicted to transfer news. With this squad there just isn’t the need to get so over-excited. We’re in good shape.
