The whole time Poch has been here we've had the issue of funding the stadium construction. That has a massive effect on available funds.
It's like people live in La La Land on here and Twitter sometimes. 'Why doesn't Levy back Poch?' The stadium has been where non-critical resources have been going (essentially everything except payroll) in the the last few years. Levy doesn't have anything significant to back Poch with, and he's been spinning a million plates in the air to give him what he has done.

I still think that if Levy can bring home the naming rights deal when the stadium opens, it will change a lot of things. It will take care of a huge portion of the debt, and mean our repayments are very manageable in the medium term. I think he will put a lot more resources towards the playing squad at that time. But maybe that's just me being optimistic.

And is something that Poch would have been aware of not only when he first signed, but when he extended his contract in the summer.

It would be nice if all the people WTFing my posts could explain the following then:

  • How badly do Trippier, Dier and Dembele have to keep performing, and for how long, before Aurier, Wanyama and Winks are accorded a similar amount of game time to see if they might just do better?
  • How well does Gazzaniga have to do in his fleeting appearances before actually being given the number 2 slot ahead of Vorm, who hasn’t looked adequate in two years.
  • How is it ever a good idea to go up against the slickest passing side in premier league history with a Tony Pulus erotic fantasy midfield of Dier, Sissoko and Dembele?
  • How can you be 0-1 down at home and not being on our second top scorer from the previous season.
Our manager has enough credit in the bank that he is entitled to a bad season, and given the start of next season to improve the situations, but his negative tactics, inexplicable decisions and loyalty to underperforming players is the reason our season is plodding along.

Add Alli to this too. I agree with everything.

Genuinely can't see why United wouldn't want him after their next failed manager. Poch will have so much regret and what ifs if he left now or end of season

Agree 100% on Utd. Not sure on the second bit

I think Poch wanted to get us into the stadium. And he wanted investment in the squad. History doesn’t suggest he’d get the second without a big sale so dunno how realistic that was in current state of move.

I wonder if we tried to rush the move - and regardless of issues that have arisen, the plans were already incredibly ambitious in terms of time scale compared to any other stadium - because of Poch/players’ obviously fading shelf life at Spurs.

I just don’t understand the argument against him leaving in the summer. Why hang around? The stadium maybe? He kept his part of the bargain and Spurs didn’t. Feels like last knockings this season unfortunately, one more at a push. We need a lot of money spending to challenge and it won’t happen unless we flog Kane or Eriksen.

You don’t change the habit of a lifetime as you saddle yourself with the most debt you’ve ever had. Need to be realistic

I have serious doubts Levy would ever match a top class managers ambition. If the stadium paid for itself and raked in an income like no one else in the world, that money would go somewhere else.
We will only ever spend what we earn in the transfer market. We sold no one of note this summer, hence we signed no one.

When the "highest finish with lowest net spend" trophy is inaugurated, we'll be racking up the medals thereafter.
To be honest, I don't think net spend in the market is that big of deal. The wage structure is much more important to get and keep a group of players large enough and with enough quality to compete at the top. Until the club can pay the going rate for top players, we will struggle to maintain a top 4 challenge and compete in the CL year in and year out regardless of the manager.

Just don't remember any kind of goodwill from the man towards fans in his time here. Increased ST prices massively and removed the cup games at the same time just an example - of course tickets prices need to increase over time I get that but he has never had the fans at the forefront of his thinking. His pricing for the new stadium is outrageous and shows what he thinks of the average fan and the way the club is refunding games by releasing the fees paid a just before each match is disgusting. Let me refund 1/19th and then charge you CAT A at Wembley.
Even if we don't qualify for CL next year the prices we still be top dollar but then it's all money before success isn't it.

Why the fuck is Poch 2nd favourite to be Madrid's next manager?

His odds are shortening. :nailbiting:

Why do managers take the Madrid job knowing that any less than a league and CL double puts their job under threat?

For the same reason people take the Chelsea job - the massive payout when you're fired. Madrid paid Rafa £7m to get rid of him, plus it's Spain so the government's going to take years to notice you haven't paid any tax on it.

Whilst it's very easy to sit here and say Poch will be off soon or at the end of the season with everything that has gone on. We do have to remember what he currently has here too.

Kane - one of/if not the best CF in Europe
Eriksen
Alli
Vertonghen/Toby/Sanchez

He'll find that hard to give up. Then I think about Simone at Atletico, it's incredibly difficult for him to win stuff there and he gets linked to Chelsea/United/Arsenal/PSG etc all the time, yet he's still there trying to compete against the tide. I suppose you could say he has won the title there and has had a bit more to spend recently, yet he still must feel that it would be easier for him to rock up at another club and win.

That's not to say that I don't Poch think will be off, but if he can be given a little more encouragement to stay then he may prefer to commit.

Cos the mere fact that you've been at Real Madrid, even if only short-term, looks good on a CV and when you inevitably do get sacked you'll get a tidy severance packet out of it.

Poch has been very good for us. He was probably the best manager we could have got at the time (although we didn’t know it at the time). We’re a different club now, though, and I don’t think it would be impossible to improve on him if he left.

anyone else listen to this guy on Talksport this morning

Spurs fan calls for Eddie Howe to replace Mauricio Pochettino in amazing talkSPORT call

A Tottenham fan joined talkSPORT to express his belief that Mauricio Pochettino should leave Spurs.

Pochettino, the Argentine, has been installed as one of the favourites to succeed Julen Lopetegui as Real Madrid manager following the latter’s sacking on Monday night.

The former Southampton coach admitted earlier this week that he has never before been this unhappy at Tottenham, with the club’s stadium delays and transfer failures said to be frustrating him.

Defeat to Manchester City on Monday left the Lilywhites five points off top spot in the Premier League table, with many considering them lucky to be as high as they are given how disappointing their performances have been this season.

Spurs’ true struggles have shown up in Europe, with the north Londoners all but out the Champions League having failed to win any of their first three group stage matches.

Given everything Pochettino has done for Tottenham since his appointment as manager in 2014, support for the 46-year-old is almost universal amongst the club’s support.

However, there are dissenters within the crowds, including Spurs fans Charlie, who joined talkSPORT on Tuesday morning to express his belief that Pochettino should leave!

“I’m just not a big MoPo (sic) fan at Tottenham,” Charlie told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“I think we reached our peak with him a couple of years ago when we lost out to Leicester, and I think since then we’ve gone backwards.

“Our style of football is not as attractive as it once was, and we don’t have the energy or enthusiasm we once had.

“Actually I think it would be good for Tottenham for him to go.

“He doesn’t have a plan B, I think he’s very arrogant, and he’s unproven.

“If he goes to Real Madrid he’ll get a bumper paycheck but he’ll be gone within two or three years.”

Asked who should replace Pochettino if he does depart north London, Charlie named another Premier League manager.

“I would take Eddie Howe if I’m honest with you,” he responded. “I’ve always been an admirer of Eddie Howe and I think he plays the type of football that is synonymous with Tottenham over the years.

“I genuinely think if he had the likes of Harry Kane, [Erik] Lamela and [Christian] Eriksen at his disposal we would be competing at a higher level.”

What crap lol, we actually played our best football the season after we lost out to Leicester when we were playing 3-4-2-1 with Wanyama a beast in the middle and we were caning teams the end of that season with Kane scoring video-game level of goals.

Best period I’ve ever experienced as a fan.

He's a peak Talksport caller. He probably hates Poch because of the Falklands and starts wearing poppies from Easter.

It was like when you play fifa / pro evo and win games by 6 or 7 goals constantly with Kans scoring 3 or 4 goals every game!

Utterly insane, I remember when we were absolutely smashing Leicester and Hull during those last few games of the season.
