Buying out a contract isn't paying out the player's or manager's remaining wages. It's the buying club paying the selling club to terminate it's contract with the player or manager. Barcelona didn't owe Neymar 200m in wages when PSG bought him.

The numbers are related, because they both reflect the value of the employee to the company. But nothing obligates either team to accept the remaining wages as the transfer fee.
No because PSG paid the release clause in neymar contract meaning his contract become void.

Poch doesn’t have a release clause so the new club have to pay up the remainder of his contract

There's more to it than that mate.
His remaining wages don't really come into it.
We effectively own his working life for the remainder of his contract, they have to offer Levy enough money to make it worth our while to terminate his contract early.

The point I was addressing is Poch saying fans should have more belief in him and the club. I say Poch has on several occasions publicly vented about funds available so it seems disingenuous to me to effectively have a pop at the fans when they take their lead from the manager. If he can be frustrated, why can’t the fans?

Every managers decision whatever it is will be questioned by someone. But was there really a massive swell of disapproval for Davies at CB bearing in mind we know Dier, Sanchez and Jan were injured, he’s played there for us before and regularly for Wales? And Gazzaniga is great but isn’t being disappointed in him as a big signing just repeating back Poch’s frustrations?

I love me some Poch and if he stays, fucks off Utd and Real, incredible. But I think he’s off on this one. Seems to be creating a “I can’t please these fans” narrative that just seems completely not there

To be honest I'm with Poch on this one, we do need more faith. I don't see it as an attack on the fans per se. He's blaming the negative slant the media takes, and the stick we constantly get from other fans influencing us. The club has transformed in recent years, the squad and facilities are now top drawer, we need to start showing a bit more confidence.

The whole club taking a siege mentality of 'we know we are quality, and we are here to stay, regardless of what you say' could be the last piece of the puzzle from us. To be honest I'm kind of seeing that from our players recently, look at Dele and Son's celebrations this week for example.

Our negativity/pessimism is understandable due to the last 10-20 years, but we need to try and move on from that and accept this is a different Spurs, just like the media need to accept we are the real deal now.

He has made some good points, this season looked like an absolute clusterf*** from the start, and despite all of that, and numerous injuries, it's been a very strong start to the season. Moussa Sissoko has transformed, Gazzaniga looks very impressive, Moura and Lamela contributing, and like he said Foyth and Davies chipping in at CB. I've certainly accepted that I need to show some faith in our coaches and players.

I actually believe the way we've turned this season around has renewed Poch's vigour for the job, along with the stadium.

Also him calling out the media on the negative slant they usually take on us is long overdue. They don't show us enough respect on the whole.

We need to have some faith in the club, and in Poch carrying on with us and rejecting Man Utd.

He’s basically saying what you have in your last sentence and he alluded to it numerous times in the last week. The fans need to have faith in him. These newest comments give me even more conviction that he’s not entertaining the Man Utd job.

I thought there was a new law that you could do exactly that, pay off the remaining wages to release someone from their contract.

However, everyone in football made a "gentlemen's agreement" to never do that as it'd cause chaos.
I think that was a player only issue after a courtcase over freedom of movement. It was labelled the new Bosman and was going to kill the little guy, but as you said clubs agreed that they wouldn't use it.

It was the Webster ruling meaning players can buy out their own contract. (obviously this could abused by being paid by a buying club which is what they agreed against)

Totally agree, there's been a lot of this kind of talk from him recently, I think he realises we are getting close and wants to do it here. That's ambition right there.

The press guy shushing questions makes me suspect Poch's head might have been turned a little.
No mate he's shushing questions because he doesn't want our press conferences dominated by man u questions. We did exactly the same last season regarding Real Madrid questions as per my link below. As poch said I think you need to be a bit more positive and stop listening to the media.

I think they are just trying to make the clubs position clear from the off, otherwise every presser for the next 6 months is going to be the same shit (it will be anyway, but at least they are trying).

It is true that lots of fans lambasted Poch for his tactical nouse or lack of it, against Arsenal a few weeks ago and pointed out how much better Emery was and yet this week Emery was completely clueless about how to overcome Poch's tactics, as I see it Poch had worked it out and showed how to play them.
It's very rare that a side that is successful against us is successful twice.

How about we all stop talking about it. It's boring and negative - you're all adding to the sky and media agenda
Agenda?
That is just Rawky.

If Poch was at any other club and was the favourite to be next Utd manager, the media frenzy would be exactly the same.
It's a Spurs forum, this discussion is inevitable.

Wait for when Barca, Bayern and Madrid come calling for Klopp and watch his logic. Carra is just another one of those on who have put a ceiling on what Poch can achieve on spurs. Yes United are a bigger club but going to a bigger club doesn't mean you have bigger ambitions because achieving something with Spurs is arguably more ambitious. Also Poch is 46, he isn't 64 and as the last 7 years have shown these Madrid and United jobs, hell even PSG come around quite often.

For what it's worth he's right that Poch owes us nothing and should he go, I will not begrudge the man.

It's worth bearing in mind that United's net debt has increased by a couple of 100 million in the last few seasons as they have overspent to try to get back to the top.

They will not want to carry this trend on which is why I believe they have employed Mitchell and want Poch to try to work within their budget.

Now, whilst United's budget may still be bigger than ours, Poch's biggest reason for leaving would be a blank cheque book. If this is no longer available then the job has very little upside.
