To say 20 years shows he and levy are on the same wavelength but they are allowed differences.

"It’s amazing. That is why it’s a little bit sad the way he finished in his club. But it shows a little bit how difficult it is, this business. For us it’s not a business, football is a passion, but all that Arsene Wenger gave for Arsenal, to finish in the way he finished, yes, it was a little bit, completely, unfair.

"I think he deserves, an amazing recognition about his work. Only I hope, if I have one day the opportunity to talk with him, to ask if ‘was it worth it to do?’ I don’t know what he would say, I would like to ask one day."

Wenger, do the right thing and tell him that it was fucking worth it!

I think a lot can be read into his quotes about Wenger that a lot of people aren't even foucsing on.

Poch will not only demand respect from his employers and players but from the fans too.

You know that even this will be spun to suit the narrative:

"Pochettino wants to spend 20 years at Tottenham and end his career at the North London club ... after a stint at Manchester United."

Actual headline, "poch hints at exit".

Just try and relax and enjoyed the ride. I'm pretty confident that Poch will be around for a while yet providing we remain on the same progressive arc. Any comments can be interpreted a number of ways dependant on your bias and mindset. My brother read the same quotes and believes Poch is saying that he loves the theory behind staying for 20 years but, looking at what happened to Wenger, it may not be a good idea or sustainable. Just depends on your bias. My brother is an Arsenal fan!

It seems to me that Poch has placed himself in the perfect position. If he doesn't get the investment he wants in the squad then he walks and saves face. If he does then he intends to stay for 20 years and build a legacy. I truly believe he wants the second option but whether or not he gets the support and backing he needs is the 64,000 dollar question.

Completely agree it's a clever strategy.

I think investment is one thing he is looking for but the Wenger analogy is interesting as he had input into all areas of the club and really pushed a culture. Maybe Poch was also saying that if he makes a decision that the hierarchy arent sure on then trust and back him anyway in the future.

Happy New year SSN, Sunday Supplement, Gary Neville and all the other Manc obsessed feckwit pigswillies.

The man...he want 20 years at Spurs.

So please can we have a 48 hr media frenzy shouting from the rooftops in celebration that Poch wants 20 years.

This is news...right.

So let's see the reporting of it akin to the Poch to United jizz festival.

If you don’t like personal stuff then can I suggest you moderate your posts. I don’t come on here to get personal, I have strong views and am totally happy to debate with respect to those who show me the same.
So debate it then. If you have a problem with something I say then let me know. Otherwise, let's talk about what is going on with the club. I see no value in just regurgitating the same story line over and over again.

In the recent press conference Poch gave us a little insight into the objectives of the club. It was probably quite obvious that the short-term objective would have been to have CL in the new stadium. It seems that a concerted effort to push for trophies is in the plans once the stadium is open.

I think that if you listen to what Poch is saying with the mindset that he's fighting the Spurs board then you will always end up hearing what you want. Likewise, if you listen thinking only about the positives then you can cherry pick a few words to make things look fine. My point is that Poch is responding to press questions in these things... it's not a message to the board, it's to the fans and media, despite that comment from JJ in my opinion.

Poch's in a tough place. He's been hired to get us into the CL in the new stadium but the press are constantly on him for not winning silverware yet. I think that his latest comments are basically explaining that it's incredibly tough to win trophies with our current spending but he isn't under pressure himself because his job isn't to deliver that just at this moment. That would seem to tie in with the comments about him getting fired if he had won the Carabao but not got CL... even though that was a bit more tongue-in-cheek. To some extent it ties in with this 20-year thing too.

Football is a weird environment at the moment. We get a 20 minute Q&A from the manager every few days which is reported in various ways by the media and then has further "expert analysis" from the likes of Paul Merson and Craig Bellamy. It's a funny way to share the information but that's what we've got. But behind the scenes there are professional and serious people working together on the short, medium and long term stuff. It's important (I think) to be able to step back from the media circus and avoid being sucked in to the sensationalism of it all.

I know you don't fully expect the media to report much on this, it doesnt fit their narrative.

Poch to stay at Spurs for 20 years = Sssshhhhhhhhh
Poch wants to go to Utd for 20 years = Total media spunkfest

We are the perfect club for him and he is the perfect club for us at this stage. The pressure on him to win a trophy is ridiculous and I wouldn't think he would enjoy the pressure that comes with joining real Madrid or United becsuse he would be given huge amounts to spend. But the bottom line is he will compete with city and Liverpool or Barcelona for the league. With us there is obviously pressure but due to the restraints he seems comfortably.

But there will come a time very soon that Levy will have to find some cash for him to spend to match teams like evertons spending at the very minimum.

He knows we are 2 quality central midfielders away from being genuine contenders without having the pressures of pep and klopp to win it

Poch - PL and CL are more important than the FA Cup - criticised, needs to win trophies

Klopp bombs out of the FA Cup (also trophyless in England) - understandable, PL and CL are more important. (same journos/pundits)

Which makes a mockery out of him being the man to take over at United without a trophy ... Said at the time they have basically pushed themselves down a dead-end with their rhetoric and reporting. It's pretty glorious.

I agree, only point that should be added is that Klopp has proved already that he can win leagues and get to CL finals. So you can half forgive the journalists.

Pure jest on my part. I actually find the media pretty funny in the most part. As long as they are not derogatory to the club, I couldn't really give a flying feck if they like us or not.

They make themselves look like arseholes on a whole range of topics, why should football escape scot-free.

This is the quote that spells it all out nice and clearly to Levy:

"I saw a stat that in the last 10 years we were bottom of the spending list in Europe. We are doing a fantastic job but if we want to be real contenders we need to operate in a different way in the future."

I find it interesting. Talksport for example in their 'big 3 headlines' focused on Poch's 'need to change how we operate' line, minus the 'over the next 5 years, today is fantastic' part of course. Zero mention of the 20 years on my 25 min drive in. (I actually tuned in on purpose today just to see how they dealt with Liverpool and Poch's quotes, stopped listening regular months ago).

It's a fair way down the list of articles on Sky Sports too, whereas the earlier stuff that could be spun was top news earlier in the day.

I don't think there's a malicious agenda at all, they just have their favourites, Utd and Pool, who generate the most clicks/views/revenue.

I agree, only point that should be added is that Klopp has proved already that he can win leagues and get to CL finals. So you can half forgive the journalists.

To be honest I agree with Poch and also think Klopp probably did the right thing, just laugh at how both get perceived in the media.
