Is that the arseholes who had made their mind up about AVB before his first game in charge, will be giving it the 'told you so'

They'll probably do the same with the next boss.

Please support the new guy, we are hugely influential on the success of the team.

But we're not. We're just there to support whatever team the boss puts out - if that doesn't achieve anything, we can only cheer so loud, we've proven that under most of our managers since the 90s.

Our opinions, attitude, expectations - they all basically mean nothing to the manager, it's his job to achieve regardless of what we want.

Really? I would have supported AVB more if I had more confidence in his sales and purchases.

When he sold VDV I was mortified. It left us with only Bale as a match winner.

When we had Harry, at least when he started, 90% of fans would look at his team sheet and roughly agree. When he bought in players, they were Harry style signings, but at least you could tell why they were there.

Is Pauline actually any better than Jenas?!

Is loaning out BAE wise?

Freezing out Ade?

I would have respected the guy 100% if he had made any sense from day one. By selling VDV I was instantly worried.

If it turns out that AVB didn't have a say in any of the transfers would you have more respect for him? He wanted Moutinho, Hulk and Contrao as far as I know

I wouldn't actually, no. Any manager in any organisation, whether it's a Car dealership, IT outsourced or football club needs realistic objectives, and reasonable resources to do it particularly in a sales or results oriented business. If the manager disagrees with their director in terms of what is possible or what is required to achieve it, they're most likely to either fail because they were right in that they needed more, or because they are demotivated...

If you don't agree with what's expected of you or with your resources, have the self respect to leave before you fail, don't get into a strop.

Did you see the excerpt from
Yesterday's press conference where AVB implies he wasn't happy with the squad?

Ideas and ego above his station. Maybe after 10 years proving himself as a consistent top manager, he might have been able to go to a non CL club and sign top stars. They would have believed he would have them in the CL, I doubt people took AVB seriously. Possibly why he wanted a DOF with clout.

Same thing is already happening with Sherwood. Absolutely no evidence of his coaching skill either way but some don't like him.

Very few people "made up their mind before the first game" it was something that built over time but if believing it was the fans fault, whatever makes you happy I guess.

I think it's more that people are concerned because he's not proven and also the fact that he was a poor footballer. We don't know anything about his coaching whatsoever and so can't judge him. People are scared because for some reason they think he's our new manager, or will get the job. But guess what people; He's not our appointed manager! At least not right now. So relax!

The most annoying thing is 2 years ago we could of put out a midfield of,

VDV
Bale Modric Parker Lennon

I mean jesus, look at that!!!!

We've definitely gone backwards, it's not just the manager, it's Levy and everyone else involved in the club.

I just hope at least a few lessons have been learnt. And with that said I still have hope that Sherwood could be the answer to having some sort of functioning relationship between the board and the team... You never know.

Didn't Rafa want to leave though? Issues to do with his marriage right?

Is someone suggesting it was AVB who sold Modric, VDV and Bale? im pretty sure all 3 decided they wanted to leave on their own

I don't know if Rafa wanted to leave.

I do know that I still miss him.

Every day.

Me too. I think age and circumstances had caught up with him, so sold at the right time. But that is exactly the kind of experience, passion, status and leadership that we are missing. For a couple of seasons, he was our Stevie G equivalent. He wasn't just a match winner in his own right, he actually made the players around him look good.

If DL or Baldini would like to go out in January and scoop us another VdV, I'd be a happy camper.

I hate to say it, but...

In all seriousness, I backed AVB's appointment as I too was taken in by this 'philosophy' he was supposed to have. I put this down to making the mistake of listening to some of the people on here who watch too much Portuguese league football, because he was shocking at Chelsea.

It became apparent to me last year that, despite most people's assertions, we didn't actually look any better than we did under Harry. Yes, we'd lost key players, but I felt some other key players went backwards under AVB (Ade, BAE, Walker, even Sigurdsson and Dempsey who were influential for their clubs the previous year). The 'one man team' stuff other fans and the media kept throwing at us was becoming more and more indefensible.

I think by the 5th or 6th game when I felt we were actually getting worse, rather than better with all the new players, that's when it started to click for me that this guy had not actually improved us at all during his whole tenure and had dragged established players down. The most annoying thing as you like to put it, is being called a wanker, a wum, a non-supporter, a prick and being tld to jog on after voicing this.

The moral of the story is, don't listen to footballing anoraks on SC who claim to watch the Swiss, Portuguese and French leagues. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Moutinho is the only one of them that we would have had a chance of getting and from what we know Porto fucked about. Hulk??? HAHAHAHA not a chance in hell we could of paid him what he wanted, Coentrao as far as we have heard wasn't intrested.

I was a Harry fan but when AVB was appointe I got behind him, I seen what he done at Porto and bought into the porject he had. Even at the start of this season I agreed we needed tiem to gel but game after game I seen the same slow predictable play with no sign of improvment. I said when AVB was appointed that I hoped he had another plan other than plan FC Porto it seems he didn't. There is no reason why the players we have cannot play direct fast football, for some reason it just didnt happen. Anyway we have have a good squad, I want a coach/ manager that knows how to play more than one way and adapt to the tools he has.
