While I totally agree, how many of the clubs are "1 player short" at the same position for years on end? For instance, us looking for a striker.

I thnk it is similar at Utd where fans go on about how Fergie has forgot what a Center midfielder is. To be fair Cleverly is always improving but if it wasn't for Scholes coming out of retirement last yr they wouldn't have lost only on goal difference, would have been a fair margin. Having RVP and Rooney (when fit)is papering over the cracks and the serious lack of a midfield at Utd.

Remy to Newcastle for £8.3m?

Thought he'd cost more than that.

We're 1 or 2 away from pretty much guarenteeing we'll finish top 4, then we'd be 1 or 2 away from challenging for the title

Seems to me like levy and co are hoping that, in 3 or 4 years/whenever the new stadium is done and we can supposedly afford to spend more, that bale/verts/lloris will still be here. Risky...

Eh, I honestly think that if we had a healthy side (BAE/Kaboul) we would be in a better situation right now. We've already locked up Holtby who is the picture-perfect fit for in the hole if/when he gets acclimated to the PL. If we add a striker, I think we are a completely balanced side. Most clubs in the PL can't boast our balance from defense to attack, especially if we added a true CF.

It's just my view on things and I think we realistically are 1 player (True CF) away from being relevant at the top of the PL.

£8.3m for Remy? Most of you aren't fans but i'd definitely take him for that, great signing for Newcastle.

Remy denied going to Newcastle earlier in the window, saying he didn't want to go there. But, it sounds like they finally got him. Transfers take time, and I think many of you are expecting us to be linked to a player and immediately sign them. We are not buying/selling a product, we are negotiating a move of a person. This person's life gets uprooted and moved elsewhere. It is not as simple as agreeing a fee, paying over paypal and waiting for your product in the mail. There are also proud club owners and managers who don't want to sell, but will sell for a certain price. There is no "meeting in the middle" as many of you suggest. Did we meet in the middle with berbatov or modric? No, we set a rridiculous price and waited for an offer to come up to what we felt was comfortable. Other clubs are no different. I think this is truly a large reason as to why we do so many last minute deals. We offer cash, get told no, then go back to the club under the pressure of a time limit with Levy grinning and saying "now or never." It does backfire for us a lot, but it has gotten us some quality signings. Even to say it backfires is a little much, as if we could have agreed a proper fee for any player before the deadline, im sure a deal would occur. Were it not for deadline pressure, i doubt we would have recieved half of those players. Finally, I think Levy very clearly understands the striker situation. All you have to do is look at what the move of RVP from Arsenal to United has done to both squads. United have the 4th best squad in our league, imo. I think we are third best behind City and Chelsea. Im sure Levy, just as everyone, thought Adebayor would be nearly as prolific as last year, but that hasn't panned out. Im sure Levy is attempting to find a solution, but will not overpay. This is the right decision. As soon as you overpay, your club becomes dependent upon flashing money, and not negotiating and using the club as an attraction. Its a dark road that city, chelsea and many other clubs have walked down. They have the money though, and we dont. Levy's strong negotiating is strongly why we are up at the top of the table and not down mid-table with clubs of similar financial limits. So if and when Levy tries to revisit this issue, it will not happen over night. P.S. Apologies for the bulked, ranted text, this was on my cell.

It's a good fee that's for sure. I remember when we were first linked it was said he would cost about €18m! Really strong signing and exactly what they need. Thing is with Newcastle is they have a great first 11 but a shit squad. Players like Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse, Ba (I know he has left), Ben Arfa,Krul etc could do a job at almost any team in the league.

So Newcastle have added Debuchy and Remy as of now. And, they are looking at one of our potential targets in Sissoko as well. That'd be a very nice window for them.

I'm still holding out hope we get Sissoko with the loan of Livermore and what appears to be the sale of Huddlestone.

He should look at modric who, while he has played fairly well, he hasnt managed to step up his game quite as yet to the level he needs to. Bale would have the same problem.

When Bale goes the only thing he will be looking at will be his bank balance.

But it's clear that there are issues with us seemingly trying to recruit new players each window with the farce of trying to chase players we have no intention of getting/paying the money for leandro, moutiniho, fabiano to name a few.

You really need to understand Levy's mindset during the January transfer window. We are currently sitting in third/fourth place (as we were last season, the season before and possibly the season before that). By adding a forward in January or a midfielder are we more likely to win the PL?

If not then why pay millions more in January only to finish where we currently are? Why not wait until the end of the season when more players will become available and perhaps at a cheaper price because of the number available?

Levy has only once shelled out big money in January and that's when were were in the shit and Redknapp was appointed. Sitting fourth, and in the knockout stages of the EL and early rounds of the FA Cup is a lot different than sitting bottom with two points from eight games.

I should have added and so on but someone distracted me, what I meant was every team could always do with 1 or 2 more

I agree with what you say, but must point out that those in the innovation business have a counter-saying: "if it ain't broke, break it!"

This also got a 'dumb' rating from someone who has never posted on this site.
What I stated is a simple fact - not an indictment of Spurs or anyone at the club. Understand Lincspurs?
