The London section of the closing ceremony hasn't even finished I'm thinking WTF is this shit?!?

I decided the only decent thing to do was to change the channel and watch the last of the european grand prix

I wish I'd done that. This is car crash television. The most popular section was when Beckham appeared. The scramble by the athlete's and volunteers to get the football was funny.

Is there any lines in that song that isn't Beijing, Beijing, I love Beijing?

What do you think the chances are that the people we are seeing are the actual singers this time?

Also, when did Beijing stop being Peking?

WOW! The top of a London bus coming apart, that will bring back memories for some........a group of 1960s abstract dancers, i thought maybe Andy Williams might be on the bus with Petula Clark, a duet of "Born Free" is needed to wind the Chinese government up!
But no! Its 'Britain's got Talent', no, its erm, X-Factor...no hold on its, fucking confusing or confuscious, Leona Lewis......mmmm, i didn't know she was THAT tall, she looks scared and uncomfortable up there, Jimmy Page...(With more than a slight resemblance to an old Chinese rocker) sweating a bit after just one song, David Beckham, with a ball, he kicks it, it gets picked up by some Chinese geezer, (you've lost your ball Dave, you wont get that back mate!)
I turn to see what happens next.....and it is over, its gone......fuck it..I've missed the last bus home........see you all in 2012, don't be late!

For the opening ceremony at 2012 they have got to play Queen. We will rock you is the ideal song to get the crowd going. Sod the artistic imagery just have a pyro show with the likes of the Who, the Rolling Stones, etc.

I was thinking the same while watching it.

We wont get close to what China have done, so why not do something that the olympics has never had before and something we are good at.

just hope the bus isn't an indication of what we will do

Exactly. We can't match China simply because we don't have a bottomless pit of cash to chuck at the event. Also most of the people at the opening ceremony are going to be young so it should be more of a concert, a bit like the Super Bowl half time show. We've given the world the Beatles, the Who, Stones, Jimi Hendrix, the Clash, etc., so it's best we play to that.
Unfortunately that idea is too sensible so they won't do it. I can see a repeat of the Euro '96 opening ceremony on the cards and the embarrassment that went along with it.

London Mayor Boris Johnson has criticised the use of a portrait of murderer Myra Hindley in a video shown at a London 2012 event in Beijing.
The image was shown during a promotional video produced by Visit London, not the 2012 organisers.

A spokesman for the London Mayor told BBC News Boris Johnson was "deeply disturbed" the image had been shown.

A Downing Street spokesman said the use of the image had been "in extremely poor taste."

The Liberal Democrats said it was a "regrettable choice".

The party's Olympics spokesman Tom Brake MP said: "Of all the many masterpieces that could could have been used this was the most regrettable and the least inspired choice."

The painting, by Marcus Harvey is made from children's handprints and was vandalised while on display in the Royal Academy in 1997.

It was seen during a video to promote the capital's culture ahead of the 2012 games.

:eh: What idiot at Visit London thought that was a good idea?
