You haven't been following Spurs for long enough, Tottenham boo boys have been around for a long time ,
always love the John Pratt Billy Nick quote

I had been getting it in the neck a bit from some of the sections of the crowd at Spurs but Bill expected his players to be men, and he said that the crowd paid our wages and were entitled to have their opinions. So one day, before I was due to play my first game at Old Trafford, I asked him what I could expect. He replied that it would just be like playing at Spurs, except that up there 55,000 people would hate me, whereas at Spurs it was only 45,000!

— John Pratt

Its was quite common to hear a slow hand clap in late sixties and seventies at the Lane plus later at WHL under George the boo boys at work . And don't forget Conte's first home game boos at half time mainly from the south stand.

I wouldn’t personally say it’s as simple as some boo’s or not boo’s.

I was there during the GG era and that wasn’t a great atmosphere because he was an ex-gooner it was bordering on toxic yes but it somehow felt different to how it does now.

Id actually be really interested to get perspectives of the different age groups, for example how do the older generation fans feel the ones who have seen our success in the 60’s-91 and then also how do the younger newer fans feel who haven’t been through the tough 90’s and building up 00’s.

Of course every single individual fan will have a different perspective regardless of age but I wonder if there is a pattern and certain age groups are more worn down than others or if right now there is just a big collective feeling that the last 3 years of shite football and bad football decisions following from poch have worn people down and the lack of a clear exciting direction as well as the new stadium being bigger and much more ‘corporate’ maybe some of the fun of supporting Spurs has been sucked away a bit.

I think quite simply if we had a manager who played a possession attacking high energy style of football and hired players to fit that style and we could see an exciting project to get behind and we had a team which you knew would attack and be brave and try and dominate and win games then the crowd would slowly feel more positive again, there would be more songs and it would all be a snowball effect building back to a positive atmosphere and match day going experience as there is no reason why the beautiful shiny new stadium can’t be an electric exciting place to go and watch our team play but right now the fun and soul has been sucked out of the club.

The uncertainty around contes future with us and perhaps kanes also won’t be helping, I think a lot of fans feel like we are a ship out at sea in a storm with a captain we don’t like or trust (Levy) a manager who we don’t know if he wants to stay or not and who at times can be quite cold (Conte), it feels like we are a lost boat with no one who we can trust to read a map and even if they could we can’t agree on which direction to sail anyway so it causes this build up of frustration and actually a sense of just giving up, I heard from my dad and sister and mates who went yesterday that as soon as we went a goal down the crowd just basically gave up supporting the team as the performance was just all too familiar and there was nothing to give them hope that the rest of the match would be any different.

I have seen spurs win, 3 fa cups, 3 league cups and eufa cup, been a season ticket holder since 1981.
I don't think the 90s were that bad, we won 2 trophies, lost a few semi finals. The big change was the rise of the CL and younger fans obsession with the Cl and being in the competition , also Arsenal dominance and until Jol turned up.
This is a unpopular opinion, I also liked GG he was the man that broke Liverpool, we would have of won the semi against Arsenal at old Trafford with the Anti-Christ in charge.

What stadium is rocking when the team is playing crap ?
Spot on, wasn't that long ago that Arsenal fans were calling for the sacking of Arteta and getting rid of Xhaka.
Then there was the Newcastle mass protests and boycotts of games, now they are in top 4 everything is rosy.
Man U fans breaking into Old Trafford causing Liverpool game to be postponed , once again in top 4 everything is rosy again until they start losing a few games.
In the unlikely event that we go to Man City on Thursday and win all will be well again until the next defeat.

Football fans are just a fickle bunch , as Paul Coyte keeps saying support the team .

I'm glad I don't have to endure going to games these days. It's often as much as I can bear to watch on TV, and against the Gooners I got so fucked off with it that I got the vacuum cleaner out and hoovered the lounge (not least to drown out Gary fucking Neville). Was more enjoyable than watching the inevitable capitulation and it made Mrs J happy too.

For a stadium to be intimidating to away teams, it needs to be hostile. That is different to just having good atmosphere.

Absolutely. All this fawning over Arsenal, and sure, their fans might be full of it now, but the atmosphere in their stadium has always been notoriously shit. It’s very easy to be loud when your team are playing well but you could hear a pin drop at the Emirates before. It wasn’t too long ago the stadium was massively under capacity for most matches and they were fudging the reporting of their attendances.

You can definitely argue that fans should get behind the team when they’re not playing well but when you watching absolute shit week after week it does become hard to be positive and inspirational.

Also, I did feel sorry for Crouchy yesterday. I’ve got a lot of time for him but getting wheeled out at out half-time when we’re 2-0 down to that lot is a tough gig ?

Exactly this. I don’t want some contrived sing song crowd when we’re getting comfortably beaten. Palace the other week were 4 goals down and they had their little ultras section all jumping around singing. It’s cringey in my opinion. The team should feed the crowd and the crowd should feed the players, it should be natural. Last season the NLD was electric in terms of atmosphere because of our performance. Right now we’re playing so shit this concept the crowd should be loud would be totally fake.
Not sure why the fans who pay thousands to watch us would be called out anyway, it’s a bit pathetic considering how poorly the players, manager and owners have been this season.

Wind back to the end of last season when we created an atmosphere so electric that pundits were saying the fans brutalised Arsenal.

The problem isn’t the stadium or the fans inside it. The problem is the uninspiring low intensity approach to games esp in first half. It’s now so bad that we expect first halves to be crap and nobody is surprised.

As for whimsical memories of years gone by at the lane, it was never a fortress bar one (final) season. There’s a reason it was called 3pt lane by opponents and I went to enough flat games there to actually remember it not just the rose tinted version people want to reach for.

What does not help at the new ground in especially the South Stand is people giving you a weird look when you start chants and people moaning about standing. I have no idea why people buy tickets in that stand if they want to sit down in silence.

Like most, I felt so empty and even more disconnected after the NLD. I sat in my seat, in block 501, 15 mins after the game finished thinking where is this club going. Bumped into a guy called Tom outside, he’s a South Stand ST from Walthamstow, who said 5 who sat by him no longer go. I honestly cannot look at anyone other than the board for this mess. I don’t have an agenda, I just want to see us have an identity, a consistent one from board level, youth academy and first team. I don’t have the answers of whether this will happen or not. Forgive the rant, I just want our fan base to unite, put agendas, likes and social media reactions aside. We need to start being nicer to each other and direct our disgust at those who continually put profit & property before glory on the pitch.

I said that and got told off…..it’s just not enjoyable anymore! But i am still going to go. Been going for too long, would miss it

would be interested to know where people are and if they changed seats whether that has made a difference

If the players only play for 45 mins every game then shouldn't we get a 50% season ticket refund?

Our team needs to be hostile let alone the stadium. A hostile crowd is not going to make up for a team willing to conceded possession up to the last third (and even then a tepid defence of that last third, happy to let opposition shoot at will from there).
