All this talk about Messi, C. Ronaldo, Neymar, Bale ...

They don't even come close to how good the real Ronaldo was in his prime. His reputation has somewhat been tarnished by his post playing day eating habits, but that shouldn't overshadow how good he actually was.

Has there ever been a better finisher? someone with as much composure, power, flair, technique and agility in front of goal? I don't think so.

Some of the goals he scores in that video are just ridiculous.

Van Basten was the best finisher I've ever seen but he didn't have the power that Ronaldo had.

The players i have enjoyed most watching in their heyday was Zidane (although now works with scum...) and Kaka; Used to glide through matches and things came so easy to them With real off the cuff moments of flair not pre meditated stuff most "greats" do today, and no tricks for the sake of tricks. (my biggest bug bear being the look the other way pass/shot, whoever thinks this is skill has strange ideas)

Also now Iniesta is my fav player to watch.

I agree Ronaldo was the best all round CF I've ever seen. I don't think you can compare him to Messi or Christian Ronaldo though as they contribute more all over the pitch, not just with the goals they score.

Loved watching Zidane in his prime too ( don't like the **** anymore though).

Think I started a thread about him last year. My favourite player of all time.

I must have missed that one. I'd definitely put him in my top three favourite players i've seen in my lifetime.

He was a proper striker, the kind you don't tend to find in the modern game. None of this Attacking midfielder bollocks.

Unstoppable at his peak, a monster even after the injuries and always brilliant.

That video is mad and if you didn't know better you'd say you were watching a computer game.

Another video showing his dribbling skill. His tendency to leave both defenders and goalkeepers on their arses was incredible. Also the amount of times defenders hack at his legs and he manages to stay on his feet :notworthy:

Best strikers I have ever seen were Greaves, Gert Muller, Romario and Ronaldo. Ronaldo was totally unique and unstoppable in his prime

His composure, footwork and dribbling ability at speed is probably the best I have seen. Then to go with that was an absolutely lethal finisher off either foot.

Definitely the best out and out striker I have seen play.

I love that Cantona ad about him:"The phenomenon..the boy wonder.."
Absolutely stunning player..a phenomenon..a force of nature.
In my opinion (and I realize many won't agree) at his peak he was beyond what Zidane or even Messi were/are. (I also reckon Maradona was better than Messi..call me old fashioned..anyway that's another thread). I remember the Madrid-United hat trick match well..he was one of those players where you just felt 'if he is on song today, there's very little can be done..' He's way way ahead of Cristiano for me pure talent wise.

Can we have a Rivaldo thread too sometime? He's another awesome player who has been kinda forgotten a bit. (yeah yeah, the playacting vs Turkey was bad..but who cares..)

Amazing player. I am sure I have said it before on here but the season with Barca when he broke the then goal scoring club record was the one of most complete striking performance over a season that I can remember. Take into account he was only 20 at the time only adds the achievement in my opinion. I remember reading an article during his time at Inter where he said he tried to take the shot as early as possible to so that the keeper wasn't able to set themselves and was unable to the cut down the angle.

I remember bobby Robson said one time that if you gave him the ball in the oppositions half 3 times he would score twice. Not a bad reference by anyone's standards!
