Last season I wrote an article on the relegated clubs and the mistakes they made to get into their situation.

This season it seems like the relegated made much less mistakes.

Portsmouth really messed themselves up financially and I still don't really understand how they got into such a huge mess. The importance of living within your means is one again highlighted.

Burnley and Hull though were always on their way out. Coyle leaving didn't help but they were already on a downward spiral anyway and Hull had done well to stay in the Prem as long as they did.

West Ham have some serious sorting out to do or they could find themselves in a deep mess but they did enough to survive.

It'll be interesting to see how the promoted clubs Newcastle, West Brom and one other cope. They have the fan base and they need to inspire them to turn up all the time. This season has been a very dull relegation battle and the first time in living memory where it was already settled before the final day who was dropping out of the league.

Newcastle will do ok next season I think. They're a better team than they were last season. West Brom are so up and down between the PL and the Championship. They need to take a leaf out of Birmingham's book, and be tighter at the back than previous years.
