I don't follow domestic rugby, I'm on of those fans that tunes in to internationals only.

but what on earth is this rule where you can't play for england if you don't play in England? i notice Arundell is now unavailable as he's signed for a french side. is that not just self harm by england? how many players are we missing out on, or is not really an issue?

I believe the rule is implemented to help try and keep the best English players to maintain a better standard of rugby within the English leagues. I think Australia and New Zealand have similar rules (not sure about other countries).

thanks.

Seems like it'll hinder the national team considering the domestic league is going to pot financially!

The problem is that Rugby isn't in good shape financially with big teams like Wasps going to the wall. Professional players want to safe guard their careers and will go where the money is regardless of England policy, and that will further weaken the appeal to fans.

wtf

Well that’s a bolt out of the blue, really shocked to hear that and I bet Gatland won’t be too chuffed either!
Does make you wonder though if it might give other players ideas about moving, I’d be surprised if Farrell hasn’t thought about it.

Not sure Farrell's got the skill set, has he?

Farrell's too old!! Though it would suit his tackling style!

Would have thought he'd have been in with a shout of making the Lions squad so a huge decision to make.
This was deemed funny by E17 which means

A) he thinks LRZ was guaranteed to get in the Lions squad (hit like)

B) he's now shit and wouldn't get near the Lions squad (hit agree)

C) NFL is much better than rugby therefore it was an easy decision to make (hit heart)

An NFL roster is 53 players and each team gets a practice squad of 16 players. However, any player from the NFL International Pathway program doesn't count against your 16 players so they effectively count as a "free" practice squad spot. An NFL Practice squad player makes $225,000 per year. If you make the actual roster the minimum is $750,000 per year.

I'm not sure what he made in Rugby but those numbers perhaps made an impact in his decision.

I don't know what E17 means but I think he'd have been pretty much a shoo-in for the squad and I'd have him in my starting XV now. Don't know about 2025; much can happen.

Thanks for that, in his case it quite clearly isn’t about the money as when you combine club and international salaries along with endorsements he’s going to be on a similar wage, unless he does the roster then he’ll surpass it quite considerably.
Quite clearly a case of him doing what he wants to do so good luck to the lad!

I thought the WC was Marler and Care’s last hurrah, really surprised they’ve made themselves available, likewise Cole!

I'm assuming - and hoping - that Borthwick wants them to pass on their experience to up and coming players rather than continuing to keep them out of the team. The sooner that happens the better, I think.
