I think people are getting a bit too tied up in this Underhand/ Overhand thing. The text pasted in the OP is 2nd hand info at best, it's not the point whether it was underhand or overhand ... the point is that he (according to this version of events) had it thrown next to him, and wanted to shift it away. Whether he under or overhanded it away is pretty moot really. He may have said underhanded when he overhanded it thinking it would sound slightly more benign, his mate may have paraphrased when writing the article, his mate may have simply created that turn of phrase. Whatever the case of the underhand/ overhand it's just a small detail I wouldn't get too hung up over tbh
