Onomah having a poor game so far wouldn't suprise me if he is pulled at half time.

His passing is responsible for sprinting England's best attacks/counters.

He has only made one glaring error where the defence got themselves into an awkward situation. He tried to take responsibility and take the ball off them in the box, probably should have cleared it, but they're clearly under instruction to play the ball out, he rolled the first man and then should have moved it on but took another touch, which led to a heavy touch and panic and caused the problem.

I agree, a mixed half for Josh, kept things very simple early on playing a lot of safe passes then a horrendous bit of play in his own penalty box. Redeemed himself a bit for his part in the build up to Englands goal.

Hate to critisise a youngster but every time i watch him ive just never thought wow.
He certainly has the tools but he just lacks that oomph, that little bit extra for me.

The issue with Josh has never been what he offers in terms of going forward it's his complete disregard for the defensive side of the game.
He's strolling about with no interest in getting goal side, positional discipline, or picking up and it makes him a liability in a central two.
Anyone wondering why Bruce is using him as an AM only needs to watch this game.

The sad thing is he is physically strong/quick enough to do the dirty work but the will doesn't appear to be there.

England U21 performance is just a load of nonsense. Random aimless play with the ball that lurches between 0 and 100mph and it just looks like 11 individuals rather than any cohesive unit. Off the ball especially it's horrific. No compactness, massive gaps between the lines, and really open.

Onomah has been Onomah. When he sees the ball he is composed and in all probability makes the smartest choices in the team - his choice of pass, weight of pass etc. He doesn't see enough of it though (partly the fault of the team, partly down to him) and off the ball he has plenty of moments where you just shake your head about how reactive he is rather than proactive and anticipating play.

Nice burst from him on cue...

It’s odd - if he learnt the tactical/defensive side of the game he could be a top class player, but he doesn’t seem to have the appetite

Did the referee just completely fabricate that Onomah led with his elbow and card him, when it was abundantly clear that both players attempted to head the ball in a fair 50/50 challenge.

He was still a class above Davies who was pretty ineffectual and just as defensively culpable so I'm baffled as to why Boothroyd didn't play replace Davies with a DM to fill the void in front of the defence.
Reminds me of Pogba where the team needs to be arranged around him which may be fine at England u21 level but Poch won't accept it in our first team.
And, as with Pogba, all he's got to do is work harder and he'd be the real deal.

I don't really disagree, I think we can sum it up as he needs to improve the defensive side of his game, at least the work rate aspect of it, as when someone gets near him he has the decent knack of taking a ball off someone, however surely the best way to learn is to play.

He won't ever learn it on the wing, as the wing requires a different defensive game as someone in the centre, but the problem is when he is on the wing, he can't even show his positives. I'm not expecting any academy player to come in and be the complete players, so surely you make adjustments in team structure to counteract people' weaknesses. Winks is often played alongside Dier or Wanyama, why would you not do the same for Onomah? He has been the no.1 CM for his age group that has won 2 trophies, the most of any age group, so clearly is isn't a complete liability.

Why not give him the chance in an FA Cup match or a CC match alongside a DM, where he can learn on the go, that is what I don't understand. No matter how poor he is he will not make constant mistakes and cause us to lose. Bentaleb, Dier, Walker have all made hospital passes in the past, Walker has had many lapses in concentration, Aurier has been completely rash, Rose and Sissoko (at Newcaslte anyway) have all had the same accusation made about being lazy but all were persisted with and worked with.

If a manager is calling him special at the age of 17 he must have seen loads of quality so why don't you at least help put that person in teams and support him. I'm not talking Premier League games, but early cup games, heck even play him in his 2nd position as a CAM in Cup games, where he can work on tracking back, and his errors shown to him after the game to show exactly what he didn't do. He has played in CM/CAM once and once only for us, when he was 18 against Monaco when they had Moutinho and Bakayoko in CM and we won 4-1 and has never played there again.

Yup at first I thought he will progress. But it’s clear his performances have a clear pattern. As you say that oomph, looks like he has all the tools but just never really takes a game by scruff of neck. Must be hugely frustrating as his manager.

Our u14s are going to the Mediterranean International Cup (MIC). Sadly it doesn't appear there will be any streams, but will look out for highlights.

http://www.micfootball.com/en/grupos/

C2 Class Group C

Also found this looking for another tournament it is our u15 squad for this season.

L-R
Back Row: Romaine Mundle, Tarrelle Whittaker, Nile John, Eddie Alberti-Carrington
Middle Row: Zanda Siziba, Sashon Aird-Munn, Alex Monroe, Dermi Lusala, Max Robson, Not Sure, Michael Craig, Matthew Craig
Front Row: Lo'Tutula, Not Sure, Marcus Muir, Tobi Oluwayemi

@Spurzinho if you can, please fill in the 2 blanks. I have various names from that age group missing but don't know who these two are.

This also answer the question about Monroe, and whether he will be with us next season.Appears he is an u15. Looks like a lot of that age group, are late 02 borns and so feature a lot with the u16s. Also I think a lot of the 04s (u14s) play up with a lot of these players as there are so few born in 2003.

As I was checking the Serbia game to see of Veljkovic got on (he didn't) I found out that William Troost-Ekong our former academy player is the CB for Nigeria, he was the age group below Kane and Pritchard. I have a feeling someone has already mentioned this before though
