do you think he'll get the chance to? at this point i think we're probably more likely to see shilow tracey in pre-season with the first team than we are marcus. i know people will say that confining him to the u23s would be no less than he deserves and i'm not here to debate that but if we do then it's just going to compound the problem. i would hope that poch will tell him it's a clean slate and that as long as he gets his head down and works hard(and turns up on time) then he'll be involved with the first team(what's left of it anyway) in the US, give him something to focus on and to aim for.

Not going to happen. Poch is not the type. Some of our players have had bad loans in the past but they always conducted themselves in a professional manner. As underwhelming as Kane may have been at, say, Leicester, he was never anything but a model professional despite not playing anywhere near as much as he would have liked. The same could be said of Mason. Bad behaviour reflects very badly on the club and it would be very unlike us to just let it slide.

Poch will take a very dim view of Marcus' behaviour. I'd imagine that there will be some sort of "chat" where Marcus will be told exactly the predicament that he's in and if we must we'll bin him.

I can't actually remember the last youth player who was sent packing from their loan for off the field problems. The closest I can remember was Yuri Berchiche who run into some trouble at Cheltenham but I always cut him some slack in that case because Martin Allen was in charge and was treating the loanees and youth players disgracefully.

Also I cannot see Tracey being with us once the season ends, he's just far, far too short of the fundamentals that you need to play for this club.

I think @Spurzinho has summed it up, really. A clean slate scenario seems a long way away currently, but sometimes Poch surprises you - i.e. Danny Rose - so who knows.

Not to disagree with you per se but Rose's outburst was quite out of character, as wrong as he was to say what he did he also had mitigating circumstances - i.e - the wage issue and his frustration at being on the sidelines for so long with injury, he also had some credit in the bank plus he apologised profusely to both the squad and the staff. He probably still has a few bridges to mend with the fans. Marcus, sadly, has little to no credit in the bank, his behaviour isn't out of character, the only mitigating factor is his age but I'm not sure that's a defence that will cut much mustard with Poch and Marcus doesn't seem the sort to prostrate himself and beg forgiveness.

I think Marcus needs a mentor. Someone to be close to him at the club, talk to him, make him understand how hard he needs to work to fulfill his potential (and find out if HE really wants to do it). Ryan Mason is back at the club, and I think would be the perfect person to take on the challenge.
But as I said earlier, and it hasn't been mentioned by anybody, does Marcus really want to do it. Does he want to be a professional at the highest level? He needs to answer this question to himself before he can move on.

If Marcus can't motivate himself to act like a professional footballer, I doubt someone else will be able to...

He'll be 20 in December - we're not talking about a 17/18 kid anymore, we all need to stop making excuses for him. Only one person that can turn this all around and that's himself.

Sure, he's fairly young. But he's still an adult that needs to take responsibility for himself.

Not doubting that. But in all professional sport athletes have mentors and or sports psychologists. I think Ryan, after all he has been through and had taken away from him, for no fault of his own would be excellent. I agree Marcus needs to take ownership, but with his talent he needs to given a last chance. Listen, learn and act, or go. We have a potential world beater. If you add up the pro's and con's its worth giving that one LAST chance.

From the very little I know of Pochettino, and how he acts and thinks, it will be up to Edwards to show him he deserves to be in or around the first team squad. Unless he performs in training, and that includes being polite enough to turn up on time, he has no chance of progressing at Spurs.

I'm not sure if I believe this myself but is it possible that poch is actually not disappointed by what happened at Norwich.

I'm sure they hoped marus would arrive, work hard and do well. but the result of his attitude staying the same and him realising that if he doesnt work hard he can't even get in the Norwich team might that actually be better for the long term.

Maybe, just maybe it is all part of the plan...

I've always assumed the Norwich loan was a ploy to show him that anywhere he goes he's going to have to earn it, and isn't just going to be handed chances on a plate. But I'm not sure anyone would have envisaged it going as badly as this.

Of course he does, but we just have to remember that the vast majority of 19 year-olds don't truly understand the world, or themselves. They are trying to emerge out of adolescence, and don't have it all worked out. Those that do are the unique ones.

Going from what Poch said in his book, in all probability, if Edwards wasn't such a special talent McDermott would have let him go years ago, because he values the person as much as the player, but they've obviously really tried to get him on board and develop him. It might not work, and he may drift down the leagues, as so many hugely talented lads have before him.

The club can only give him the tools to succeed, in the end the desire has to come from within. He may not have it, very few do.

Isn't it Breezer who normally has good info on Edwards - be interested to hear his take as seems close to their camp?

Do they feel that Marcus has blown his chances, and can they offer some explanation as to why it appears that he has totally taken the p..s when given chance to impress.

Check out the Marcus thread. @Breezer has posted in there.

I can't see Poch having any interest in him whatsoever. I for one hope we release him in the Summer.

Unfortunately I agree. Tough love in this case probably means we release him. It may save his career. Bill Nick did it with Graeme Souness ( sold him for a pittance) and looked what happened to him!
