i think he should at least see where pre-season takes him first, unless poch has already told him he won't be involved. if his norwich stint is anything to go by then it's difficult to see it working out for him somewhere else, no club of a decent standing is going to pander to a kid who can't even turn up on time so unless he fixes up he'll have the same problem wherever he goes. i'm conflicted on this as he's still the most talented player i've seen come through our academy by a considerable margin so i'm desperate to see him make it here but at the same time i don't want to see him just drift aimlessly in the u23s for the foreseeable either, even if a lot of that would be down to his own doing.

With the world cup this summer, first team players participating will likely miss the start of pre season as they'll be on holiday.

Hopefully the kid will be given a chance then and takes it.

Marcus started to walk and believe his own hype. Does not seem at this point grasp the facts he has to develop the engine to last a whole match, eat right, live right, train right etc. I have defended him up until now. Poch really was very excited about him, and fast tracked him at 17, though he knew the issues. But wanted to show him and his family how much he believed in him.

Before he was sent out on loan the management had a very long and frank talk with him. Hoping reality would hit him, and he would get his head down etc. Turning up for training very late. Not lasting the fitness work, as everything is monitored etc. Serious and concerning lack of awareness is just a few snippets. Really sorry, can’t keep quiet and defend him anymore. The contract and perks Norwich gave him is ridiculous. And he still cocked it up.

Thanks for the update. I fear he will be another Ravel Morrison if he doesn't change his attitude.

Man I wish I'd had his opportunities when I was a kid!

All the talent but as so many pros have said over the years, that's only a small part of the battle.

Still plenty of time for it to click but it would be a shame if that doesn't happen at Spurs.

Be handy if we could set him up with a two year loan to Germany or something, although I sort of get the impression he'd be sent home after a few months.

From my experience, you can teach people new skills but attitude is something that is so tough to train into people. If it’s not good then it can only come from them - you can give as many pep talks as you’d like.

Correct. I look at someone like Harry Winks, and from everything I’ve seen of him in interviews and online, if he wasn’t a footballer, and just walked in to a job interview for a position I had, I’d be very likely to hire him. Whatever walk of life you’re in, you want enthusiastic, passionate people around you. I’d imagine in football it’s even more important.

According to Football London club from the Premier League, Championship, Germany and The Netherlands are interested in Marcus Edwards. Tottenham are reluctant to let the teenager go, having signed him up to a new deal until 2020 last summer, but are expected to allow him move on if they are offered a suitable deal, potentially including a buy-back option and sell-on clause.

Ajax have previously shown interest in him and with us wanting De Ligt, Edwards could potentially be a part of the deal

I'd rather we just kept loaning him out until he grows up.

I could just see him being a couple of years away from maturing and then we might regret it then.

So would I.

But Marcus only has a year left on his contract, and if he's refusing to extend it (unlike say CCV & KWP), then we know Levy will seek to get maximum value.

Given the suggestions that the Bennetts sale to Borussia included a buyback clause, then I suspect Levy will try to do something similar with Marcus.

However, if the links with Ajax are correct, and we're also trying to sign Kluivert , I can't see Ajax agreeing to any buyback clause.

I note that Kluivert (May 99) is younger than Edwards (Dec 98) if wiki has correct DoBs, and yet Kluivert has already played 52 times in the Dutch top flight.

Maybe kluivert deserves to?

i don't think he's disputed that, more just highlighting the difference in first team experience given their similar age and standing.

by the way @yanno, edwards has two years left on his deal rather than just the one as cited in the guardian article so we do still have options, though by the sounds of it he just wants a fresh start elsewhere.

@Blake Griffin - thanks for clarifying the Edwards contract situation.

You're correct that I was primarily drawing attention to the fact that Kluivert is 6 months or so younger than Edwards, but has already played over 50 times for one of Europe's top clubs.

As for whether that's deserved, it's hard to be know for sure as we don't see the players every day in training. But first team appearances at Ajax have to be earned. If Kluivert wasn't contributing to the team, he wouldn't have played that much. And there's no doubt that Edwards' loan spell at Norwich was a disaster.

CCV and Onomah both had frustrations in their loan spells, with three different clubs, last season but still played a fair amount of competitive football. I'm sure they'll return to pre-season training with Poch as stronger, better, players, ready to compete for a squad place. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Marcus will be in that position.
