I'm interested in seeing how Poch jr and Tainio jr look having turned 16 and joined the squads this year (also hadn't realised Poch has another kid at the club as a sports scientist - hopefully both establish themselves and it keeps Poch happy with his family and club as one!)

I'm sure @Breezer could elaborate if this is BS or not, but this is interesting if true...

Ajax purposely went out to try and buy Marcus Edwards to make a point that English players are good enough.

They wanted to buy and bring Edwards through, then sell him on at high price. To make English clubs think again

David Powderly‏@David_Powderly 1h1 hour ago
The whole point... So English clubs stopped purchasing their youngsters at 15-18. Many other clubs highlighted by BVB are doing the same
Wouldn't that just further reinforce the view that the Eredivisie is the perfect 'breeding ground' for young talent and justifys Chelsea system of loaning players to Vitesse.

neither have made an u18 squad so far this season, though i'm sure they'll get their chance at some point.

skipp starts for england u18s against south africa.

edwards was a sub for the u20s(they pretty much rotated the entire lineup). not sure if he got on but they drew 0-0.

If this was even true it will only make world football stronger. I can partially see the logic. Clubs must be so frustrated losing their best players to England only for them to not come through, and it is so stupid when we are producing better players and not brining them through ourselves.

Would be ironic if Europe started brining English players through more than England did especially if they ended up being World Class which I expect a lot of them could be.

Edwards is a great example and again lets see what happens with him.

It's not just Edwards skill on the ball I like, it's his ability to see a pass and play it where someone can run on to it, rather than playing it to their feet, which is so frustrating and stops play flowing, you still see it loads in first team football.

Another thing I've always liked about Edwards but not seen many players do this, is chip passes. When I say that, I mean he lifts the ball just over the foot of the opposition to slip balls through. I always wonder why more players don't use it and passes just get intercepted but I've seen Edwards do it a few times.

My god, kirby looks unreal from that footage. Can't believe we lost him.

Top player and he's not even a winger.

u18s lost 2-1. Was a very strong team, but very disjointed as I doubt they would have ever played together. Hopefully Skipp impressed enough to keep his place, but realistically with O'Riley back I expect he'll just take Denny's place from the Euros.

It will be interesting to see how Sancho gets on at Dortmund. There a few ITKs who seem to think that we are "doing a Fryers" and he will come to us in January, but I'm not convinced a team like Dortmund would do that for us, especially as he was given the number 7 shirt, they just sign a lot of good young players.

Saying that though, they didn't register him for the CL, choosing to register Isak instead.

Am I the only one that thinks this guy is by far the most likely to be "The next Harry Kane" for us? He's got a bit of everything. He's a step ahead of his opponent both in body and in mind. I like Marcus Edwards, but if I had to choose one or the other, it's this guy for me all day long

The issue is its easy to expect someone at 17 to be the next whoever because their progression at this age is much more structured and following a plan, once they get to 18 our plan for our youth players is poor imo

You say the next Harry Kane, as if he was destined for the top and followed a well thought out plan and steadily progressed to the first team but that simply isnt true. People kept on saying at the time he isnt good enough and if AVB feels he isnt ready, its because he sees him in training and is a better judge of character.

We got lucky with Kane that we had a manager that believed him and dropped a £26m striker for Kane in the final 6 games to the dismay of our chairman. Had Kane not had that run of games he probably be out on loan the season after and not taken the premier league by storm. We tried to get origi but lost out to Liverpool that window.

You forward to now and someone like Onomah is at the same stage of his career if not further than Kane was at that age but he has been written off, same goes for Rose(who faced a tough harsh battle to be our no.1 LB)

This season, will Poch drop Sissoko and Nkoudou to give Edwards a chance. Will he drop Trippier to give KWP(who risks wasting 6 months of his career and possibly stagnating). Who knows but from levy's point of view, he rather the squad players play as he we get more of his money back in players like Nkoudou and Sissoko, tbf at least this season we stopped signing that raw player but Foyth signing irks me since that is a position the academy is well stocked, whilst we are struggling to produce a winger and the first team doesnt have much quality there

He's got that strength and power that we know Poch likes down the spine of his teams. Especially for his age.

Little bit of Dembele about him in the video too.

All @Flobadob was doing was saying how he thinks TOB could be the next prospect to break through, but hey, any chance to jump back on your hobbyhorse hey?

Its no surprise tomorrow never comes, when we move to our new next best thing all the time

The point is these players look good at that age like Onomah, Kane, CCV and etc. did

How we use them when they are too good for the U23's is what determines their career

Nobody is claiming to know the future. All I'm saying is going by my eye test on our youngsters, in my opinion this guy has all the tools needed to be a top level player. Like I said, he's not just ahead of his opponents in body like some are at that age, you can see he's clearly thinking a step ahead of them too with how quickly he makes the right decision in tight situations. He's got star quality written all over him

Poch seems to absolutely love him, but I wasn't overly impressed when I saw him last year (at either youth level) and was left a bit disappointed as I'd expected big things. Hoping to see him play some football soon so I can 'check' on his progress, as he has undoubtedly fantastic ability.

I can't be bothered to go round and round it all again. We all want the best for our promising youngsters,

Onomah, CCV, KWP, Winks, Edwards could all still make it. Stop making out like the club have no idea what they're doing.

People need to relax a tad when it comes to the intergration of our youth into the senoir side. All of these lads are still very young and if they were in a North American sports, they'd all still be at an amatuer level or playing at a low professional level. And I know that footie careers are shorter and start younger then the other sports, but the point remains that it takes time for young athletes to mature both physically and mentally so that they can compete at a top level. Poch has shown that he is willing to be patient and so must the fans.
