What's the general feeling here about the upcoming Ronda Rousey v Holly Holm rematch?

I wonder if RR has been taking boxing lessons since she got beaten up in the first one...!

    ;)

If Ronda still has the same coach then she's in trouble

Very impressed by Darren Till's demolition of Cowboy Cerrone. Equally impressed by Cerrone's classy reaction post fight.

Till looks a real prospect in a division that needs a champion who actually want to fight. He shouldn't rush to fight for the belt yet though. Woodley is a disgrace but still a legit champion who looks capable of snoozefesting his way past most challengers.

Till looked good. A Till - Perry fight is mouthwatering.

    I will leave this here......

The Demian Maia fight was the way it was due to Woodley knowing if it went to the floor Maia would of tangled him up and put him to sleep. So the only way to win was to keep it on the feet.
Maia caught a big punch early and couldnt see out of one eye so his takedowns were not as effective, meaning Woodley had an easier time to keep it on the feet.

The first fight vs Thomson was ok but the second was dreadful. Personally I just don't like Woodley's approach to MMA. I don't have a problem with limited fighters who choose a boring route to victory because it's their only chance but Woodley clearly has talent and still more often than not finds a way to bore the shit out of me. None of the other current UFC champions do that.

We each of us make our own choices about who we like, love and hate and that's cool, but I'm still not clear as to why you're calling him 'a disgrace'.

Daniel Cormiere bores the living crud out of me too, but I would never call him 'a disgrace'. I would reserve comments like that for arseholes like Maradona for obvious reasons.

Disgrace - loss of reputation or respect as the result of a dishonourable action.

What we are arguing about here seems to be our personal interpretation of the word 'disgrace' which you obviously consider a stronger epithet than I do in the context that I used it.

Funnily enough I don't find Cormier boring (or disgraceful). He may not have a style that everybody appreciates but he doesn't deliberately fight within himself and cheat the fans of action in the way Woodley often does. To make an analogy I don't get angry when I see Pulis go to a big club and park the bus. It's what he does. The entertainment is seeing how the good teams break down his system. However when I see Mourinho do it with a squad that is worth twenty times what Pulis's is I think he is cheating the fans and would call it a disgrace.

Not sure what is dishonourable about wrestling tbh. It may not be to everyones satisfaction but it still takes a hell of a lot of skill and determination to do it. How anyone can call a fighter a disgrace just because they don't fight the way they want is beyond me. A disgrace is a fighter who takes drugs not a fighter who fights safe.

Looking forward to UFC 217 this weekend, Bisping vs. GSP & Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw.

I think Bisping will win this KO second round, GSP has been out of the Octagon far too long, he's likely to have 'ring rust' and for me he looks smaller than he used to.

Garbrandt is going to walk through Dillashaw.

Pleased with the results, all those champions needed to be humbled, even though I do think TJ is a snake.

How fantastic was UFC 217? :woot:

Love that two of my favourite fighters - Thug Rose and TJ - beat two of my most disliked.

Awesome fight between GSP and Bisping as well (y). GSP needs to move down to welterweight and fight Woodley though because he's got no chance against Whittaker. Bisping was a good match up for him but Whittaker hits much harder, has better defence and a better chin than Bisping and is near impossible to take down.

I thought GSP looked tired midway through round 2. It just shows no amount of training can condition you the same as an actual fight. It looked like momentum was swinging towards Bisping. Even when GSP got a good takedown it was Bisping landing the best shots. But then GSP just throws that left hook over the cross of Bipsing and was all over him. Fair play to GSP for fighting through the pain and showing great technique with his striking and then the choke to finish.

I kind of understand the thought of him moving back down but it would be silly to do so straight away. Otherwise what is point of winning the belt? If he leaves the division already it throws the title back in the air. I personally think he will be better conditioned for the next fight as he gets used to the weight. I still fancy him to beat Whittaker because he'll evade most of his strikes. I think he would struggle against Romero though.

The TJ vs Cody fight could have gone either way. Once they got into the pocket the technique kind of went out of the window and they just threw caution to the wind. Someone was getting knocked out, it was nearly TJ at the end of round 1 but lucky for him it happened so close to the bell. It was actually nice to see them show respect after the fight. I don't think there's anything wrong with TJ leaving Alpha Male, fighters change camps all the time. He should've sat down with Faber and thanked him for helping him and showed them more respect though. I wonder if DJ will accept a fight with him next.

Rose absolutely earned the title. She's such a grounded person with a great attitude. For all the trash talk from Joanna I was pleased to see her knocked out. She was getting way too big headed as a champion. She needed to be humbled.

Nah disagree on TJ. I don't think TJ ever wanted to leave Alpha Male. He wanted to stay and continue to work with Ludwig at the same time. Faber, and even more so Garbrandt, have always seemed pretty dense and jock-esque to me. Fabers disliking of Ludwig and his immature stance stemming from that, led to Dillishaw effectively being forced into picking a side and having to leave. You are right about Gardbrandt though - He seems to have rocks in his head instead of brains and simply followed Faber. He seems like a stupid hot head and a bit of a muppet and it was excellent to see him get knocked on his ass.

Cruz, and now Dillishaw, have always been the more ambitious, intelligent and interesting fighters to me at least. Expected Dillishaw to win.

Congrats to GSP but don't think he will hold the MW belt for any length of time. Bisping is a fighter that I respect so much, and has the best cardio, heart and work rate going but he kind of deservedly lucked into the title with the one shot in a million/right place right time moment and isn't the best fighter in that division. The immediate fight is Whittaker but the idea of Rockhold/GSP is interesting

I think TJ has got a bad press that he didn't deserve and Garbrandt is a deeply unpleasant character. That said there is no denying his talent and he will be a champion again someday. I'd like to see Cody fight John Lineker next and TJ have a rematch with Cruz (I was one of those who thought he won the 1st fight) before a big money match against Mighty Mouse.

I think GSP is too smart to hang around the middleweight division. I respect Bisping but he really isn't the best fighter in that division and he was a great match up for GSP. That said if the fight had gone another round I think GSP would have gassed. I look at the rankings and i'm struggling to see a fight that GSP would be keen to take. Whittaker hits too hard and is near impossible to take down. Rockhold, Romero, Jacare, Weidman, Costa and Brunson are all just too big. Anderson Silva would be an interesting fight but he's done nothing recently to deserve a title shot. GSP's future is back down at welterweight IMHO.

Thug Rose will probably face Joanna again although Jessica Andrade might be an even more challenging match up for her.

It's great to see all the divisions (except flyweight unless TJ drops down ) competitive again (y).

I can understand where Alpha Male are coming from though. You're either with them or with Ludwig. It's a bit of a spit in the face of the kickboxing coaching at Alpha Male if you're going off somewhere else to work on that. Having said that Alpha Male really need to get over it.

For me, three great shocks in 217 with the belts changing hands. Like everyone else, I didn't see GSP coming back after four years, going up a weight and beating Bisping for the belt. Whatever you say about him, that's an extraordinary feat.

TJ smashing Cody was a sheer delight for me. It's about time he was made to just shut the f**k up and it was good to see them shaking hands after the fight but I think that was far more TJ's idea than Cody's.

And as for Joanna losing to Namajunas, well if anyone had a bet on that I take my hat off to you. Shades of Ronda! It will be very interesting to see where Joanna goes from here. Hopefully a re-match.

Also a bit of a shock to see Mickey Gall get beat by the boy Brown who really impressed me. I never heard of him before and I look forward to seeing him fight again.
