Don't ever think about west ham, I never even realised they "hated" us until I started posting here.

I hate Arsenal because of who they are and how they behave, not because they're more successful than us. They'll still be arses if they played in the conference

I hate Arsenal because of 1913, 1919, and their complicity with the anti-semitic undertones that went with it.

If thats your reason for hating Arsenal its probably time to let it go, it would be like hating the Germans still for the holocaust.

I actually find it hard to justify my hatred of Arsenal.

It seems more and more they are becoming the 'neutral' fans second team, because of the way they play football and the fact the compete with the biggest teams without spending masses of money (focus on bringing through youth etc.)

I do still have my reasons, mostly being Wenger and his general attitude (not seeing things, constant bitching etc) but when trying to convey this to more pro Arsenal people I will hear responces such as 'all successful managers act like that' or 'He is no worse than Fergie'.

The gesture of the replayed cup tie against Sheff Utd also goes along way towards enhancing their reputation.

I do however think they get a much better press than they deserve at times, their youth policy is built by stealing youngsters from the acadmies of others by in large (although of course this is something all clubs do, they just have either a better eye for talent or are better at developing that talent)

I use the lack of English players in their set up, but now this is becoming a problem through out the league not just Arsenal and in truth it's not Wenger (as a Frenchman) nor Arsenal as a club who have the responcibilty to the development of English players (there needs to be legislation that guarentees the need for English players in English teams I think, plus something has to be done at grass roots level to improve English youth systems)

So why do I still hate Arsenal? well, they are our traditional rivals yes (although thats not something that actually concerns me), Jealously? I wouldnt say that is my reason, while I would like us to have achieved what they have in the last decade or so I do not hate them because of this.

Their fans annoy me, very arrogant and often brash/chavish....but then I often hear Spurs fans on radio phone in's or see some in the pub before and after games (not to mention in the stadium) that I either find annoying myself or could easily see why opposition fans would. (I'm saying all clubs have some fans who are wa**ers)

The Campbell incident sticks in the craw, their winning the league on our ground didn't bother me.....but the way they celebrated on our pitch afterwards certainly does when I look back at it.

There was a time when I actually disliked Man U and Chelsea more than Arsenal (most because growing up in West London my school was full of arrogant Man U and Chelsea fans more than Gooners) I think the change in my mindset to disliking Arsenal most can be put down to the personalities of the players and staff they have had in the last few years.

Wenger is someone with the type of face and attitude that simple annoys me, makes me feel to punch him. The same can be said of Henry, Viera, Wiltord, Pieres, Walcott, Adeboyor, and endless over gooners over the past 15 years (not least Campbell).

I am actually glad that we are back to being a genuine rival in their eyes now though, because I remember almost every gooner I spoke to telling me it was funny that they no longer saw Spurs as their biggest rivals anymore and games against Man U were now the big ones (back when Keown was ruffing up RVN and they were having many a heated battle)

So I thank Jol for atleast bringing us back to the level where we register enough to be hated once more.

As for West Ham, I think much of this resentment between fans is born in areas like Essex where large concentrations of both clubs supporters live around one another. Plus West Ham will have similar (ish) feelings towards the way we have taken many of their best players in recent years to that we felt regarding Campbell.

I have disliked West Ham because of the way I hear their fans talking about our club and I get extra satisfaction from seeing us beat them now (ever since they spoiled our chances of getting fourth place on that fateful day)

One thing I will say is I am not a fan of overly heated footballing rivalries, I like fan to fan banter and whatnot but I am against this venomious rageful hate I see some fans exhibit at other clubs and their fans (C word screaming and genuine passionate hatred based purely on ones football team affinity.) and I have seen this from fans of West Ham, Arsenal and Chelsea towards us on a regular basis...so I will say those types of fan also inspire me to dislike their respective clubs.

I always used to think of West Ham as my second club as I grew up and went to school in that area, all my mates support them, they also have a tradition of playing football the right way and they were never any real threat to Spurs. Since lasagnagate and overhearing people on the tube the next morning take great satisfaction from scuppering our CL qualification my estimation of them has gone way down.

I think alot of comes down to their fans wanting to be the hardest as both teams are from working class areas. I bet the fact that Chas & Dave are Spurs fans really kills them!
