Because for the amount we'll be paying for Paulinho he'll be a starter along side dembele and sandro, so Sig and holtby will get put on the bench and I don't think they'll stick around too long if that's the case. Both are 22,23 and so need game time. I'm fully aware you also need a strong bench but they will wanna play. Just my opinion though.
Honestly how often does ANY team just survive the whole season on the same starting 11??? Its clear that hudd and Livermore will be offered to go and possibly Parker!!

Also injuries do occur during the season !!

Paulinho will give us options. Last season AVB had to start Dembele when he was fit as we didn't have any other strong box to box players. Paulinho will mean more opportunity for rotation without weakening the starting 11.

Are there any mods about? I'd quite like a 24 hour ban, so I can get on with some work. My willpower is not strong enough to keep me away, and the jobs I have to do are rather pressing... :(

Jonathon Norcroft from one of the papers linking us with McCarthy of Wigan today. Says we're front runners - happy to bid 15m., but Wigan want 20m. Also says Fulham had 8m. offer turned down and that Mancini would have gone for him if he had stayed on at City

Personally - I think he's very good and would be perfect for us. I also think we could get him for 10m. 15m. sounds far too much to me.

Mourinho got it spot on a few years back when he said if you want a successful team you need to have two players for every position. Signing Paulinho will bring us closer to that.

Actually I think he could've utilised Holtby a lot more in that position, but didn't seem to fancy him.

Holtby was never at the races imo. Rather than AVB not fancying him, it just looked like he was out of kilter.

I think it was more the case of playing it safe with Holtby. Joining mid-season meant it would have been a lot more hectic/unpredictable in trying to bed him into CM I imagine. PLus, after his initial buzz of promise he lost confidence quite quickly and that only came back towards the end of the season.

The final figure is always misleading anyway. We all know no football club cuts a straight cheque for 20m quid. Part of the reason negotiations go on so long is because it would end up being something like:

8m up front
2m more in 12 months
2m more in 24 months
2m more if we qualify for CL and McCarthy plays 20+ games next season
Same for the season after that
2m when he plays 100 games for Spurs
1m when he plays 200 games for Spurs
1m when he scores 10 goals for the club

That is much more easy to swallow.

Would be nice if he was having meetings with agents or chairmen though.

Also may include signing on fee/agents fee or his wages. Or just a made up figure.
