Pleased we appear to be sorting the defence out. If we can get a partner for Verts and Schneiderlin I would be incredibly confident we wouldn't let many in.

We have a decent amount of attackers who just need to find some form, confident poch can bring the best out in them.

Feels nice to be addressing our issues for once.

...I'm also hoping Poch & co can help Lennon get back to his previous form, or even teach Townsend the art of being a LWF ... Could save us millions!... Then hopefully after MS maybe even a shiny new striker and ship out any excess and we might just have something. imagine that, a system with the players to play it!

So that's the Goat, Grey Fox and JJ all agreeing that Mussachio is a target and is now close. Plus the twatter talk, I'm saying Stoof stamp Monday!?!

jesus if we sign Mussachio, MS and a lwf i might have to double check i'm supporting the right club, we've had successful transfer windows before but never attempted to balance the squad so impressively imo.

Mussachio would be the first signing of this window that I believe would help us close the gap talent wise on the top 4 from last season. I know many here won't agree, but neither Dier or Davies are ready to step in and really make a major difference in a push for a top 4 place. Mussachio was excellent for Villareal last year. The only pity if we signed him was also not signing Rojo to play left back. He has far more pace than Davies, and his left footed crossing is much better than Davies', too.

I still think we desperately need a LWF, even more so than Schneiderlin. I have faith in the ability of Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, and Capoue. Lennon and Townsend, however, were two of the least productive wingers in all of European top flight football last season. 2 goals between them in 37 starts is too large of a sample size to be dismissed due to poor management or a lack of a system. There are others I'd prefer over Jay Rodriguez, but he'd be better than no one, in my opinion. I don't think we can afford to wait until January though. We've tried that tactic multiple times in the past and weren't able to sign anyone to help us in the winter window, and ended up finishing outside of Champions League places by very small margins. Personally, I'd seriously consider striking a deal with QPR for a Remy loan, and then look to bring Rodriguez in on a cut price deal with his contract running out.

As encouraging as this Musacchio chat is I think there is a real risk that United will be in for him as well.
Van Gaal likes 3 at the back and they've got Jones, Smalling, Evans and an injured Carrick as far as I can tell. Surely it's one area they'll chuck money at.
Hope I'm wrong though

I'm in shock we're actually addressing our problems. Hopefully Musacchio will be in by West Ham, then it's 2 more signings needed max.

The Goat has just posted

Who: The Goat
When: 2nd August
Where: SC

The Goat heard last night that our interest in Musacchio is real and that barring anything unforseen, a deal is 'close'.

If this deal does go through then most likely Kaboul will be off. Only a year left on his contract and has hardly played in the last 2 seasons.

Reality check time.

Llrois = World class
Walker = Potentially very good, needs game time following long term injury
Verts = Needs to return to form, hopefully return to favoured position will help
Mas = New to league, Hopefully will settle quickly (not much pre season left)
Davies = Proven Prem record, needs to gel

Dier, Needs to settle
Rose, Needs to improve
Dawson, Needs new legs (bless him)
Kaboom, Needs to get fit
Naugton, OKay understudy.... that is all
Vlad, Needs a chance
YOungsters, need a chance and to prove themselves.

Whilst that has the look of a solid defence, especially when you consider the quality of screening midfielders we have they will need time to gel together and to a new manager with his own tactics.

I hope we hit the ground running (and pray West Ham don't embarress us again) but we as fans need to understand that this might not happen immediately. We still need a lot of things to go right.

More encouraging ITK.

Havn't seen this guy play at all really but sounds like he's a very promising, youngish CB.

Confirmation on a bid for Musacchio would be good. As would a Soldado goal from openplay later. An appearance from Dier and our world cup players too perhaps.
confirmed !

He was the target i mentioned 3 weeks ago that you would never get! You all did try though! Only A & C knew, sneaky old goat he is...

Maybe if we had a manager who used to be a defender it would help...

Based on ITKs received & signings we have made , how about this XI ?

Lloris
Walker, Musacchio, Vertonghen, Davies
Schneiderlin, Capoue
Eriksen, Lamela, Konoplyanka
Adebayor

Capoue's position is probably debatable; Atleast going by preseason he deserves teh spot. I would really like Paulinho to step up & show his form of Corinthians or Confeds. We have good options for that position in Holtby, Dembele, Bentaleb , Mason, etc...

I have picked Ade in favour of Soldado simply because of last season form and also I believe Ade is better suited for high press game than Soldado; But both of them would be perfect for this line up IMO

With Schneiderlin in, sadly Sandro goes, going by ITK;

I seriously believe such a XI could really put us on the map for a top4 or even top3 finish. Optimistic may be considering how others have improved around us.

But the fact is - we would have improved our XI from last season. With no Suarez, I would even put this XI on paper ahead of Pool squad;
