But if he was sold why would they bother?
If not complete yet, why not?
It would undermine the coach to pull him from the scheduled training - if they do not sell him, they will be keeping him - they would not want to mess up their pre-season unnecessarily.

That was AJW's point - it isnt complete like some ITK suggests!

I disagree with this. I think Liverpool are in a different stage of their development, transfer-wise.

To my mind they've been spending with one eye on Suarez going, Aspas looks a replacement to me & Sturridge has been solid for them. So their forward line isn't necessarily where their problems lie, and recouping £40-50m will give them a kitty but the days of them splashing stupid money on the flavour of the month are probably behind them. Their recent transfers have been far more of the £8-12m variety on younger players with promise. They also appear to have attempted to get business done early & I can't see a reactionary £25-30m bid for anyone off the back of a Suarez sale, it would upset the applecart too much & would be too knee-jerk. I think they learnt from their initial transfer fiascos and are unwilling to subject themselves to similar risks now. They are moneyball-styled & that's the only way they can compete.

Also, if they were in any way serious about signing Soldado, they would have registered substantial interest by now, it's no secret that we are very serious, so if they had any real intention they'd need to be toe-to-toe with us right now. I've seen nothing to suggest that's the case.
A few press links and a 'if we sell Suarez we'll get serious' theory just doesn't wash.

In summary: I don't reckon Liverpool are in for Soldado. No sirree.

I think you are underestimating the stupidity of Liverpool Football Club. And it wouldnt even be that stupid.

Lets hope we dont have to find out.

Liverpool would strengthen more in other area's with the Suarez money as apposed to out right replacing him like they did with Suarez I think the board learned a stern lesson with Carroll.

Not to derail thread any further so...

No Soldado announcement?

Levy out. :D

Feeling more and more confident that he is the right fit for us after seeing his stats through 2009-2012 his lowest haul ( in a Getafe shirt no less ) was 16 goals and the highest being 24 goals. That is immense consistency for a striker playing in quite mediocre teams to be honest. He could be the 15-20 goal a season answer we've been looking for since Berbatov left and it seems the finances are in place to make this deal happen.

Optimistic? Yes, but I have every reason to be

Totally agree
More likely go for Rooney knowing Lpool ;)

The football media/internet is 99% utter rubbish and football fans are drama queens.

Liverpool will go for a big money replacement. The logical option would be that they go for the replacement that they are rumoured to be sniffing around already. And if you are going to disregard any 'ITK' suggesting they are sniffing around, based on the assumption its 99% likely to be utter rubbish, you need to discount any ITK saying we are in too.

Nothing kneejerk about that logic.

True. It was the pictures of baldini and the valencian presidents statements that convinced me spurs were in for him, not itk.

FFS. Supposed to heading to the Bristol harbour festival in a bit. Just hope it's something more substantial than "it's all done apart from the signature...and the fee...and personal terms...and actually meeting the player."

Oi! I have a gig at the Tunnels in Bristol tonight! My Who tribute band are playing! It's warm in here, forget the festival! See me bash drums....

Sorry off topic!

Sorry but if its done be wouldn't have done fitness tests with them today. He would just have gone to the 'farewell' game. Take away all the ITK and as far as their media are concerned (who are very open) we are still trying to negotiate or may not have spoken to them at all

It was rumoured that if he trained today we would threaten to pull the plug on the deal. Maybe they are getting round that by giving him a fitness test instead.

Well a fitness test is a lot different to contact training. Less risk of injury and what not.

Calm down everybody. We are all going mental and are desperate for a confirmation, hope we'll get it soon (=tonight)
As I said before, this is not the signing that people have to worry about, this is done IMO. It's what happens after that if Ade goes that people have to worry about. Lopez, Gomis, Remy those bods don't cut it, they are not even better than Defoe, let alone Ade.
